What’s with all this not suited for the bottom six crap? I thought we were trying to roll three offence offensive lines deep

There is something they say about pre season heroes.
He deserves to start with the Canucks tho. There is no rule saying he can't send him down 3 weeks from now if needed.
I keep telling myself the same thing. I agree, it's pre season, not full tine NHL opposition ...
Tell me though do you remember his hi light reel on youtube in his Junior year at Northeastern? I was blown away. If you take a step back and forget what round he was drafted in, how he looked last year, his age... this guy could be the real deal for us. He LOVES scoring goals. He's been our best offensive player most nights.
Better than Virtanen.
Better than Goldobin.
Better then Sutter
and on and on and on.

Gaudette has to make this team. He's one of our best players. He makes us way better.

Ok fine, but when you are a fringe NHL'er who has limited amount of time to bring home an NHL pay cheque you have to look out for your own future. Sure you will have some good times but you have too look out for #1 in the process. If you lose what most people make in a year multiple times over the course of say 3 seasons is it worth it because you had some fun? I'm not saying there shouldn't be push back, I'm just saying some of these guys have to look at the bigger picture which is lost wages they may never recover.
Look out for number 1?
That is not and never should be Hockey.

Yupp, Torres would do what it took to win. Guys always knew when he was on the ice and there heads were on a swivel.
Playoff hockey is about sacrifice.... personal sacrifice. Playing hurt. Playing hard. Playing past the point of tiredness and discomfort.
When you honestly appreciate your teamates..... sacrifice is easier and more natural. Canucks need to build that team culture where players really just want to play for each other.... win for each other.
More and more over the past few years I feel like that culture has dissipated greatly in the young hotshot/Marner and Matthews era. Too many 21-year-old millionaires who are too busy being overly professional yet somewhere individualistic. They don’t go out on benders as much. They don’t go out on the road as much. The modern day hockey player spends most of his time in the hotel room playing video games. Same reason as to why fighting has disappeared from the game. It’s actually quite prophetic. Many great hockey stated that once the game is no longer internally policed it’ll become more and more dangerous with regards to serious injury. We’re seeing it now all over the place. Actually bums me out and makes me a little sick sometimes. The Boeser hit was just disgusting.

A team that sticks up for each other and enjoys taking a few beers all together as a group.... thats a club that i think can roll deep in the playoffs...
Agreed.
Pretty much St Louis in a nutshell. 2011 team had that in spades. Torres would have murdered someone next shift.

Hutty was playing for pride and had something to prove last night against the team that let him go. I'm happy for him and hope he does well...just not against us.
The question is who is our number six defenceman right now? I’ve actually really liked Chatfield’s game so far in the preseason but if it’s down to him or Biega or Sautner, I have to say Hutton would’ve probably been an upgrade on either of these guys.
Oh yeah I gapped on Stetcher. Never mind eh.

Hutton looked solid. We might regret that one.

Myers super confident with the puck.

You guys don’t know each other?
Wow. A mom joke doesn’t always go as planned. Nice one boys!

Sucks having to send Gaudette down. Looked like he belonged out there.
Finished quite a few checks.

This game is a case study on the importance of NHL caliber defensemen.

Holy crap people. To those crossing the line take it easy on the personal shots at Brock. He’s going through a $&!#storm with his dads health. &^@#ing internet is so ruthless. Show some class god damnit.

Boeser is our core winger at the moment, maybe a little between Sharp and Hossa - not really in the same group as Ladd and Byfuglien (as a winger - a defenseman boy I’m sure they regret losing him). Listen I get what your pointing out - my feeling is we have something special here, the player we saw most of his rookie year only came out just before March and then he was one of if not our best player down the stretch - when EP had fizzled out he came through for us big time. The year before our PP went from mid-twenties and finished 9th when he was added to it. The only guy I’ve seen have that much impact as a fan are Naslund - and Bure.
Next year I’d be surprised if he doesn’t take a step and score close to 40 goals and end the season with around 80 points. It’s been a while since a Canuck managed that...and it would put him in pretty special company. No he’s not Kane or Panarin good, but he’s the best we got right now. Also don’t see Podz turning out as well offensively - it’s not his game - same as any of our other current prospects/players with the exception of EP. Just for fun check out how many guys manage 30/30 on a consistent basis - not many and I see that as his bottom floor.
Thanks. You just got me really pumped for this season. Well said btw. If he hits close to those numbers then our core could live up to our hometown hype.

Has he played enough to set that trend though? Year one was a freak accident that put him out most of those games.
What’s so “Freak” about laying the body in a player and getting crumpled?

I should have worded my post better.
Wasnt trying to equate BB with Bure at all.In my mind Bure is the greatest Canuck.
When it comes to comparing young players drafted by the Canucks, during the past 50 years, goal scoring wise, how many players outside of Bure have outscored Brock in the first full two years. I expect Petey to move into that category next year...but as of right now BB is one of the best young players ( in that age group) this franchise has ever had.
You keep highlighting that point but the sad thing is that Vancouver’s history is a sad one when attempting to validate current talent based on historically gifted goal scorers. Just because Brock is in a category of a super small handful of elite Canuck goal scorers doesn’t justify him deserving a huge pay day. Instead of putting him up against past Canuck players try comparing him to past scoring compatibles league wide. Love the kid and we need to get him signed but as Stawns and others are saying his game could use a good doseage if rounding out before he deserves cashing in.
