You know what? I'm done dragging Bo through the mud here. I was a fan when he was here. He signed at a team friendly contract throughout his entire career. He then saw guys like  Petey and Hughes getting paid. He then even saw guys like Miller and Boeser getting paid and probably wondered what the heck he was doing.... Like on what planet is Boeser worth more than Bo?

Bo probably would have taken a team friendly deal if we treated others that way but it seems that we only expected Bo to be unselfish.

Safe to say, most here agree letting Bo go rather than paying him 8.5 was a good move. Glad the man got paid but not from us

Time to start a new era here with the guys that are left.

This is the beginning I am hoping of seeing guys getting shipped out that's not worth the salary getting paid.

    Here here. Well said.

You haven't answered my questions. Why did JR/Allvin accept Miller's number at 8? Why did Miller accept his valuation to be 8, if we were to assume that Miller could've gotten more during free agency.

Hell, the leverage was actually on Allvin's side because Miller still had 1 more year on his contract. Allvin decided to lock him up early. There was no "gun to the head" situation like Lou.

They determined it was good value and term for that player. Also, what doesn’t get a lot of buzz around here is the fact that Miller really wants to be here. One might argue he took a bit of a cut to stay to keep the structure of our cap in a good state. They offered Horvat Miller‘s money and he didn’t think it was enough plain and simple. Hopefully it was the right call. I personally think it was. Signing Bo’s contract would’ve just indicated that what we have is good enough. It isn’t and as I’ve been saying all along, you have to cut out a part of the core to figure out what this team is all about. Let’s move forward with some new leadership and hopefully Beauvillier works out as well. He looked really fast out of there in his first practice today.

You're ignoring the fact that the Islanders accepted Horvat's asking price of 8.5. That in itself establishes the market value. If the Islanders didn't think he was worth that, he could've traded him away.

You never answered why they didn't do that.

Lou complained about the deal, but he still accepted it. It's dishonest to even suggest that he was held at gunpoint (or the like) to accept the contract.

Let it go man. You and the other guy are both bringing up solid points but you’re just not sharing the same perspective on the nuances involving the deal. It doesn’t matter that Isles management and Bo’s agent agreed to the dollar amount. What matters is Lou signed off on the deal knowing that it is more than what he should’ve or wanted to have paid. Once he gave up the assets he did in the trade he had no choice. He still loves the player he got so it’s a moot point. Waiting till the trade deadline would’ve exploded in his face.
They got what they want, and the Canucks got what they want, which was making sure they didn’t overpay on an overpriced contract. They win the deal for their reasons, and we win it for ours.

Yeah got a good prospect in Raty and a calculated move with the 1st. They may squeak into the playoffs, but likely a first round exit making it at worse a top 20 pick or so. At best, NYI falters and we get somewhere between 13-16. Or NYI drops big time, keeps their pick this year and they look like they might be in big trouble next year with their aging roster and uncertainty if they can even re-sign Bo for next season as well without overpaying.

If we made a trade with a real contender, the pick is going to be in the low range and they might not be willing to part with one of their premium prospects to make up the difference anyway.

Yes. Agreed on all points. Islanders are absolutely the winner for the time being. Bo is a fantastic player and the most  valuable asset in the package. I just think that all things considered management did a pretty good job and if we catch a break and hit hard on that pick we could run away with it in the long run. Even Beauvillier’s  salary comes off the books end of next season making him tradeable. I also don’t think ownership and management are seeing next year as a big leap for us. I visualize the following season as the one where they are able to spend some money and get a break with a rise in the cap.

The pressure is now on in Brooklyn.

We called Bo "The Ox" before because of his ability to potentially carry a team on his back. NYI are a structured defensive team (at least they were before, not too sure how Lane Lambert has changed their team this year) and having Bo to win them possession more often will only help with that. They also lacked go scoring which Bo should help with given his production this year. I think they still need to make another addition, but Bo gets them in the right direction for this season.

Agreed. I still think management picked a good trading partner. The east is way more competitive in the wild card range than the west. The Isles could move up a spot or two, but could easily stay exactly where they are or actually drop out of the race. Trading with the Rangers, Boston, Carolina Seattle, etc. would’ve made that an impossibility. They might squeak into the playoffs, but this team is not gonna pick up six or seven spots in the conference standings. At least I don’t think so.

There is no chance of moving up this year with the Islanders pick as its top 12 protected.

I’ll take 13th overall thank you very much. Two picks in the top 13 in this monster draft is huge for this team. Islanders are in tough down the stretch. Florida, Washington, Pittsburgh, etc. These teams are not gonna lie down. Horvat will make a difference but he’s not gonna carry a new team on his back.

    the more I like this

not a home run, but definitely not a bad deal AT ALL

He also picked the best trading partner to get a 1st from. Don’t want bostons 1st when we can instead draft like 15 spots better.

I’m also starting to think that management had an eye on Abbotsford with the trade. Send the prospect down there and hopefully the team goes on a run and the eastern euros bond.
Hogs Pods Klim and Raty. Management definitely has these guys pegged as future building blocks.

Because it's unlikely and there's just as high a possibility it's 20th this year.  Or, protected this year and they turn it around and have a good year next season and the Canucks pick 20+.

The Canucks held the top chip for the tdl and, to me, PA played it from the bottom, not the top.

Much better chance of it being a high pick compared to the Rangers, Carolina Boston, or Seattle.

First round pick was always gonna be a centrepiece to the trade. The prospect and the roster player are definitely up for debate. I feel one thing that isn’t debateable is the fact that management targeted a team like the islanders where they felt they could nudge themselves as close as possible to the top 10 pick. Islanders are not trending well right now.

Yeah honestly, if that pick stays at +/- 15...that's like way, WAY better of a pick than even 25. There's damn good players there, including some D many CDC'ers are panicking about not getting.

Absolutely. Some awesome D prospects are being muscleled out of some deserving top 10 positions because of some  insane depth at Center this year. Honestly, what I wanted most from this trade was another mid first rounder. If Raty develops into a full time NHLer, this is a win. It's obviously a win for the Isles right now but this could shift over time.

Late to the party but pleasantly surprised with the return.

I was hoping for Kotka, Morrow and a 1st from CAR... maybe a Seeley/Nikishin if we retained or added/counter the risk of Kotka's term etc. This is pretty comparable and in fact, arguably better given the pick is likely mid teens, or possibly even higher if it goes to '24.

Also doesn''t come with the long term risk of Kotka's contract.

    But CDC gonna panic

Solid point on the Carolina/contender type team vs Isles/mid league standings type team as a trade partner. Beauvillier could be a chip as well.

No I wish they get top 12 pick so next year it will be un protected. Don't think the Isles are going anywhere next year anyways. Good chance they are worse.

I'm not familiar with next year's draft class. Is it projected to be deep? Risk/reward on both sides with that pick. Makes sense how they negotiated. Seems pretty neutral as an asset.
