How about the 72 Summit Series?  You're kidding yourself if you think politics weren't a factor for what made that series so good.

I wasn't alive then lol. I really just don't like politics in sports, sports used to be a unifying escape but not anymore. Politics is everywhere and there is no escape, wish everyone would just shut up and watch hockey.

I stand by my statement.  It's his choice.  It's also his choice to reap the issues his choice may cause.  At least he's not copping out with a bs excuse about religion.

    That being said.

It will be interesting to see what the league has to say now about this, or members of the specific media who defended those who did it on religious grounds.

He's the first Russian who JUST came from Russia who has made this choice so seeing if there is a double standard from those voices will be an interesting thing to see

Religion isn't really a BS excuse. Would you say the same about a Muslim? It's called tolerance not acceptance. You don't have to agree, if he said something rude or mean spirited then sure he should be criticized.

I would be completely fine if that were the case. And I would raise him or her to not dwell on life and whine and complain that they are so hard done by because others don't want to wear a rainbow shirt.

Same. I just don't really like politics in sports or people shoving their beliefs in people's faces. I don't really get telling the world about your sexual interests, nobody really cares anyway.

If we were really progressive it would just be a non issue.

  4. Pettersson really didn't do nearly enough in this game. No goals or assists.....or even a shootout goal with the game on his stick. Had far too many turnovers and looked pretty bad on the powerplay. Soo many chances to win with a 2-0 lead to start.

It is such a Canucks thing to lose a crucial game to a bottom feeder. I wouldn't be that upset if it were Minnesota or Calgary.....but Ottawa?! FFS.

Remember he was wincing during a game where it appeared he may have..pulled his groin? Something.

He's got to be feeling a bit of wear and tear for sure. Even when he's not at 100% he's still a guy who gives us every opportunity to win games.

Top 5 goalie for sure. Especially if you look at Goals saved below expected and high danger scoring chance save percentage. Luongoesque play.

Sure be hyper critical of parts of our game, or certain players, when it’s goaltending (.882) that is the biggest reason for the loss.  If Demko is .920, like we know he should be, then we win.  That’s fact.

Demko is probably not 100% right now.

He's been very heavily relied upon and has never played this many games. All the while our team has blead quite a few high danger scoring chances, Demko can't bail us out every game.

Nah. Gillis knew exactly what he was doing.

Gillis circumvented. Bettman defended the integrity of the CBA. And rightly so.

By the end of Gilis’ tenure as GM of the Canucks, no one wanted to deal with him.

His arrogance preceded any potential phone call.

And then to golf on trade deadline… he had one job on that day and it wasn’t sweating at golf.

I wouldn't call retroactively punishing teams for moves that were perfectly acceptable under the confines of the previous CBA because the league was embarrassed "defending the integrity of the CBA".

If the NHL wants teams to adhere to certain rules the should do a better job of constructing a coherent well thought out CBA instead of being vindictive because they were outwitted by a creative, competent management team. Lawrence Gilman ftw.

What's next, A Review of JB's free agent signings - He did Well!

    Lets start with LE:

Loui had interest from other teams, including an offer to stay in Boston. But JB managed to win him over and get him here.

    WIN!

Loui was traded along with Rousell and Beagle and we got back Conor #$%@#% Garland, and a one time 6th overall pick in OEL, (just six years of 7.26 mill against the cap!)

    WIN!

uhhhh......not one team other than us offered more than 4 years though. $6M would have been acceptable if it was for 4 years but definitely not 6, especially when there really wasn't much of a bidding war.

  9. The Toffoli and Sutter trades were clear losses. Sutter wasn't even better than Bonino and we let Toffoli walk.

Every trade Benning made was to rush the rebuild along. Even the futures he got back were squandered. For someone who talked an awful lot about drafting and acquiring pick he sure didn't play into that "strength".

    FFS.

  10. Just now, IBatch said:

This is a good example of the "high price"  fans of other teams feel is fair.   Kerfoot is decent enough - the other guys... well doesn't exactly scream "yippee!" does it.    But TO is definitely a reasonable target/trading partner as the article outlined.   They even got greedy enough to throw in a deal for Schenn too lol - taking away two of our best cap hit players.

Take our scraps for your best player mentality

I had such high hopes for Mikey but he's completely stagnated regressed even from his last season in Utica. Really hope he turns it around but I think Silov or Spencer will be the backup next season.

I think he relies far to much on athleticism while struggling with the fundamentals like tracking the puck and positioning.

That 3rd goal was a good example, it wasn't a hard shot and it wasn't a well placed shot, yet he wasn't able to either figure where his glove needed to be or wasn't quick enough. Either way I've seen a lot of goals like that scored on him, sure he makes some really athletic wow type saves but is beaten far two often on easy saves that should be instinct type saves.  if after 3 years with Ian he's not progressing but regressing that's a big red flag.

Hard to develop when you never get to play games because you're on the taxi squad and having to share 1 net with 2 other guys.

I think you have to take some time and really get to understand what a QO is...............

A QO is based on the Minimum 1 year contract a player can get. What does to the team, is force the team to make a multiple year offer, which will lower the cap hit.........

So, in Boeser's case..................his QO for 1 year is 8.00 million dollars, and that is also his Cap hit

    but

If Boeser was to sign a longer term contract, it could look something like this....................on a 5 year contract for example (easy math)

    1st year......8.00 Million

    2nd year.....6.00 Million

    3rd year......6.00 Million

    4th year......6.00 Million

5th year......7.00 Million (ends up with him as a UFA at the end), which is why teams want to sign good players to 8 year contracts if possible.

His cap hit is then 33 Million over 5 years or an average cap hit of 6.6 Million.........you see how that works?

I do not think Brock thinks he is at Petey's or Quinn's level of play or pay, and I think that will bear out, next year. See how it works?

And I am not even sure on a multi-year deal, that the QO has to even be there.......so it could be another number in the first year.........

    Maybe @mll could clarify that.

They can always take Boeser to arbitration if they think the QO is too high. His stats this year wouldn't warrant his QO anyway so would be a pretty safe gamble but would likely only get you a 2-3 year "prove it" deal.

    To NY Rangers:

    JT Miller

    Tyler Motte

    To Vancouver:

    Braden Schneider

    Vitali Kravtsov

    Nils Lundkvist

    2022 1st round pick

I'd be all over that deal...

I don't know if you'd be able to get that much for Miller but it's pretty close to the return you'd expect. Although with Motte as a good bottom 6 guy sweetening it not a bad proposal.
