Iginla played a much tougher game - as did Roberts,  and well a whole pile of guys that fought often enough too.   Really it's a who knows situation .. Hank and Daniel were good on the boards too, don't really see what Miller does they they didn't also do other then of course he's stronger.   Marleau...Thornton - don't want to just use HHOFers so how about Kunitz?    Miller has proven to be pretty durable.    One thing that he does have is more miles on his body then some given it didn't take long to make it.    There are enough guys out there that played as hard as Miller did that also had 17-20 year careers, not worried about that.   Same could be said for anyone who's contracted until they are 36-37.   I don't think anyones arguing Millers last couple years will likely be anchors - on a six year deal.    The next five certainly the value would be fine.

I guess we will see in a couple years.

  2. The style of game that makes miller successful  is definitely not sustainable on the back end of a 5-6 year deal, let alone 6-8.Guys like miller play hard , getting injuries is a gaurantee  and he will be far less effective. Cant compare millers game to the Henriks To be fair to miller he should be traded to a team that is looking to win the cup now. Give them a couple years of prime chances so he can get his name on it. He'd be squandering those prime years here struggling to just make round 1. I love what he brings and is fun as hell to watch but would love to see what wed be worth in trade assets to fill multiple holes on the roster.

Sigh...  Well at least we've all enjoyed the "Bruce! there he is!" moment!!

I just hope the team will make some smart decisions on TDL day and in offseason...  Really sucks balls to be seeing a lot of Chiasson and Petan rest of the uneventful season!!

I believe the key mistake was the Dickinson acquisition!! He simply wasn't the effective 3C we were so hoping for and we had to break up the lotto line and overall offense suffered... We are still the same 2-line club for any real production!!

Sutter not comming back  hurts a lot more then most reallize.

I think we might be surprised with trades Vancouver make especially if we lose both weekend games...

One of the following with be traded..Boeser 25, Miller 29, Garland 26-- Think Boeser or Garland..'

Motte - For sure traded  for top prospect and 3rd rounder.

Schenn 6'2, 220 RD-- Could bring back a higher pick then expected or a high prospect..

Halak- ? Would not be surprised - Washington, Leafs -- 4th rounder

Would love  one of these teams to make a crazy trade offer for Miller --NYR -- LA Kings-- Colorado ..These teams are loaded with young talent..

Myers - Possible long shot to move..Have to have RD man to fill big void...

Id take future considerations to drop that halak contract.

  5. I believe i can honestly see and understand both sides to keep or trade JT. He is a beast mode player ,high impact, high emotion plays a tough in your face, grind ya down game and at the same time put up  2PPG , that we as canucks fans haven't seen since ( a poster pointed this out to me and i agree) Kesler (to a lesser degree he wasn't 2ppg guy). We deserve such a player. BUT, do we as a team have the players to push deep into the play offs ATM. Have a solid enough players in Abby to jump up as injuries occur? I do not believe so. I believe we are 2-3 maybe 4 years out especially with new management . Selfishly, i keep JT to enjoy now. Or Trade him for those assets  for the future when we should be ready. These will be Blue chip prospects and players. The kinds other teams know they" don't want to loose" not willing to part with.

  6. Miller is the exactly the player you want when your in contention.... especially at 5mill for 2 years. This is why JR could and should trade him . A first this and next year(2023 looks deep) a grade A prospect and 2 grade b prospects or very good player in return does not seem anywhere out in left field from  this years trades to date. But lets keep him to score 70 pts a year , up against the cap to go out in 1-3rd round in the playoffs for the next 3 years never really getting a shot at the cup or gaining early draft picks. Its time to let or core age and mature a bit ,add youth in this bracket through drafts and farm team, college, NCAA routes during this maturation period and then be in contention for years. That's when we find our miller on an cheap contract, playing for his retirement contract.

I agree he is having a career year

Remembering the 1st round picks will be almost 2nd round picks from contending teams (remembering not great picks avail when we were #1 in the league)

It will be more important what else is in the package

I wish we had got this Miller 2 years younger, but when was the last time a retirement contract from the Canucks was a good one?

We have never won a cup, so that is important You can build a great team without superstars using Vegas model

Then they sign a superstar and start falling ;) (Hopefully for us this a long term fail)

I wish we had a player like  miller in 2011. Cup would have been ours

They could but it’s a gamble. I rather stay with the sure thing….

He's having a Career year and is driving his return up through the roof. With a cup contender team, having JT signed slightly over 5 mil  for 2 kicks at the cup has got to have these GMs drooling. If the return is multiple firsts and A prospects how can you turn that down? There's no cup run coming in the near future for Van  so why not invest in the future?  I seen some projected contracts for miller at 9mil 8 years....no way that contract is going look good at lets say year 3 and a 33yr old JT let alone at 37. JT is at his best when he's hitting and flying at full pace, Physical type players as a whole see drops in production as time wears on and injuries take effect. I love the guy and what he brings to the team in grit and pure conviction but not sure that energy lasts anywhere near the length of his next contract

But we all complained about how many games he missed to injury. Now, on the Flames he has become invincible.

Definitely not all. He was finally staying healthier longer playing with much better d partners who could take a pass and exit the zone not throw it back behind the net constantly. And the protection equipment upgrades on skates and pads gave him the opportunity to remain the shot suppression king and stay healthy. I saw it turning in his last 2 years as a nuck and knew it was going to last.what burned me the most was fan’s opinions that he was asking more than he was worth after taking a team discount on his previous contract. Water under the bridge.
