  1. The kids edge work is amazing. Such an underrated skill. You watch the videos and his feet are always turning to his advantage to get around defenders. He'll be hard to get off the puck when he packs on some more muscle

Here's the translation of his interview with the Swedish media:

Jonathan Dahlen picked up the phone after the game against Västervik.

And got a shock. Hundreds of new followers welcomed him to the Vancouver Canucks - who swapped him of Ottawa Senators .

    - It's insane. I really had no idea, he says.

Jonathan Dahlen has made great success in Timra, and is predicted to be hot quarry SHL clubs for next season.

The Ottawa Senators have also been seen as a potential new club address - until late Monday evening.

When it became clear that the Senators, who drafted 19-year-old last summer, traded Dahlen for Vancouver's alternate captain Alexandre Burrows, Dahlen could not believe his eyes when he picked up the phone after losing the match against Västervik.

    - I got a shock and still has not really sunk in.I read it just now. I had received hundreds of new followers on Twitter and a lot of notices where people welcomed me to the Vancouver Canucks. It is totally sick, says Jonathan Dahlen.

    Dreaming of games with Sedins

The forward has 24 goals for the Hockey Allsvenskan season and must now change about in their dreams.

Instead of gambling with Erik Karlsson in the Canadian capital of Ottawa can now be gambling with the brothers Daniel and Henrik Sedin at the other end of the country.

    - It would be crazy to play with them. I guess that's what I'm going to dream about in the future.

Vancouver traded their assistant captain to pick up you?

    - Yes, what can I say ... it feels so clear and fun, they seem to believe in me in Vancouver, says Jonathan Dahlen.

So sick he's such a sedin fan. Born in the same town as edler I think. Been watching a couple YouTube videos jb was right the van has a slick shot and is definitely not afraid to drive the puck to the net.

You could also argue that he makes his linemates Gaudette and Sikura better. Just look at their point totals from last year and compare them to this year. He really is a difference maker in most of their games. Again, all I'm doing is reiterating what actual scouts and professionals say. And what they are saying is pretty darn good.

As well, take a look at NYR, Washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Minnesota, etc. Their top 9 is interchangeable with everyone other than Ovechkin, Backstrom, and Toews moved around depending on different circumstances.  NYR and Minnesota would be a better example of players in the top 9 basically moved around and yet all have consistent chemistry with one another.

I wasn't trying to hate on the guy. All I was saying is don't just pencil him into the top 6. All I was trying to say is he's a free asset and that's the biggest reason he has so much buzz. That powerplay is deadly and put up a ton of points. Like I said not knocking the guy, he could for sure be an nhler. Great shot, strong on the puck, good on the boards. Sikura is the best player on northeastern if you ask me.

I honestly don't see Granlund, Gaunce, and Baertschi with us in the near future but that's just me.  I can see Horvat being a Bergeron type number 1 center but if we end up with Patrick/Hischier, I think it really makes things interesting. But we're missing a first line LW and a bonafide defenceman. And the only way we can achieve that is by drafting. There's also the coveted number one collegiate forward Aston-Reese who would be a great fit in the top 6 and accelerate the rebuild.

    _____-Horvat-Boeser

    Aston-Reese-_____-Lockwood

    Dahlen-Sutter-Virtanen

    Labate-Gaudette-Grenier

Would be nice to have a big center down the middle and a PWF beside a two-way forward and a sniper.

Slow down on the Reece top 6 talk. I've watched a handful of gaudettes games and yeah Reece is good but he's also a senior playing with 2 pretty solid line mates. Reece plays an NHL style game and he's a free prospect, that's why he's such a hot commodity, mostly because he's free.

Definitely with you on the gaunce grandlund baertchi being part of the future. I think grandlund sticks around but I could see gaunce and baertchi gone, not that soon but 3 4 years down the road I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were gone

Who is Joseph? for offensive D. I dont see him ranked anywhere?

He was in the Top Prospects game as well. I don't know much about him. We would be raiding Charlottetown. I double check he's ranked 31 by  hockeyprospects.com january ranking.

He was actually one of the dmen that really stood out to me in that game. If he's ranked early-mid 2nd that would be awesome if snagged him. He's big and made a lot of fast plays with the puck. Not so much fast as in panicking but quick good plays. I think I remember him getting around the ice pretty quickly as well. He'd be a hell of a good 2nd round snag

  6. Juolevi is a year younger the MT as well. Let's not forget that little detail as well. Older stronger more mature....whatever. Yes dmen take longer to develop so we can't pass judgement till then but let's not forget the oj is a year younger then mt as well. I know it's not a major major deal but should be kept in consideration

  7. He had a couple really nice take aways which is one underrated talent the kid has. Don't worry about the shot totals. Like I said above he just needs to work on his shot a bit get a bit more accuracy. It would be nice if he played with a better centre, not just some defensive scrub. Cassels is pretty bad. He literally creates nothing and his turnover rate must be so high. I must have screamed "feed him" iunno how many times breaking out and cassels would with make a turnover or panic and just dump it in

virt don't hit anymore (well nothing remotely close to last year) it's stupid I see the puck get dumped into the zone and I'm waiting to see virt come into the screen to flatten someone and nothing....

  8. I watched the game tonight too. I thought virtanen looked fine. Cassels is the problem. Omg he is terrible I had high hopes for that guy. Unrealistic hopes I guess. Funkys right about the stream tho. Hand to focus sometimes.  Virt needs to work on his shot big time in the off season. If it was just a little more accurate he'd have a ton more goals. So many shots over the net (not so much tonight just what I've noticed watching him)

  9. Can't we just be greedy and get lucky once?! Win the lotto take Patrick and trade tanev to Toronto for whatever package including their 1st and take foote.

Patrick, boeser, horvat, virtanen up front with oj and foote on the back end is a solid group to lead the next wave.

The depth is getting there with jb's solid drafting but that one stud to lead the fellas would be so huge

  10. 1. Barkov

    2. Jones

    3. Mack

    4. Risto

    5. Monahan

    6. Bo

    7. Drouin

    8. Wennberg

    9.  Domi

    10. Lindholm

love bo and maybe I got my homer glasses on but I see 5-8 interchangeable as well as 1-3. What a sneaky stud draft tho lots of good names left off too. Some defencemen who might come into their own and crack the list

  11. I know he didn't dominate last night but I've seen foote play a handful of times and if we stay in playoff contention and picking in the teens I pray he falls to us. The guys a beast. I don't see any weaknesses in his game and he plays a pro style that would translate well. A potential foote/oj top paring could be our version of weber/suter playing 30 minutes a night dominating both ends

Brad Berry is a 2nd year coach, hardly a legend.

He did win the NCAA championship in his first year. It wouldn't surprise me if he became a NHL coach in the future. Plays the game a lot like the hawks, just line after line of pressure and allows talented players to their own style, that's pretty rare quality for a coach. Just this overwhelming playstyle, no gimmicks like long passes trap hockey, just everybody going hard every shift.

UND had a legendary coach who recruited Brock but left UND to coach the Flyers. Buddy prolly just forgot that Dave Hakstol left UND to coach in show

  13. Man this virtanen hate is getting ridiculous give the kid a god damn chance to develop and figure it out. What's with all the hate that we picked jake at 6.....he was ranked 6 to 10 on almost every single draft rankings. If each and every one of us didn't piss and moan about passing on local talent like lucic and Gallagher jb wouldn't even had taken him. This town would have killed the gm if we passed out on a local kid in our range. Ask yourself why do you honestly think jb was trying so hard to move up to number 1 that year to take reinhart? Because he prolly didn't want to draft jake and saw another local kid.

You want to compare Tkachuk playing with pretty good teammates with Virtanen playing with no-names? Have you seen our Utica lineup? You put Tkachuk there without the likes of Virtanen, and I'd be shocked if Matthew would have 24 points in 37 games. If you're going to compare, try to do it apples to apples - come on, man!

    This times 10

  15. This kids upside is ridiculous imo. Smooth skater, good first pass, good vision, drives the play, can get the wrist shot through, good size and still growing (apparently)

People use olli maata as a comparison which i think is a total cop out and just crap.

Hes going to get bigger and stronger for obvious reasons. If he grows a bit more and gets faster i can see him having a Pietrangelo upside.

If his shot gets harder i can see an ekman-larson upside.

If all goes the same i can see him projecting to a hampus lindholm type player.

Is it true that he was kicked off the knights first team PP time unit in the playoffs (losing out to a younger player)? I do not see how this can project to a solution to our PMD needs, never mind an NHL star.

Mete is yhe same age and he is no slouch, pure offensive defensemen who lots had pegged to go early 2nd. Whos to say hunter wanted him on thr 2nd unit sp that would run through him as thr 1st unit ran through marner

That would be nice, but next to impossible to sign.  We just don't have the wingers a guy at his level needs to play with.

How about leading the league in pp goals getting feed from 2 of the top 5 passers in the game

  18. 9 minutes ago, Yotes said:

Maybe Ryan Ellis? could be totally wrong tho

I was thinking him too but he was a 7th dmen that year and only pp specialist. I don't put too much emphasis in world junior tournies but that performance was beyond impressive for a guy wearing a bird cage

  19. Pretty pumped about this pick, not gonna lie. Can anybody remember the last time a draft eligible defensemen dominated the world juniors like he did this past winter? I keep thinking back and i can't think of any that even come close
