I think Brock is ahead of Kyle. Plays in a much tougher conference and is breaking records in that conference set by future hall of famers. I'm sure Kyle will be a great pro but playing in the NCHC is much tougher than the Big East.

You're a million percent right. My brother plays ncaa and isn't a nuck fan (i know right!) and he even backs everything you just said

  2. Now i hope everyone gives him a little time to get his feet wet before we anoint him bustville. I've seen him play a handful of times......he's gonna make it work im sure of it, but let's allow him to walk before he runs peeps

Glad to see less hate on Virtanen lately in this thread.

It astounds me the amount of vex this kid receives from the 'fans' here. I feel like I am constantly reading about how he'll never be a dynamic NHL player or how we should have drafted Nylander. I understand CDC has always needed a whipping boy, but we have Vey.. so I do not understand why it goes to Jake.

This kid is a monster. We should be honored and excited that we get to watch this LOCAL kid grow into the future core of the canucks.

Also go Jake, you've been playing great lately. Keep it up kid!

Nylander scored! The Jake haters will return soon enough im afraid

  4. Kids progression is just amazing. I remember telling myself over and over what are doing kid? Almost looked lost in his own zone and i agreed with all the low iq crowd. With saying that seems every game hes better and better. Now i keep telling myself on the daily "holy christ this kids good at picking off passes always in the right spot to pounce" i know its a stretch like a huge stretch, but i could see jake being one of the leaders in takeaways in a few years from now

  5. My lord this thread has turned into a boeser bash fest/boeser vs koneckny thread. Boeser is snake bitten and is having a bad tourny.......who cares! To me it seems more like the guy iz just having a bad week rather then bad prospect. Im glad jb took a guy with boom or bust potential over another 2way gritt player like koneckny. The kid is putting up great numbers in a league thats much much harder to score in. Anyone who says the chl is a better league is out to lunch. Ncaa has way better coaching and a much more structured game defensively. Ppg as a freshman is a much better indicator then a handful of wjc games

  6. Regarding the nhl or send back to calgary debate, id like to see jv stay with thr big club and work on these few things that would help him immensely imo. 1 playing in the nhl with pros and seeing how you're suppose to play without the puck ie positioning. 2 change the curve on his stick from more of a toe curve to a heal curve(somewhere closer to a kane style) heal curves are harder to get the zing on the shots going upstairs which by sering all his shots going over the net full speed could prolly be good for him. Curves like that are made for stickhandking and passing. People may roll their eyes but it is a big difference. 3 in season and off season non practice ice time should be focused on stick handling and other hand work. Work with a skill coach one on one.

With all the physical tools he has some time with skill coach could pay big dividends for this kid

Sure but it's easier as a JV fanboy homer continuously using "have patience" as a cop out in this discussion.  Jake can play a game and be completely useless and people will still be in here defending him.   Im just here to say what I see, Im not a hater and i'm not a hockey expert either so don't take my comments so seriously.  If he plays good I will say he played good, if he plays bad I will say he played bad..   Unfortunately I didn't get to see the game today so I have no comments on the matter.

I'm a die hard nucks fan so why in the hell would I want one of our top prospects to fail?  lolz

Its easy both ways really. With so many players people can say why didn't we takr him. Like someone will always have an argument unless years down the road he is the best out of the entire draft thats taken behind him which is pretty unlikelu just odds of it and all.

I'm talking about when the Sedins were drafted, their first few years, and even as late as the 2007 season. You can't deny they were being targetted and publically called out as "soft sisters" by just about the entire NHL early on.

It took years before the twins developed any sort of respect around the league.

And you're talking about facts, are you kidding me? Get your head straight, it's an observation, there are no numbers or facts to that claim. It was pretty well obvious how the Sedins were treated when they were drafted and it's almost IDENTICAL to how CDC treats Nylander. Irony defined. Don't believe me? Ok lets dig up some "facts" for you.

    http://www.canada.com/theprovince/news/sports/canucks/story.html?id=ffaa4444-ea4c-4022-9107-f5497f368451&k=91626

A 2007 article, Brendan Morrison himself says they were called "Sedin sisters" when they were drafted. Pretty damn similar to how Nylander is labelled a girl on CDC.

    http://blogs.theprovince.com/2011/12/13/dave-bolland-calls-sedins-sisters-again-here-is-why-you-shouldnt-care/

Lets not forget Bolland's "bunk bed" sleeping comments about the Sedins, this being during the twins prime even.

It's not hard to remember how they were treated in their first few seasons. The twins were scoring around 30-40 points in their first few years and were ripped on league-wide for being soft European players. Nylander is getting exactly the same treatment when in actual fact, he's single-handedly dominating the North American hockey in the AHL.

A rediculous stereotype that has to stop. It's a shame the Sedins had to go through years of it before they could generate some respect, but history is repeating itself and the ignorant CDC fans are doing exactly that to Nylander. Personally I think it's a bit of jealousy of Nylander's skill, a bit of ignorance having not watched Nylander play and I hope it's not blatant racism. But I suppose when Nylander is tearing it up in the NHL he'll garner his own respect and shrug off these rediculous accusations. It's just a damn shame that he has to do that in order to get rid of these out-dated and irrelevant stereotypes.

I would say the whole sedin sisters thing got traction nore because they were brothers and played on the same line always. Being on the same team media, coaches, etc etc would refer to them as the sedin brothers. Sedin sisters is just a crap unintelligent joke that stuck. They have always veen acknowledged or criticised together being called sedin brothers where is ig we had only drafted henrik he would have been more individualized and the whole sedin brothers would have never bren used enough for such a nickname to be thought of.

He currently plays for the Arcadie-Bathurst Titans of the QMJHL.I don't think they've really announced what they're planning to do with him (which is typical for any team), but I'm guessing most likely he will start in Utica next season, unless he impresses in preseason (like Hutton).

He can't play in utica next year. Still has one more year of junior left after this one

Virt will be WAY better than Booth...He had 1 1/2 good  seasons.

If Shink gets even half as good as Parise it would be a miracle.

Baer and Demitra......LOL  Demitra was a force in his Prime/ The force couldn't help Baer

i only said demitra because he was a quiet type player that made good slick passes (the baer was hard to compare).

the shinks to parise was just because how he takes the puck to the net out of the corners (i did say poor mans parise) the gallagher comparison seems off to me. gallagher is more of a pest and goes to the net hard aand stays there where i see shinks more of a corner to the net type guy

There's simply better comparisons for Virtanen than Booth.

Anyone who expects great things from Virtanen will want a higher ceiling than anything Booth did.

booth was putting up 30 goals hard north south player that hit everything and drove the net.....id say its a hell of a lot closer then the perry comparison and okposo. evander is the best of the bunch. i just think people forget what booth was like those couple good years he had

  13. This is obviously the ceilings

    Horvat - oreilly

    Mccann - giroux

    Boeser - pavelski

Virt - booth ( pre concussion)

Shinks - parise (poor mans parise)

    Baer - demitra

The baer was hard but the rest i feel are pretty close

  14. Good to see this kids doing well. I thought from the very beginning that he just looked like a joe pavelski type to me. Ive seen a few people say the same thing which is awesome. More and more i see this guy lighting up the scoresheet, the more and more im going against my original hopes of him staying in college. Kinda hoping now utica can go on a playoff run and brock to join the boys and become a pro

I don't think that is true. My recollection is that the OHL was prepared to waive his suspension if he made the US team.

And it is definitely is not true that he made the team and was then replaced. When the final roster was first announced he was not on it. He was in the final selection camp and was one of the final cuts. See  http://www.sbncollegehockey.com/2014/12/23/7445153/team-usa-releases-jeremy-bracco-and-cole-cassels.

He got suspended november 26th for 10 games and got cut 4 days before the tournament started. His suspension would be upheld to december 29th which was midway through thr tourny. Usa didn't cut him earlier in hopes the chl wpuld lift the ban which they did not is why he was the last cut

  16. 5 hours ago, JamesB said:

As expected Boeser has been named to the US World Junior Prelimary Team. The group has 29 players of whom 16 are forwards. The team will probably carry 14 forwards, so there are probably only 2 final cuts for forwards. That is the position Cassels was in last year and he was one of the final cuts.

Boeser, however, is widely expected to make the team and should play in the top six.

Cassels made the team originally but was replaced because of his ohl suspension that would have forced him to miss the entire round robin and 1 playoff game

You want to see how a NHL  GM can mishandle a the development of a prospect just look at the Oilers. GM's are not infallable. I'd like to think they were but they're not...enter stage left Baertschi who we were assured by Big Jim was a coronation waiting to happen....NOT !  There's some questionable decissions already in JB short career here....some good....but some bad too

The guy is human lets not forget. He didn't get left with a whole lot in the cupboard from the last regime and had to take a chance on some guys ie the veys baers of the worlds. He took a risk on these guys. If there was no risk these players would not have been made available. The oilers and canucks are apples and oranges when it comes to developing prospects. Our prospects came in with low expectations and complimentary players. Oilers prospects came in as their top players pn the team. I do agree obviously that the oiler way is the bad way.

It was a greasy hardworking goal right in the goalies kitchen. Those are the hardest kind to score. I guess a deflection from a guy playing in front of the net on a pp must be a fluke to you as well. Coaches love those type of goals, it shows commitment and grit.

it went off his foot while crosschecking the defender in the back. only reason he was crosschecking him in the back was because he was late going to the net for the screen. you could almost argue that being so late getting to the net the smarter play would have been to be off the crease couple feet looking for the rebound
