My Wish list
Unlikely, but if they drop:
Dvorsky
Benson
More likely options in order:
Simashev
Willander
Moore
Danielson
If we walk away with any of these guys, I'd be pumped.

Maybe I’m crazy, but I only think about that Nashville deal if it’s all three of those picks.
Who knows? The cost to move up is different every year, and really depends on how bad the team wants the player.
Maybe it's more like 11/75/89 for 15/46/47
I expect we make our pick, and take the BPA that lands in our lap.

Im okay dropping to 15 MAX depending on who is there at 11 and who is left on the board.
IF we could still get a solid player at 15 like Willander / Simashev / Danielson and then pick up another solid D prospect in the second round with it I would be very okay with it.
I doubt we move up, and staying put at 11 is most likely I agree.
I could see that happening. Nashville has 15/46/47, we could likely get 15 and one of those.
Wings have 17 and 41/42/43. Not sure I'd go down that far, but I'd push for 17/41 and of the other 2nds or at worst their third. Not sure I'd go that low though.

will be interesting if Perreault or ASP push into the top 10.
For sure. I think we will have a few really good options at least. If the top10 goes forward heavy, we will have the choice of a all the D aside from Reinbacher. If a few teams reach for D, we will get a crazy talented F.
We really need everything in ourr prospect pool, so unless we go off the board, we can't really lose here. I just hope we keep the pick.

Not sure how I’d feel us going Willander over Dvorsky. Or Moore. Or Danielson. If the top 10 goes C heavy let’s pivot to D but if not, I hope we take one of the C’s.
Edit: I feel like you can actually find 2nd pair D in FA/Trade a little easier than even 2nd line C.
Plus, D usually last a little longer age-wise so it’s a bit less risky signing them at that UFA range. Just my 0.02.
I could very easily see Dvorsky as a top 5 player in this draft, he has all the tools. Benson has insane upside. If those 2 are their at 11, they would be the BPAs for sure.

I think you mean his rankings, not his mock. This was the last time he did a mock draft, https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/craig-button-s-mock-draft-which-players-go-after-bedard-1.1957996.
No, it's his mock draft.
-
Craig Buttons Mock has us choosing between Willander, Dvorsky, Benson, Danielson. Tough call out of these, but I'd go Dvosky, Benson, Willander, Danielson.

What statistics are you talking about?
He also played a more sheltered role than the people mentioned, so he should have had better metrics than the guys shutting down the top lines of the opposing team.
What stats? I mean pretty much all of them, go check out Hockey reference if need be.
Or the eye test, I watch a ton of Devils games, they are my second favorite team and I really like watching Jack Hughes play.
Not too many "sheltered" D play 60% D zone time.

He was a 2nd pair last year in NJ. Played more 3rd pairing than 1st.
Hamilton, Marino, Siegenthaler, and Severson were all ahead of him, and he was eventually pushed further down by Luke Hughes.
Anyone expecting a top pairing D here are going to be in for a surprise.
Statisically, he performed a top pairing D without question. He was in the top 30-45 D last season.
Graves had a better season than all the guys you listed save for Hamilton and was the best defensively of the bunch. He does not play on the PP, or his minutes would have been higher than anyone on the team.
Like I said, he will most likely get top pair money based on that season, but is much more of a 3/4 guy.
-
I expect Graves will get paid 1st pair money. He was a legit top pair D last year. Over the past 4 though he is more of a 3/4. I'd sign him 5x5 without hesitation, but I doubt that wouldn't be beaten

Nemeth would be an interesting LD to look at. Big Physical, and pretty solid defensively. Black hole offensively, but that is fine. Cheap 1yr deal would be an interesting thought.

Someone tell me how to feel about this...
Honestly, it is a really good thing. We have a $4 mill anchor for 2 years, outside of that its 2 mil for 3 years, and no penalty next year. It is a pretty manageable number, instead of paying 7.2 for 4 years.

The fact we have NHL ready depth in the AHL for the first time in forever is a really good thing. Having a few guys slow cook a little longer down in Abby is a awesome.

If we look at 2003 draft, this year should be similar in depth in the first round:

Bet the Rangers would like a re-do

Glass is a 6th over all pick that is breaking out.
11th over all just isn't very good and will most likely be disappointing or a total bust
Dude is 24 and isn't even at .5ppg. I guess everyone has a different ideas what a breakout year looks like.
Similar age and production to Beauvillier, would you give u[p the 11 pick for him?
-
No way he is back. Worth the gamble that we took acquiring him, but he just had too many injuries.

Who will play with Demko this year then?
We need Silovs right away.Martin/Delia. Silovs is better than both, but needs starts in Abby. No sense sitting him on the bench 55 or games.
He will get a number of games this year with the Canucks I'd assume, but most of his games will be in the AHL.

5 years from now? It does!
3. this year in the A, next two as backup to Demko.
At this point, there is no way I'd sign a 30 YO Demko long term. as good as he can be, I don't see him playing at a high level into his mid 30's with the injuries he has had.
-
Well his timeline to take over from Demko as starter lines up real nicely doesn't it?

Why would a rebuilding team give up a minimum of 7 years of team control on what’s expected to be a franchise C for a 30 year old with a huge contract that pays him until he’s 38?
Columbus isn't rebuilding, like us they just suck.
-
My guess is that whoever they bring in makes some significant change. Keefe will be gone, as will one of the big 4 forwards.
My prediction is they will win a cup, or miss the playoffs in the next 2 years.

Agreed.
Even without big roster moves, we can definitely take a step and compete for a playoff spot. There will be other injuries and surprises, but Hronek, a healthy Mikheyev, and better systems/coaching should make for a better start.
That said, JRPA are very active in the market, and will likely make the most of any additional flexibility.
Most importantly a healthy Demko. It's no coincidence we started winning when he cam back healthy and played to his normal standard.

Didn't we trade Hamonic with no retention and actually got a 3rd round pick back? I feel we can do the same with Garland. Also, Beauvillier, Myers and Pearson are off the books next season. That's over $13 million in new cap space next season along with probably another $2-3 million in increase of the cap. That's plenty to cover the Petey and Hronek extensions. Klimovich, Raty, Hirose, Lekkerimaki, McDonough, Petey D and Karlsson are all guys that look like they can make the club in the next two years as well, so we will have multiple new ELC contracts coming in.
This may be the worst group of UFA forwards I've ever seen. Garland and Boeser will have value on the trade market for sure, even if we have to retain a bit on Boeser.

With LTIR we have 9 million to spend if the cap goes up 4 million. We will have a full roster at that. Really it is an issue of shifting $ and re allocating money from the wing to D and C to improve the team. Once Myers and Pearson are off the books after next year, OEL is the only bad $ on the books.

Looks like a pretty good value pick for us, most rankings had him going 30 spots higher.
