Draft Dahlen and Canuck fans won't even remember Tryamkin's name.

    Dahlin*

We already have Dahlen, who is a 19 year old forward.

Dahlin is a 17 year old D man.

It's going to be a rough season or two here anyway, regardless of who plays.  Our goal tending is average, at best.  I think we need to let the kids play and develop, of which Pouliot looks to be a good one.

Bad teams get injured more, so I think the kids will get their chance to play anyway. Kind of like Stecher last year.

    I'd still rather see:

    Edler, Stecher

    Hutton, Tanev

    MDZ, Gudbranson

Edler and Tanev have looked good as a pair. But Hutton and Guddy did not work last year at all. So this might be best option.

Before you bury this poor kid, the recently announced invite list of players for the Canuck Development Camp has 13 of those invitees being older than Virtanen.   Perhaps that can put his age into perspective.   Give him at least another season or two before you bury him - as stated many times, and ignored many times, he can skate so well for such a big guy and seemingly has taken the last year to learn how to be a professional hockey player - something that seems to take longer for power forward types - so while no one has a crystal ball, it is far beyond "no chance" that this kid becomes a legitimate top six NHL player.

How many of those 13 were 6th overall or higher picks?

I'm not saying Virtanen is a bust and has no chance at the NHL.

I'm saying Virtanen is a bust for 6th overall standards. He still has a decent shot at the NHL either way.

With size and speed alone Jake will be an NHL player. Bottom six of course, but still unlikely to be kept off an NHL roster forever. Petersson has a much higher chance of busting out but if he does make it could be a serviceable second liner should he make his potential

so completely different types, one is high floor low ceiling and the other is the complete opposite

Why do you say he has a high chance of being a bust?

I think the lack of other physical players on the team affects players like Gudbranson and Virtanen, when he was up. It's hard to be physical all the time and having to answer for it when you're one of the only ones doing it.

I'm not sure if you've played hockey or not before but if you have you'd know this isn't true.

It depends he is ready for the NHL now with his Hockey IQ but is he physically ready? That is the only thing holding him back. I think he will be on the Canucks this year no question. A Juolevi-Gudbranson pairing would be good. That way Juolevi can transition the puck up ice and Gudbranson can help him in the D-zone clearing the front of the net. Also Guddy will make players on the opposing team stay honest and no one takes liberties on him.

That would be ideal, but Gudbranson wasn't exactly a huge physical presence this year. Hopefully he is better next year.

  8. So....we lost Sbisa but kept Tanev. What are the chances Juolevi makes the Canucks this year?

I think he will beat out Biega and Pedan for that 6th spot but if we sign a cheap UFA to a 1-2 year deal who can play 15 min a game, Juolevi might have to wait another year. Also Holm might have a shot for that 6th spot.

I'd say his chances are 50%

He actually spent 19 games on loan to Timra IK.  So not just same league but same club.  He also got a few games last year and even more this year in the SHL.  I imagine our scouts have seen more of him than most.

He even played on a line with Pettersson and Dahlen....

Yeah, I think SHL is the better league for Pettersson for now. It let's him develop in a more comfortable environment.

If Pettersson gets anywhere between 0.5-0.7 PPG in his first season, then we will know that we have struck gold.  Greater than 0.7 PPG and we have near Sedin level prospect.

Henrik Sedin - 0.94 PPG in his draft + 1 season in the SHL

Daniel Sedin - 0.90 PPG in his draft + 1 season in the SHL

If Pettersson manages 0.7 we have a stud.

But saying that he is near Sedin level is not right. Sedins were really good. Plus, they played their draft season in the SHL, while Pettersson played in the second tier league.

I love the Pettersson pick, but he isn't near Sedin level.
