Who are your 4?  Joulevi, Hughes, Dahlen,  Demko (does he count)?

Joulevi Hughes Dahlen and Jasek.  But maybe McEwen.  And I still think Jasek is closer than Dahlen.  But Jasek doesn't develop as high as Dahlen.

And I wasn't counting Demko so maybe 5.

I think fans can imagine Hughes stepping right into Pouliot's spot.  Pouliot/Gudbranson often get paired with Petey's line.  It'll be fun to see Hughes and Pettersson on the ice at the same time.

I really see Juolevi with Petey and Hughes with Horvat.  I think Hughes just gets Petey the puck less while I see Horvat and Hughes sharing the puck and making space for each others skills.  Juolevi is the cerebral positional euro style defenceman Edler wishes he was imho.

Agreed.  Madden is a hockey player.  My only concern with Madden is he is still physically developing.  Will he come out early, or will he need all four years of school to be physically developed enough to go pro?  I think we should get guys like him and Lockwood to Utica after their second or third years of college.

Madden does need a year or two more of college to mature imho.  I would like to see Lockwood in Utica next year and Rathbone and Dipietro.  Really hope we see 4 rookies on the Canucks next year and Gaudette.  But I do not see how JB cleans house that well in the off season.

  4. I really don't get how Gaunce has not earned a shot this year.  Having his best offensive stats in both leagues.  Never been a PPG player as a pro before (he is in NHL and close as he has been in AHL.  He is also a plus in both leagues.   And more than a PIM per game for the first time as a pro.  If that is not more offensive punch and more aggression and at least covering a large portion of the knocks against him I don't know what else he could be doing and still be Brendan Gaunce.

haha its called balanced scoring. Or would you rather be like Edmonton lol

Petey is elite on his own and makes players around him better so why wouldn't you stack up a second line as well.

Virtanen brings elite skating and an ability for puck retrieval. Once he rounds out certain aspects of his game he could be an elite power forward beside Petey. A Dahlen-Petey-Virtanen line would bring skill, compete, solid skating and overall balance to the line.

And I don't think Boeser is the best possible match for Petey.  He doesn't really create space for Petey and uses space Petey creates.  Maybe Dahlen will make more space and it won't matter.  But Virtanen draws coverage with his play and pushes guys off with his speed.  Plus he has killer zone entries.  Petey in space behind someone like Virtanen would be amazing.  Or Petey and Dahlen on Horvats wings if we get another killer center to play with Virtanen and Boeser like maybe Jack Hughes.  As Horvat would create space for Petey.

  6. Really starting to think that between this deadline and next deadline we could move out Sutter Roussel and Beagle and slot in Gaunce Macewan and Gaudette.

That would certainly be younger and really looking like more upside.

Not been a fan of MacEwan but has size and is amassing a nice body of work.  Needs to keep getting stronger and faster, not bulk up.  Work on his stick skills this summer like Jake did last summer   He is not far off being a solid bottom 6 scorer.

Next year will be a big year for Lind, Gadj, Palmu, Jasek, Dahlen, this year is really a feeling out process to see where they are and what needs work

I don't think your list matches your comment.  At least one is a Canuck next year.  Dahlen or Jasek or both.  Honestly Jasek would outplay several bottom 6 Canucks this year.  Dahlens challenge is he is a top 6 forward and not quite quick or strong enough

I hate to be like this but i hope Scott has a stinker in game 2

I am hoping for like a 9-2 win.  That should be good enough for Mikey to win out and Canada still does just fine.

  9. Yeah, can't ask for more than the shutout and an assist from your goalie.  Not a lot of work and few quality chances beyond the penalty shot.  But he did everything he could do in his start.

In the NHL he was a fourth liner, playing with fourth liners, with the highest % of defensive zone starts in the NHL. Not an area for him to succeed offensively. Where he did succeed is defensively, and was near the top in +/- for forwards and had solid underlying stats. So in short, he is a guy you can put out there for 12 minutes and not hurt the team. I wouldn't give him 5 million haha but there is some value there for a cheap young forward. Like him a lot more than Schaller.

And it seems we have Gaunce in Utica because whoops, we signed Schaller.

Madden 3C. Wahlstrom 13th forward. Clearly we got the better pick. ;)

I thought the point would be Madden 3C and wise not there at all.

Hughes first pair (and listed at Right side!!!!!) while Wahlstrom is 13th forward.

Isn't that the two we picked and the two we passed over?

I think his offensive ceiling is higher...I'd compare him to a B version of hamhuis. Quietly effective, makes impacts at both ends.

Thing is though that Tanev's own offensive ceiling is higher.  He just doesn't step up often enough not he isn't good enough.

In fairness to Lind, he has been injured.  Palmu just had his best game last night.  Gadjovich looked much more comfortable and picked up an assist, and Dahlen continues his strong play.  In addition, for Lind and Gadjovich, the transition is from junior to AHL, from boys to men, is a big jump.  Unless it’s for conditioning, I don’t see any of them headed to Kalamazoo just yet.

i don’t think pumping Jasek’s tires, a kid I have great admiration for, requires letting the air out of the tires of the B prospects - it’s way too early for that.

I think Jasek as a 'C' prospect is a great thing.  I recall Hansen (who really seems to be Jasek most comparable) as our 'A' prospect we added for a playoff run one season.  Lol.  The cupboards are full and we had to build a pantry.

it's looking like a long season.

the way jasek, lind, dahlen and palmu have been owned in the ahl is sobering.  being absolutely scorched early is not an unfamiliar story for second tier prospects trying to jump to minor pro, and is not exactly determinative long term, but it is definitely an indicator that we are in next year mode for fresh forward legs.  i do not discount mcewen, but he is still more likely to be an archibald than a greg adams.

Hey now....when we got Greg Adams he wasn't even as good as Greg Adams though.

Getting the opportunities now too, with all the injuries and call-ups. He’s been a fixture lately in the top-six and on the power play. Many of the early season games, he was playing bottom-six, with lower minutes, less O-zone time, and with less (offensively) talented linemates, so it was a bit tougher to put up the points. But from all accounts, he’s been solid in whatever role he’s been given, and has played well and contributed all season.

Jasek is quite the versatile players.  Checks, hits, skates, playmakes and scores from any forward position. Green is gonna like this kid in a year or three.

We will see how close to PPG he can creep in the AHL.   Maybe next year see how he meshes with a kid named Lockwood.

I don’t see EP ever joining Utica, risk of injury isn’t good also I see as soon as his season ends that kids is so driven his training will probably start that kid looks like the type to bust his A$& to get better.

You want him to play for us or for Sweden? Cause he ain't going to summer training until after the world championships.

I would also like to see him called up towards the end of the season and perhaps playing in the last 8 - 10  games esp. if we are out of the playoffs at that time. Even if the team by good fortune makes the playoffs, I can still see them bringing him up as a depth player and having him practice with the team so he has a better understanding on what he needs to work on in the off season to improve his game.

I was thinking he stay in Utica all year and pave the way for EP to join Utica for the playoffs.

CapFriendly shows his 'sign by' date as 15th Aug. 2022.

Personally think we should ink this kid as soon as we can.  Get him developing in our system etc.  Would be cool to have Hughes in the NHL next year and Jack mirroring the systems down in Utica
