  1. Here is  my line up with a few moves a Tampa trade and a cap dump to Ottawa, see in the GMing section.

    Miller      Pettersson   Boeser

    Person     Horvat        Johnson

    Roussel    Gaudette   Virtanen

    Motte         Beagle       Sutter

    MacEwen

    Hughes     Cernak

    Edler         Schmidt

    Juolevi       Myers

    Brisebois     Benn

    Demko     Holtby

    How we likely start:

    Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen

    Pearson - Horvat - Boeser

    Roussel - Gaudette - Sutter

    Motte - Beagle - MacEwan

    Eriksson, Ferlund (LTR)

    How I’d like to Start:

    Miller - Pettersson - Virtanen

    Hoglander - Horvat - Boeser

    Pearson - Sutter - Eriksson

    Motte - Beagle - Hawrlyuk

    MacEwan, Ferlund (LTR), Roussel

Move Gaudette for a young defensive Center prospect with PK1 upside to replace Sutter/Beagle in the near future. Costmar/Karlsson could change this but that’s my opinion for the present.

Move Gaudette ? Gaudette has gotten better each year offensively and defensively give him one more year to develope he wil be a plus player 35 to 45 points this year.

    Nolan Foote  To Vancouver

Jet Woo + Kole Lind + Antoine Roussel + Tyler Johnson + TB 2nd To  NJ

Miles Woods at 50% ($1,875,000) To Tampa

Ok, so you are saying Why? Well, New Jerseys needs players, and Both Johnson and Roussel can still play, but Van and Tampa both need to clear cap, now yes, Tampa gets Woods but at a very reduced rate, far below his ability, so Tampa can move or keep him. New Jersey gets 2 - 2nd/3rd line players, who will both play at some time in the future.

Vancouver gets Foote who has been playing very well in the minors and will fill in our future LW along with Hoglander and is closer to being ready, than drafting one, next year, if we do. This long term allows Miller to jump in anywhere in the lineup. This makes our Forward group deep. and full of ELC's.

    Miller              Pettersson        Boeser

    Hoglander        Horvat            Podkolzin

    Foote              Gaudette         Virtanen

    Motte              MacEwen         Bailey

     XXXXX           Karlsson         Jasek

     XXXXX          Zlodeyev          Lockwood

    ----------------------------------------------------

    Keppen         McDonough        XXXXX

    Kunz                  Focht              Michaelis

    Gadjovich         XXXXX            Malone

I will also say, I think we are set on LHD with Hughes, Juolevi and Rathbone, who IMO will all be solid NHL contributors

And with Myers, Schmidt, and Rafferty, we will be better off short term. But needing to fill some spots long term on RHD

With Goaltending....IMO we are set with Demko and DiPietro

But getting back on point, the addition of Foote fills in a huge void as a top potential LWer, and moving on from Roussel, moves cap we need this year and next. IMO, as much as it hurts to loose Lind, we are loosing from a position of strength...............

Just thought I would float the idea out there

    Roast away!

New Jersey says no and we we give up away to much for what we get.

Having said that you would be better making a deal directly to TB for Cernak Lets say take on Tyler Johnson  plus Cernak for Rafferty. Then open some cap space by Trading LE + Hoglander plus a second round pick to Ottawa for Gaborik. Gaborik can than go on IR and then you get cap space needed. Sign Cernak for 3 mil.

    Miller      Pettersson   Boeser

    Person     Horvat        Johnson

    Roussel    Gaudette   Virtanen

    Motte         Beagle       Sutter

    MacEwen

    Hughes     Cernak

    Edler         Schmidt

    Juolevi       Myers

    Brisebois     Benn

    Demko     Holtby

Next year JB will have more options for forwards but defense will be fixed.

  4. Miller  Pettersson  Boeser

    Pearson  Horvat  Virtanen

    Roussel Gaudette MacEwen

    Motte Beagle Sutter

    Hawler

    Eriksson and Baertschi to Utica

    Ferland on IR

    Hughes-Myers

    Edler-Schmidt

    Juolevi-Benn/Rafferty

    Rathbone / Brisebois

    Demko  Holtby

One thing that Green has instilled in this group of players is a mentality of "next man up" whenever a key player was out or missing.

I fully believe despite taking a step back in losing some key FA's this serves as a huge huge opportunity and incentive for our prospects.  If anything this allows us to test the strength of our farm system and really see whether our development of prospects has been thorough and adequate.

This also allows us to finally promote some prospects that have earned a look with the big club and we have a slew of them who are hungry.

I dont believe we are taking a step back. The goal tending will be the same or better because the defense will be better. Hughes and Pettersson will be better making the team a hell of a lot better.

  7.          The Kids will make a difference again this year. Pettersson will be better, Hughes will be better, D as a whole will be better, goal tenders will be a wash their record will be slightly better then last year. Pettersson is growing into a man and will be a 1.3 point a game producer  Hughes  will be a 1.1 point a game producer. Offence will increase because of these two players. Teams winning percentage will climb because of this. The young defense needs to play, no more vets unless you can add Cernak . I would give up a second and Woo for him . Cernak would make a difference to  our D core. Rafferty may allso surprise.

My guess is JB was all in on Roussel, he wants to make sure he gets that player on his team. At the time, we were considered a bottom feeder and we would suck for atleast another 2-3 years, so in order to lure players to sign here by not only giving them extra dollar + term, but also offer them some stability with these NTCs. Then Pettersson got here in his very first season and knock the ball out of the park with his performance, and this was followed up by Quinn Hughes joining the team full time the following season. Both Pettersson and Hughes performed beyond the expectations of the organization, and the team became a playoff team much sooner than they anticipated. We thought it will take Pettersson a year or two to adjust to the NHL size rink. We also thought it would take Hughes a year or two to develop physically and mature his overall game at the NHL level. Instead, those two jumped in and made their transition into the NHL seamlessly. If JB had known how well those 2 would be performing, he likely won't have sign all these free agents to longer terms and higher cap hits let alone giving them all these NTCs. He likely would have targeted cheaper options at 1-1.5 million per for a year or two (which imo, should've always been the route when it comes to your 3rd and 4th liners, just bring in veterans who can play those minutes on low cap hits and low term, if they don't want to come here, target another one. If you can't get them to lower cap hit, them get them at a lower term, can't be offering role players high cap hit and term). It is what it is, what's done is already done, can't duel on it.

Exactly JB had no idea how the kids would perform. we are two years away from striking gold meaning the cup run . stay pat, develope and look for ways to improve

Barring any more moves, this could look like Benning's plan as it sits now.

    Miller - Pettersson - Boeser

    Pearson - Horvat - Virtanen/Hawryluk

    Gaudette - Sutter - Hawryluk/Virtanen

    Motte - Beagle - MacKewan

    Lind (RW)

    Eriksson (LW)

    Hughes - Schmidt

    Edler - Myers

    Juolevi - Benn

    Rathbone

    Demko

    Holtby

Roussel and Baertschi to the minors.

Wow Roussel wont be sent down

It's a trend on the board to over estimate all Vcr draft picks. I recall Craig Button who has been in the NHL community working as a scout seems like for ever. He ranked Virtanen as a 2nd round pick .....hey maybe he new some thing ::D

Craig Button knows a lot about hockey and I like his takes on players. Craig is really high on Rafferty as well. Saying he is NHL ready.

Well now Leivo has also left to join the flames....frack me it is going to be really weird playing against the flames this year....

I would have liked to sign Leivo but oh well we move on . Unless he can trade a contract I think JB is done. Up to the kids to perform now, we shall see how his D prospects do.

  12. JB could still improve this team , via trade or signing he hasn't yet on the forward side and i think he will add yet . Toffoli  should have been signed for 4.2 million we missed out now JB is gambling on Virtanen to fill the void. Clearing cap space should have been his main focus even if it cost us a draft pick or prospect.. JB  watched his team come of age and mature going further into the playoffs then expected. He give up a lot for Toffoli and should have kept him. Now its let the Kids step in. I'm ok with that. A step back maybe and maybe the kids surprise. I dont think JB has the killer instinct. Time will tell.

    I disagree

This the NHL, TG job is to win at all costs, that is the job of an NHL coach and what i want in our coach.

The AHL is for developing young players

The kids are NHL ready if you dont use your prospects you will loose then to waivers you have to play them to see what you got . Simple you dont have to play all 4 at once but 2 at a time would be good. You dont know until you know what they can do. Either play them or trade them for better D. Dont Fool around

1 more depth defenceman, resign our players and we're good to go.

Leivo, Virtanen and Gaudette could easily replace Toffoli's lost production.

Schmidt is an improvement on an ageing Tanev.

Sign Fantenberg, Vatanen/other UFA and Juolevi/other rookies coming in is equal if not an upgrade on Stecher.

Holtby is a step back but Demko will be a year better so goaltending may be quite similar.

Most importantly, our young core is a year older, wiser and better, so we may well be better than last season.

JB just needs to tie up the loose ends which won't be easy. Leivo, Virtanen, Gaudette and a 6th defenceman for 7-8M will be tricky.

Even if Virtanen gets 3M, give Leivo and Gaudette matching 1.75M contracts, leaving us around 1-2M for Fantenberg. Vatanen would be nice but will ask for at least 3M.

We dont have room Fantenberg or Vatanen I say go with the Kids, Rafferty is NHL ready and the same with Juolevi ,Brisebois and Chatfield are ready also, no more fillers time to get the Kids going. If Green wont play them then get another coach.

Bury 6 NHL players in the minors? That’s your plan?

How do you think the owners would feel about burying $17m of actual salary in the minors?  It’s pretty much a clear indicator that you have no respect for their money. 1 buried contract is an unfortunate situation. 6 is an admission that you have repeatedly made poor decisions and should be replaced immediately.

How do you think the agents of those 6 NHL players will like that? Do you think they’d even consider recommending Vancouver as a destination to their other clients?

Don’t even get me started on how the NHLPA would view it.

It may work mathematically but its not a real world solution

Three of the 5 are will be Buried anyway its a temp solution to a problem JB created .

My personal opinion is that Steve Dangles is full of monkey turd, and that the Canucks had no real intentions of bringing back Markstrom, Tanev, and Toffoli on those terms and cap hits.   Benning’s biggest priority was in finding a future Edler replacement (which he ultimately found in Schmidt).  Tanev was a warrior for us, but he is easily replaceable.   Demko looks like he’s almost as good as Markstrom right now, and probably won’t need much time to be at his level.   The Canucks’ RW is the exact same as it was at the start of last season (except MacEwen in Leivo out), with Podkolzin being one year closer to the biggs and one year being closer to being a top 6 forward for us.

The Canucks won’t need any sweeteners to get rid of players, nor should they be throwing away high end picks and prospects in order to do so.   The Canucks are cap compliant as of this writing, and a Ferland LTIR will likely give them even more of a buffer.

By next off season, all of Sutter, Edler, Pearson, Baertschi, Benn, and Spooner will be off the books.  One of Holtby or Myers will likely be claimed in the Expansion draft.  With one year left and only 2 million in real dollars owed, Eriksson will also be a very moveable contract a la Marc Staal style.

Cap compliant how so with JV and AD not signed You have a roster of Eriksson, Bartschi, Benn,

Ferland and Sautner (23 man roster) on it . to make room for them you have to bury at least 4 guys and have a 21 man roster to be cap compliant Ferland will start the season on the roster and said he was healthy

  17. 25 minutes ago, Robert Long said:

it would be good if he wasn't invited to the next training camp. I can't see him making the 23 or maybe even 22 man roster (depending on the cap situation).

Who knows, Green might even decide to run with a 7 d system like Tampa and then there's even less room for him.

The Canucks cant bring LE back he is done . The risk is bringing him back we would have to place a better young forward on waivers and Benning would be stupid to do that .
