Makes me wonder if both Demko and Miller were injured earlier in the season. It would explain a lot of things for Miller.

I believe Demko had minor knee surgery in the offseason.  Probably didn’t heal properly.  Explains his poor starts and eventually having to go on IR.

No indication that Miller was injured earlier in the season.  He was still getting points but had “brain farts”.

What I want is for the nhl to implement a rule mandating participation in pre game warm-ups in order to play.

If they don't want to wear these jerseys than they are free to sit fir the game or stick out like a sore thumb and be appropriately ridiculed for it rather than hiding from it.

I don’t think the NHL would go that route.  If anything, they’d cancel all celebration practice jerseys.

  3. Ugh.

Was listening on the radio about the “not wearing warm up pride jerseys”.  Something about if push comes to shove (as they don’t intend to penalize the player), the NHL would cancel all celebration jerseys (ie, CNY, military appreciation, etc).  So sad that the opportunity to raise awareness and celebrate the diversity of society might be in jeopardy.

BUT then again, it’s the media and it’s all about the doom and gloom. :P

I don't know QH and EP40 moving forward if they want it should be in the running for captain.

At this moment I think EP seems like the best pick.

Miller is great and all like the guy but to many F bombs a game which you hear and to me a captain needs to be in better control.

I don’t know if F bombs are that big a deal anymore.  Given that you hear it in movies, songs, and TV.

But you are entitled to your opinion.

I think management really wants to give the C to EP as he can be the face of the team for a really long time.

I agree.  If the team is winning, there is no issue.  If the team starts the lose, then you know how it works.  Fans will start to point fingers and players who make the most money get singled out.  This is exactly what happened to Petey last year and Miller this year...

To be fair…both of them had really really rough starts.  Fortunately, they were given time to play through it.

All players, especially the guys who drive play with puck possession and passing, make turnovers at inopportune times.
Miller is a proven ppg, power forward, who drives his line with elite skills. Bo is not that level of player. So he must be very careful with how he plays, because he can’t make up for turnovers with elite offensive skills. That’s why Bo’s numbers have dropped so much on his new club. He’s being hyper responsible with how he’s playing. And his skill level isn’t good enough to be both an élite offensive threat while playing the right way, especially off the puck. Our management understood this about both Miller and Bo. It’s why we traded Bo.

Why are you bringing Bo into this conversation???

The original post was about how Miller wasn’t bad (at the beginning) because he still was at a ppg pace.

Then I argued that it was his bad giveaways and lack of effort (at the start of the season) that many fans were upset at.

Then another poster argued at looking at the whole picture of the team.

YET you have this need to single out Bo for his gaffes and lack of production on NYI to justify the team keeping Miller.  I would argue that perhaps Bo would fare just as good if he remained a Canuck under RT.

It’s asinine.  What done is done.  Miller is on the team and Bo is not.

For the record, I was on board with Miller signing at $8M (did not like $9M+ range) as he that was fair given he was a PPG.  Also I wanted Bo at max $7M (during the summer) but he priced himself out with his hot start this year.  And was OK with him being traded (because I loathe players walking away as a UFA and getting nothing in return).

Try watching away from the puck too. We can see a lot more than just the play on the puck on the screen. Too many guys were cheating the game (wrong side of the puck) in hopes to get offence.
Too many guys were playing east west to avoid contact. Not singling out Bo, but he was our captain and playing too much in those ways.
Since Bo was traded the club is much improved in how they play off the puck. And Bo, on his new team, is playing much better (off the puck) too.

    Ok that’s fair.

But why is it BAD to slam Miller for all his brain farts but GOOD to slam BO and others for theirs???

Impossible to have one player own what the entire team was doing wrong.

Everyone has been hyper focused on Miller for his trade value,  singling him out is poor judgement.

Many don’t watch the players without the puck, and what they do before and after a play is made by another team mate.

At the start of the season, there were many noticeable giveaways that Miller did and lack of effort that led directly to a goal.  All captured in camera.

What else are we to comment on other than what we can see???

I keep hearing about his terrible first half.

    First 35 games  13g +18a = 31 pts

    Last 34 games   15g + 23a =38 pts.

He’s been remarkably consistent for his full time here. That said I am like his whole game more since RikTok arrived.

It wasn’t getting points that was the problem.  The issue was in the first half was his bad giveaways and giving up on the plays.  Since the coaching change, he pretty much stopped the bad giveaways and also hustled on the back check.

The topic is Horvat being permissive, which isn’t ideal in a Captain. Especially one who has the size to be a deterrent. It’s a bad look.

For sure BO should be sticking up for his teammates (that’s my opinion).  Especially since prior to this season he was a 60+ pt Centre.

My idea of “captain” is stick up for teammates, encourages teammates if they are in a slump, and typically one of the teams best player.

You’re comparing Horvat to two of the greatest centres in NHL history?

Who cares if Gretzky didn’t fight, he did everything else but fight. Mind you he did scrap on two occasions. Got beat up both times.

When you are a legend of the game and a hall of famer, you have guys protecting you, not the other way around. These guys lead by example by being superstar players and leading their teams to Stanley Cup championships.

Horvat is a 2C who puts up 55-60 points and is good at faceoffs. He’s average defensively. He’s 215 pounds. He should use his body more to be more physical and to be more engaged in the game. He’s not good enough just to think he can skate around and just score goals.

Miller isn’t good enough either to just put up points. He needs to be physical as well. Which he is. Miller has 153 hits. Horvat has 46. Petey has 56. You would think Horvat could at least be more physical than a 176 pound Petey. That wouldn’t be too much to ask for would it?

I’m not comparing.  Where did I say Bo was a “great captain”????

The question asked was “What great captain just watched…”

So you don’t think Gretzky and Sakic weren’t great captains??????!!!

Sheesh…you guys are trying to twist people words to suit your own agenda.

I’m asking if you value sticking up for friends Darius. No need to be petulant.

I didn’t say fights Darius. I said get in someone’s face and send a message.

This seems to be a common red herring in defending Bo’s passivity, and it’s mentally lazy.

Can you name great Captains who watch their teammates take full gloved punches, or get cross checked to the ice after the whistle?

    Take your time, I’ll wait…

    Gretzky?

    Sakic?

Not sure but I don’t think they ever fought or joined a scuffle for a fallen teammate.
