    FLY ER DIE: SEASON WRAP-UP

Another disappointing season is in the books for Philly, as they finished with the 9th worst record in the league and missed the playoffs for the 3rd year running. The season saw significant upheaval, with longtime core players shipped out and multiple prospects earning NHL spots towards the end of the year. The team will look forward to the draft lottery, where they hold their own pick along with Columbus' 1st rounder.

    Forwards:

    Grade: C+

A slight downturn this year, as many players got off to a slow start. Claude Giroux got off to a slow start, but still led the team in scoring with 64 points. Hope is on the horizon though, as he instantly gelled with his new linemates Johnny Gaudreau and Nick Foligno. A full season together for that line is a very exciting prospect. It was more of the same for Travis Konecny and Sean Couturier, who had decent seasons and even found an effective new linemate in Tobias Rieder. The bottom 6 was simply brutal, but improved towards the end of the season with the new line of Jujhar Khaira, Zemgus Girgensons, and Tom Kuhnhackl going on a tear. The 3rd line will be the main area of concern going in to this offseason.

    Defence:

    Grade: B-

A surprisingly good showing from the 6 remaining defenders, once again led by Shayne Gostisbehere and Radko Gudas. Developing franchise player Ivan Provorov had a solid sophomore campaign, significantly improving his +/- numbers and playing even more minutes. MacKenzie Weegar continued to be a PP specialist, putting up another 30 point campaign playing mostly on the 3rd pairing. The most exciting thing for Flyers fans will likely be the pair of rookies called up to end the season: Jacob Larsson and Philippe Myers. Larsson showcased his solid two-way game on the third pairing, while Myers partnered Provorov in the top 4 and immediately looked like the best defensive D on the team. Both have certainly earned spots on the team for next year.

    Goaltending:

    Grade: C+

Another good season from Philipp Grubauer, despite a slow start. He improved steadily as the season went on, and appeared to play better after Steve Mason was shipped out for Carter Hutton. Grubauer will certainly be offered a new contract this offseason, but will need to be looking over his should with top prospect Carter Hart coming to the NHL next season as his backup.

    Awards:

    Leading Scorer: Claude Giroux

    MVP: Sean Couturier

    Most Exciting Player: Johnny Gaudreau

    Unsung Hero: Tom Kuhnhackl

    FLY ER DIE: HERE'S JOHNNY

Once again, the Philadelphia Flyers are set to miss the playoffs. Big offseason pickup Max Pacioretty is already gone, and Claude Giroux will have to hold auditions for a new pair of wingers. The team never got off the ground this season, with pretty much every returning player punching below their weight, not helped at all by comically ineffective special teams. The team made some major moves in order to reshape for the future, and they look destined for a top 10 pick this year.

The first sign of acceptance came when Brayden Schenn, last season's leading scorer, was shipped to Columbus in exchange for Nick Foligno and a 1st round pick. This deal already appears to be a win for Philly, with Columbus in a tailspin and Foligno producing just as well as Schenn was. Foligno also brings a new element to the forward group, with the team seriously lacking in power forwards prior to this deal.

Next up, the team cut ties with pending free agent Max Pacioretty, sending him to Chicago for Richard Panik and another 1st. Pacioretty will try to forget about his brief Flyers stint as he chases a cup in the Windy City. Panik was later traded to Edmonton for young power forward Jujhar Khaira, who will hope to carve out a role for himself in the bottom 6. To complete the misery of the Pacioretty trade, Jeff Petry was also dealt, sent to New Jersey for prospect Anderson MacDonald and flag king Yohann Auvitu.

A couple of smaller moves were made, with Steve Mason and Carter Hutton also swapped between Philly and Edmonton. Zemgus Girgensons was brought in from Buffalo for a 2nd round pick in 2020. Zemgus will look to make himself at home as the Flyers long-term 4C. Jannik Hansen was sent to Columbus, while Jordie Benn and Jori Lehtera joined San Jose.

Arguably the biggest headlines were made when the Flyers and Flames made a huge swap, with Johnny Gaudreau and a 3rd coming to Philly in exchange for star winger Jakub Voracek and Chicago's 1st. Parting with Voracek will be a bitter pill to swallow for both teammates and fans, as he was biggest bright spot during this dismal season. Luckily, childhood Flyers fan Johnny Gaudreau is just as talented as Voracek, and is a more suitable age to be part of the next Flyers core. He will immediately join Giroux and Foligno on the top line, and hope to establish himself as the face of the Flyers for years to come.

Youngsters Jacob de la Rose, Jacob Larsson, and Philippe Myers will be given a shot in the NHL now as the team looks to the future. Dominik Bokk is also rumoured to be coming up for a 9-game trial at some point.

In: Johnny Gaudreau, Nick Foligno, Jujhar Khaira, Zemgus Girgensons, Carter Hutton, Anderson MacDonald, Yohann Auvitu, Zac Dalpe, 2019 Columbus 1st

Out: Max Pacioretty, Brayden Schenn, Jannik Hansen, Jordie Benn, Steve Mason, Jeff Petry, Jori Lehtera

    Projected Lines

Johnny Gaudreau - Claude Giroux [C] - Nick Foligno [A]

Tobias Rieder - Sean Couturier [A] - Travis Konecny

Jacob de la Rose - Scott Laughton - Michael Raffl

Jujhar Khaira - Zemgus Girgensons - Tom Kuhnhackl

    Zac Dalpe

    Shayne Gostisbehere [A] - Radko Gudas [A]

    Ivan Provorov - Philippe Myers

    Jacob Larsson - MacKenzie Weegar

    Yohann Auvitu, Andrew MacDonald

First you wanna hate me, then you wanna love me
This is how I'm feeling, I'm just letting you know
Don't wanna hear it, I ain't gonna fake it
This is how I'm feeling, now I'm letting you go
Coldest heart I've ever known, now I'm better off alone
First you wanna love me, then you wanna hate me
This is how I'm feeling now I'm letting you, letting you go

  5. I wish I could fix you
And make you how I want you
    Wish I could fix you
And I wish you could fix me
I wish I could heal you
And mend where you are broken
    Wish I could heal you
And I wish you could heal me
    Oh, whoo, whoo, oh
    Oh, whoo, whoo, oh
