That's a foregone.
Of course he's going to be back in the lineup most nights - and I'd be pretty certain that he knows it's not a performance matter.
They've given him two rests - in back to backs. Caling it 'kid gloves' is a distant armchair perspective imo - I'm pretty sure Green would have his reasons.
One might be that Juolevi has been playing relatively hard minutes for a rookie.
34.1% ozone starts is just a hair over Edler, who otherwise is the lowest on the blueline - by a fair margin.
Juolevi is also getting worked into the penalty killing rotation.
Nothing resembling typical 'rookie D' minutes - and with his injury history - and the fact that he's still a slight 182lbs - I'm not sure it's a mystery why they're not looking to overwork him. It's a long season - they have other arguably NHL-ready young depth / and serviceable depth (thankfully Benn has looked like playoffs Benn as opposed to the Benn we saw last regular season).
Meh
He is 22 years old. Time to let him play. Nobody has had more seasoning then this guy. I’m going to go out on a limb here and say OJ can physically handle a back to back far better than ole man Edler. If he was clearly struggling then sure, but he isn’t.

Im shocked by the poll results. If Motte and JV traded draft positions He’d be a regular in the top 6 and JV would be on EHC Kloten.

Kid: Daddy, How do I become a Canucks fan?
Dad: Well, it’s pretty easy. Can you praise the players when we win and blame the coaching when we lose?
Kid: I guess so.... but I’m confused, do the players only get coached when we lose?
Dad: .....go to your room.- 1

I really want to see Juolevi back in the lineup. Nothing against chatty but IMO that was OJ’s best game as a pro the other night. He needs to build off that. Stop handling him with kid gloves already he has waited long enough.

Man, starting Demko tomorrow looks tempting but still think it’s smart to spread out the work.

When juice said “not sure what that body looks like under that equipment, but I’m sure it’s pretty solid” I shot water out of my nose cause while taking a swig. Horrible timing

That literally added colour to Pete’s face. Looks revived.

Is OJ injured or something?

Gotta love this Ottawa Senator Medicine. From what I hear (I know people) it works like a vaccination.
Phase 1: Bottom 6, and Goaltending.
Phase 2: Top line production.
Phase 3: is an overall boost to everything emphasizing on neutral zone/ transition.
Unfortunately Winnipeg is already vaccinated so no immediate advantage.

38 minutes ago, oldnews said:Hoglander has some special upside for sure (and works hard without the puck as well) - but in fairness to Motte, he was a 32 goal and 56 pt scorer (in 38 games in Michigan) and Hobey Baker finalist... He may be breaking into the league in a bottom six hard minutes role - but he's a skilled guy himself /may not have Hoglander's upside in the end, but conversely, it's unlikely that Hoglander becomes quite the shutdown force that Motte is (a highly skilled defensive shutdown forward - arguably as difficult a role as there is among skaters). Players that are that good in those kind of minutes at Motte's age are rare as well.
Motte has 22 goals in 148 games in Vancouver - when you factor in that those have come with 28.1% ozone starts in pretty much exclusively a hard minutes shutdown role - that is impressive production.
Motte is a sleeper, I don’t know how he is still a sleeper but he is. It’s like nobody ever talks about him, People penciled him in as the extra forward even after his beastly playoffs. He can literally play with anyone. No matter what the momentum looks like in the game it never seems to effect him. Could be losing 7-2 in the 3rd or in a tight checking playoff overtime and you’ll get the same game.

Unsung hero of the game was MacEwen. He was a savage.

Anyone else choke up from seeing Juolevi smile? Just so happy for him.

I’m not sure if that fight was more annoying or awkward.

That was the best F bomb of the season so far

Sens look like hot garbage
They wore these jerseys when they were horrid years ago. This is quite nostalgic actually. Visions of Bonk and Daigle dance through my head.

The dj guy said they will get nux specific chants later in the season.
It would be cool if they used the blades of steel crowd noise.

The simulated crowd noise is actually move lively than our authentic crowd.

Nah I understood it. Marky did the same thing. In 2-3 years he went from terrible to good. Demko’s even shown more at the same age than Marky had.
To go even further, Hasek wasn’t a starter until 30, Tim Tomas wasn’t a starter until 32. Goalies are so unpredictable though. So many have just fallen off the face of the earth after promising trajectories. Like Rayzor and Carey.

Which is probably why I said the losses WERE NOT due to bad goaltending!
Oh yes, the little sneak in flyby line that’s completely surrounded by negativity. You suck, you smell, and your ugly, it’s not your fault, but you do suck.

I think everyone misinterpreted your evaluation. What I got was they’re too young to be expected to carry a team to the Stanley cup and we shouldn’t have such high expectations right now.

A goalie is the glaring hole in your core. It's supposed to be Demko on the list too.
I think this season is Demko's last opportunity to show that he deserves to be protected in the SEA expansion draft and is the goalie of the future here. It hasn't been a good start to the season for him but the losses are largely not due to bad goaltending...he has some serious work to do IMO.
I don’t know how you could watch any of these games and bring up goaltending.
it would be like walking in the ER with your arm cut off and bringing up an ingrown hair.

Team's old vets, or boat anchors, have zero value.
Unless you are willing to part with 1st round picks no one is interested.
Gone at the end of this year:
Edler
Benn
Sutter
Pearson
Hamonic
Baertschi
Spooner buyout
End of Next Season:
Luongo
Holtby
Motte
Beagle
Roussel
Eriksson
Regardless of what happens. A lot of the contracts that are hamstringing this franchise will be gone. And that's just the UFA's.
There's RFA's as well. Options to keep Elder maybe on a two year cap friendly deal? Not even sure Pearson should stay.
I hope that we don’t replace departing contracts with new UFA’s. This has been the trend with JB. The problem with UFA signings is that you’re paying a player based on what he has done in the past. Nobody factors in the decline of a 28 year old player over a 6 year contract. You might get the first half of the contract at value but almost always carry negative value towards the end. Signing a RFA to a big contract is hedging his potential, these are usually the most valued contracts in the League. There is never a hedge to the downside on UFA contracts over 4 years which makes them fundamentally flawed. If our window is +\- 3 years away we should be banking cap space for that timeframe to exploit a team in cap trouble and get great value on a piece that could take us over the top.

I don’t think the plan matters. The manager does. Good management is the key to a rebuild. One could say Montreal and Dallas retooled, they did a nice job because they had a good plan.
Philly and Col did a rebuild, they also did a great job because they executed their vision.
Edmonton, Phx, Fla. failed at both because they had crappy management.
you need a good manager who surrounds himself with the right people. Doesn’t matter how you do it.

A realistic analysis of Jim Benning's tenure so far
in Canucks Talk
Posted
I’ve been silently lurking these boards a long time as well and I’m just so tired of people either blindly defending Benning or blindly hating him. Mind you, the ones who blindly hate Benning end up getting banned. Why can’t we criticize him and love him at the same time?
He is a human who makes human mistakes. He has built a great young core but at the same time he has done horrible damage to this team with his UFA frenzies. Everyone talks about how all these bottom 6 guys are going to be off the books and then it’s cap space galore. We always get excited about cap space when we have expiring veteran contracts. Miller, Sedins, etc. Then UFA day starts and Jim pulls out his pen and it’s gone. When he stops this detrimental UFA addiction every time he has 75 cents in cap space, I’ll call him a legendary GM. Until then, he is just good.
Overall, he is a B-, he’d be an A+ if someone knocked him out and threw him in a closet every July 1st.
