Minor correction, but I believe he said he could play in the top four, not that he's a top four quality.
Regardless, Poolman is bad lol
Poolman's a top 4 defenseman in the ASHL

Bro Poolman might actually be one of the worst Canucks to ever put on a jersey relative to their salary lmao

When does the waiver wire begin? Any potential RD's that may be expected to be on waivers? Maybe we could snag someone up.

With better d imo

They don't have 3 good lines, they have two good lines, and a horrendous D line with a very average goalie in net. We can legitimately run all 4 of our lines with 2 decent D pairs and an elite goalie.

We can probably trade Pearson and actually get an asset back. Dickinson has negative value and will cost us an asset. That would be the reason to trade Pearson over Dickinson...
Agreed. Pearson probably gets us a decent LD or RD, could help us a ton. I did like the way he played though last year, especially with Miller so we'll have to see how that turns out this year.

We have better defense all day but McD and Drais are the X factor aka front loaded team.
Besides them, they literally have 2-3 good wingers. I think our offense (on paper) is miles ahead of them and most teams in the west, I mean, I could just be totally wrong though. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Can someone explain to me how the Oilers are supposed to be much better than us? Yes they have Connor and Drai, but they don't have a great 3rd and 4th line, pretty below average defense and a goalie that didn't play too well on a much better Toronto team. Maybe I'm just being bullish on my hometown team but I think we have a good chance to win the division.

Not how how adding two mid range (at best) guys turns us into a “top team for sure”.
I mean we can be hopeful and excited, but those are whacky expectations. Maybe that is why people here get so depressed, get all insane and unrealistic and then freak out because those unrealistic expectations aren’t met.
You can't look at it this way. Our young guys (Podz, Hogs etc), are expected to be much better this year than they were last year. Our best player was terrible in the first half of the year, Boes didn't play well either and these two are expected to have comeback years. We are a younger team and every year our younger guys are expected to get better, and just based off this off-season, we've also gotten a lot deeper. This is an exciting year and I think we have one of the deepest forward groups in the league if things pan out.

Don't know why we aren't at-least looking for PTO's for RD's.. Left side seems deep enough to me, but I guess it doesn't hurt to have Dekeyser

I don't get the hype around the Oilers. One injury to Drai or Mcdavid and they're probably done, on top of their defence still not being good. Calgary will probably be roughly around the same, but I do think that Huberdeau and Kadri are downgrades to Gaudreau and Tkachuk (Don't think Hubeardeu will have the same season he had last year and same with Kadri, plus injury issues). I see Van and Calgary going for the top spot, Oilers 2nd, and maybe the Kings or Vegas for that 3/4 spot. Think people are underestimating Van, we have a deep 4 lines we can roll and a potential Vezina candidate in net, I don't think our D is as bad as others make it seem. My 2 cents though.

Does anyone know when Petey switched to the shorter stick? Or is today the first game he switches over?

Did anyone else also notice that we played more of a puck possession game, rather than a dump and chase game? It was actually really fun to watch.

Kane has not cleaned up his act and will never clean up his act. He’s one of those men who never gets it.
Eh, we really don't have much to lose. Maybe being home can change his act - DeAngelo changed and is doing well in Carolina, I think Van should take the risk at this point.

I don't see that from Miller, sorry. I did see Bo in a lot of scrums Las night though.
There sure are a lot of people who think slamming sticks, doors and screaming obscenities equates to "leadership" on this board. The mythology of JT Miller I guess
dude there's literally an example in the post of Miller sticking up for his teammates LOL

I agree, it's a no brainer to look into Babcock. He's my first choice, and then Boudreau.

damn man that bubble was such a god damn tease we're probably not gonna see the playoffs in a couple years :/

I think we'll be fine and we'll eventually bounce back. Have to obviously play really well to make the playoffs, but I genuinely think we have the right team, but just not the right system. I've noticed that players flourish when they leave Green's system, so that's ought to be the issue. I'm not blaming Green, he's a good coach but I think we just need a new voice and a new system to play in. Benning had a good off season, he's compiled a good team (defense still sucks but it's not terrible...) but eight years is a long time. My issue isn't with his signings, but rather, it's his management style. You need to be vocal. a leader, and take care of your guys and he hasn't done that.

Podz seems a lot more confident. Seems like the more ice time/games he gets in, the better he plays. I saw flashes of brilliance from him last night, not trying to hype the kid up but I genuinely feel like he's going to be a very very important piece to the future of this team. I think he's the X factor this year in terms of making it into the playoffs and how far we can make it.

I think we still have a pretty young-ish team.
I think sometimes fans (myself included) sometimes think you just gotta NHL21 it. Put together a core group of talented players, and they'll get wins. But the thing is, even these extremely talented players need good coaching and systems to thrive. Players don't get to success on their own, nobody does. Everyone needs everyone else to do their jobs and roles extremely well. If not, it just won't work.
Bo's 26 years old already. How can that be? It's been that long? Wow!
But this team needs to start learning how to win. They're young-ish, but they're not THAT young.
Bo - 26
Miller - 28
Garland - 25
Demko - 25
Pettersson - 22
Hughes - 22
Podkolzin - 20
Höglander - 20
Dickinson - 26
Boeser - 24
Those are the players I consider as core and supporting cast. Everyone else is like role players that are easily replaceable. A dime a dozen kind of players.
Those guys median age is 23.8.
Okay. still on the younger side, which is why I think this is the time they need to start transitioning to learning how to win. By the time that median age rises to 25/26 years old, they should be contending.
I usually never comment but I had to for this post. How do you have Dickinson in that list but not OEL....?

Miller centering Podz and Motte to start the year. We saw Miller last half season carry the mail without Petey and its VERY clear he can command attention driving a line on his own. I don't get why people are automatically putting Motte as a 4th liner. If he wasn't injured, he was having a career year, why peg him in the bottom of the lineup?
Tbh our team is so deep now in the forward end now that there's no other option other than Motte who can play in a 4th line role. Maybe Dickisnon, but we need a 3C.

Based on his past decisions which defies logic or business acumen, I suspect that there is something seriously mentally wrong with Benning. Also, funny how he kept stating that there is no Nate Schmidt situation. i wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't even realize he is a pathological liar. As for the team, they will certainly do better than last year which was an anomaly that would best be forgotten. The million dollar question is, will this new roster be able to develop chemistry and play for each other like last summer? If so, the sky is the limit! Go Canucks!
... What is he supposed to say? Schmidt wants out and we wanna trade him? You don't publicly come out and say a player wants out, you want to deal from a position of power. At the time there were only a few local reports saying Schmidt wanted out so Benning was smart to deny it. I don't love Benning as a GM but I'm sick of this Benning slander, this off season has been great and I'm excited for the season to begin.
