  1. Everyone just needs to calm down and see how things play out. No point in analyzing a player when he hasn't even put on a Canucks jersey yet. Some players succeed in different systems and different roles, I'd take Shaw's word than anyone else's on this forum. Yeah the term sucks but for all we know he could be the perfect fit on our team and our scouts and coaches may have seen something special that we haven't.

    Yes, please.

That's a solid top 9. If we can get a two-way C for our 3rd line along with a great Top 4D to play with Hughes, we'll definitely be up there as an elite team, depending on how Podz pans out.

Elliotte just put the JT (wants to be traded) rumours to bed.

Talked to him today...wants to stay, has no intention of leaving.  Thinks they have a good team here.

Glad this is true. You win with guys like JT, and though he didn’t have the best year, I get why he was frustrated. Hopefully jimbo can put a good team around our core and take advantage of the expansion draft.

If we got 9th or 10th would anyone trade the pick along with Lind and Eriksson for Reinhart? Is value there or you think Buffalo could do better?

I don't think so. As much as I'd love Reinhart on the team, we need solid prospects on ELC's for cap purposes. The top 10 of this draft looks good, I feel like if we need a player of Reinharts calibre, we can look at Free Agency in 2022 when a bunch of space clears up. Maybe not Reinharts calibre, but a player that can be a legit top 6 winger or a solid 3C would be perfect.

  5. I don't understand people not being happy about Green coming back. We were one game away from the 3rd round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a mediocre team. Even this year, with injuries and COVID, I was shook with how well this team played. Expected them to be much much worse. Given a good team, I think Green can do very well. I think the main issue was the assistants if anything, Baumer needs to go. Oh, and Benning..:sadno:

I don’t like a lot of what JB does but there are a lot of things I do like.

I’m one of the few on the JB hate train that doesn’t actually mind trading picks for other teams disappointments. Especially defensemen. I mean, if we drafted a player of Bowey’s caliber in the 4th/5th round we would be over the moon.

I watched a lot of Rockets Games live and saw a lot of Bowey. He is physical, he shoots right, and he shoots hard. he moves like a potato but that can be improved on in the proper environment. I imagine he is extremely excited about getting a chance here in van. I can’t see Seattle selecting him.

Who knows? D men are tricky, maybe things just suddenly click for him. The chances of that happening are far greater than selecting a NHL player in round 4.

it’s not always about getting a player that’s better than the usual 4th/5th pick, it’s about leveraging draft picks to use for trades when trying to clear cap space. We have a lot of $&!#ty contracts that we need to get rid of, and I feel like if we stocked up on draft picks, it makes it much easier to get rid of these large contracts and sign better players in free agency with the available cap space we free up. But yes, I do agree that I’d rather just have Bowey than a 4th round pick, but specifically for the canucks, we need as many picks as we can get.

  7. I honestly don't think NT is coming back. He's doing well in Russia and things are going well for him, not too sure if he's going to want to leave a comfortable life there to play in Van. Hope i'm wrong though.

Sid the kid won the Cup in his 4th season in 2009.  It took him and Malkin another 7 years before winning two SC in a row at age 30 years old.

Their team in 2009 had the two high end players - Sid and Malkin plus a real veteran team, players with extensive 10+ years of NHL experience.  Names we are all know at the downfall of their prime.  They all had jobs at +30 years old.

The veterans all played a role in their SC Championship.

    Players           Age

    Craig Adams   32

    Matt Cooke     30

    Pascal Dupuis  30

    Rusland Fedotenko 30

    Hal Gill             34

    Sergei Gonchar   35

    Chris Kunitz       29

    Brooks Orpik      28

    Miroslav SATAN  34

    Maxime Talbot    25

Stanley Cup Campions in the last 5 years and the age of their top players.

    Chicago 2015

    Toews 27

    Kane 27

    Keith 32

    Pittsburgh  2016-2017

    Cosby 30

    Malkin 31

    Fleury 33

    Kessel 30

    Washington  2018

    OV  33

    Backstrom 31

    Kuznetsov 26

    Oshie   32

    St. Louis  2019

    O'Reilly 28

    Pietrangelo 30

    Schenn 28

    Tampa Bay 2020

    Stamko 32

    Hedman 29

    Kucherov 27

And the core young Canucks are 24, 22, 21, 19 and 14 (Finn).   Canucks fans must wait until the young core ages and surrounded by a supporting cast.

    Canucks 2025 SC Champions.

    Petty    26

    Boeser 28

    Hughes  25

    Horvat    29

    Hoglander 24

    Juolevi   26

    Podkolzin 24

    Taxi squad

    Edler  38

    Ericksson  39

I agree, but I don't think we'll even have enough cap space to retain all those guys... that's the real issue. Unless our core takes substantial pay cuts to remain intact, we really need to start competing soon and hopefully become contenders.

Being able to offer a contract to Hamilton (or any big names UFA next season) relies on losing Myers to Seattle and probably moving Eriksson. Both very well may not happen.

In fact, if Seattle chooses someone like Lind and there is no reduction in our 2022 roster cap hit from the expansion draft, then the Canucks are again in some pretty serious cap trouble.

We would have to try and move an Eriksson, Roussel, Myers or Holtby just to resign our RFAs (Pettersson, Hughes, Juolevi, Gaudette, Demko) and be able to retain Edler and bring Podz onto an ELC. Our big UFA signing to partner Hughes may have to be......Benn (ouch).

We are actually in deep s%!# if Ferland comes off LTIR for next season to create a perfect storm. If that all happens then this is how it looks:

Start with $23.7m in cap space for the 2022 roster below

Pay for estimated $2.5m in performance bonus overages (space = $21.2m)

Buy out Eriksson (space = $23.2m)

    2022 Roster=

    Miller ___1___ Boeser

    Hoglander Horvat ___2___

    Ferland ___3____  Virtanen

    Roussel Beagle Motte

    (MacEwen)

    ___4__  ___5___

    ___6__ Schmidt

    ___7__ Myers

    (Rathbone)

    __8__ (Holtby)

    Fill the above gaps with:

    1. Pettersson $6.5m (bridge?)

    2. Podkolzin $0.925

    3. Gaudette $1.5m

    4. Hughes $5.5m (bridge?)

    5. Benn $1m

    6. Edler $4m

    7. Juolevi $1.5m

    8. Demko $3.2m

Signing these 8 guys comes to $24.1m when we only had $23.2m space.

It suggests we really need to make a trade to move out Eriksson, Roussel, Myers or Holtby. Or we hope Seattle takes a Myers or Holtby sized contract....

Hughes and Petey are getting at-least 7M. I'd be shook if they get anything less.
