Too true - how is this bad value based on recent contracts signed? The market is what it is...not what some fans perceive it to be. We just signed an insanely competitive player, "character in the room" beast and multi-talented much respected teammate to an at par or slightly below contract. I could not be more stoked for the season

Apologies Stawns, but is your reaction based mainly on your predictions?? I always appreciate your takes and of course agree and disagree depending - but I fail to see how this contract is negative based on similar players in the league based on "stats"...not even factoring in JT's character, leadership and positive impact on the overall attitude and morale of the team (which you always mention as being important). At some point you have to appreciate certain players and pay them accordingly. I do agree the contract will not look as good in 5 years but I believe EVERY team in the league has or will have that kind of contract, it is the reality of the NHL currently. Yes we have issues on defence but these were not going to be solved this year or next by trading JT IMO. I love this signing and can not wait for the season to start!

I completely understand where you are coming from, though my issue is more from the sources - I am finding it increasingly aggravating/tiring etc to read, follow and listen to Canuck information. I mostly blame social media as now any fool has a platform, and "negativity sells" so we mostly seem to get randoms spouting off on all things wrong....as opposed to all things right and positive. I am 46 and I used to love reading the Province Sports section in paper form (I know, it did exist) and there was never this much negativity. Also loved Sports Page with Taylor, Barry Macdonald and even Shorthouse. I think Sekeres and Price finally destroyed my faith in media as positives seemed to always be minimized while negatives maximized, I just hate that and I find myself reading it, and there is so much of it, perhaps that is part of it? I am trying to stay away from the junk and will always support my Canucks, stay positive and support as you can Canuck Brother!
