  1. We have a run now of 5 poor or out of form teams, including the Preds which will be an important game.

If we can win 4 of those It could do wonders for team confidence and we could still return to form and sneak into a play off spot, especially with all the wild card teams in the west playing like ass too.

I really don't see us going on another fairy tale run this year tho, so if we go like 2:2:1 or something i think were cooked and may as well tank for missing out on Bedard and getting a lazy, injury prone, fatty bustaroo at 4-6 again.

  2. Another tough but winnable game.

If we keep it simple on zone exits and keep our discipline through the neutral zone we can limit their high danger chances.  Our D have both size and can skate that should counter their F's to some degree, but we can't be giving up odd man rushes and sloppy turn overs. Hughes, Bear, Bones, Myers - whoever plays needs to be super responsible. Schenn needs to be careful he doesn't get burned.

No suicide passes form Miller, Podz etc tonight pls.

If we play like we did against the Pens we can win - if we play like we did against the Canes its GG.

    4-3 Canucks !

  3. The thing for me, is after 10 years of being as positive as i could be through a very long, disappointing and painful rebuild we are now left in this purgatory of still not really knowing what this team is.

We had a lot of hope in 2019 bubble heroics that we were finally seeing this promising young core that, with the right supporting pieces, could compete for a cup.

Since then we have had 2 more years of disappointments and false dawns with no real consistency or signs of positive future.

Into year 3 of our post playoff doldrums - were seeing the same old problems and It looks like this core is never going to be competitive as the 'core' pieces just aren't good enough.

Everyone who sat through the long Benning rebuild saw the lack of proper tanking, late seasons winning streaks and building a 'winning culture' with a 14million dollar 4th line costing us high draft spots just didn't work, it built this; a team that has thus far not shown it can compete - and the word has always been that F.A won't embrace a full tank. So its natural some people want to see a owner who will do what it takes as they don't wanna endure the same pain again.

So a long losing streak and the fan base is gonna get upset and is going to want reassurances that we might have a competitive team at least sometime in the future.

A few winning streaks and that hope and promise will return, and we can believe that just adding a few more key pieces once the Benning blunders have resolved themselves will see this core team come good again. Everyone is happy and cheery and parade routes are being planned again.

I use 'All' as liberally as the OP's stats of course.

The media here have always been negative, childish and winey - i wish that would change for sure.  But I think were justified in being a unstable and somewhat binary lot at this point in time, until we see some true and sustained hope were on a path back to have an entertaining and competitive team we can be proud of.

  4. Interesting on Hughes - He looked noticably weaker on his skates on that roadtrip than he did in Pre-season when he was fit. As bad as our D looks without him, we gotta get him rehabbed and back 100%.

Rathbone needs a run to build his confidence and work on his decision making - there's a player there for sure, and he can be a difference maker but needs to clean up the tasty pizza throws. Rooting for Bear but i'm not sure u can play him and Rathbone in the same lineup despite them playing different sides.

I would send Boeser out on a conditioning stint to Abby - let him get his pre season in and his confidence back. I know a lot of people are on his back right now, but he can be a special player - just seems to need to starts to absolutely align to make that happen. I don't think a semi fit, poorly conditioned Brock is the kinda player that helps us in the dirty scrap that our return to form with a thin AF blue line is gonna need.

Podz kinda needs to get his game back - he's really fighting it right now and has been a for a few weeks - hope its just a knock or an illness or something.  He needs to put in some responsible shifts on the 4th line before he starts to climb the lineup, specially with the top 2 lines firing of late. So don't mind him there.

Interesting to see what Studnika can bring as 3C - Aman has looked quiet good but hasn't be able to break through creatively.

  5. I like this trade... but only due to that fact that i one day hold out the hope for a line combo of :

    Pedey - Petey and Pete-D

And yes - Before you point it out i'm aware Pete-D plays D, but probably will be converted to forward like any of our other promising D prospects by our dog shit D development pipeline :picard:

All in - Bear is a marginal NHL player but still better than some of our replacement level D - helps us compete this year, if u believe we still can and only gave up a fairly worthless draft pick. So not a terrible trade in the terrible situation we are in.

  6. :picard: Yet more garbage thrown on top of the dumpster fire that is our beloved Canucks.

Myrenberg was up there with our best RHD prospects - not bluechip sure, but had some real nice looking potential.

Mikey was a legit blue chip goalie prospect until JB ruined him during Covid - so sure probably had little value now.

But again were down YET ANOTHER D prospect for a bottom 6 forward who is likely on waivers by Xmas. Further to this we bled even more trade chips with no D of quality coming back.

Don't honestly get this at all - unless this is some kind of trade plan to ship out Miller or Bo in exchange for a D upgrade where they think Studnika, Aman and Lazar can form a solid bottom 6 C lineup.

Oh well - lets all go watch the team get caved in on D by the mighty Kraken :frantic:

  7. Honestly, no i don't.  Probably makes me a shit fan i know, but man these last 10 years have been trying - all the high profile busts, and expensive free agents that 'retired' on the ice. The terrible lottery luck - every bright ray of optimism of a player disappointing year upon year. Missing the playoffs every dam year. Getting pushed around like a pack of weaklings.  I dunno - i have very little positive memories of this team beyond the moment the Sedins stepped off the ice.

All my hopes were this core could be salvaged and i partially believe it still can - but i can honestly and without shame say, if we tank sell the entire lot and tank again I'm not investing time and money to continue to watch the team until the unlikely day comes they start to become competitve again...

Who am i kidding, i probably will - but i'll hate myself for it.

  8. I don't wanna get into this whole pissing contest again . . .

I mean clearly the JB rebuild was a failure as we've had 11 years of misery with nothing but a crazy bubble run to show for it, and at this point the future is looking as bleak as ever. How much of this was Bennings fault, and how much lies on the impatience of F.A to do a proper rebuild is a point of debate for sure - as only rumour and conjecture exist to support either side.  Tho the many high profile draft misses and organizational failures are hard to not pin on Benning i have to say.,

JR / PA., like JB before them have come into a team that is really backed into a corner.  No blue chip prospects, No cap space and filled with bad contracts, and a horrifically imbalanced squad. Its going to take at least 3 years to see if this group can turn the 'rebuild' around.  Weather doubling down on JTM or not was Aquaman or JR/PA is also still unclear and a massive point of debate.

  9. OK trying to muster the final drop of positivity that exists within me when it comes to this team, as thinking about what a hot mess they are right now and probably will be for the next 10 years is making be depressed AF.

So were a slow starting franchise, that always struggle on the east coast - even when we were actually good. We played a lot of strong teams on the road trip and the weaker teams were either desperate or form, including buff - couple with which we always struggle the first game back from a long road trip.  NHL conspiracy ?!!>!! :bigblush:
Are borderline at best D when 100% fit is absolutely thread bear.

We usually match up well against Carolina - even tho they are a fast, skilled team. If Hughes plays I think we can win and start to turn it around tonight.

Yeah no point in even trying to fix it at this point... the players we hoped had to the potential to be elite are only moderately good at best. Too mentally week to even put in a consistent effort every season so zero chance of winning a cup where you have to slog through the battle of a play offs.

No real way that PA / JR could fix this team with the assets we had - gonna take 3-4 years to repair the rushed rebuiled of JB and co - shame we doubled down on it with the miller contract at this point in time tho when we could have probably got a least a few decent pieces out of it.

That Buffalo team is finally looking decent - but it has basically 4 first overall ( or close enough too its) worth of assets on the ice.  I'd probably ship out anyone not named hughes / Petey over the next season or two and see where we end up with another role of the dice - probably another 6 years away from being anywhere near anything we really wanna watch regularly

I literally can't believe they are even worse than last year !! Well i can i suppose as our D is absolute trash. :picard:

  11. Absolutely choked at the start we have had here - its made much worse by the fact it does seem habitual for this core. :(

That being said - They have been the better team for the majority of every game they have played - just sucks they keep getting sunk by sloppiness.

1 point is progress - lame i know, but i do believe we will get better results eventually if we keep playing this way, without the costly mistakes. I just hope we haven't dug a 21/22 sized hole again by that time.  Will also continue to support the team every dam game, despite how annoyed and angry i might be after every no show performance, blown lead, and other massive on ice failures.

We can’t keep saying it’s the defensive coach or the PP coach, fire this guy or that guy, it’s the damn players. They aren’t performing or just flat out aren’t good enough to win hockey games at this level

Joking about the similiarites to the 2021 Green Canucks aside - I feel, from watching them in 5v5 at least, they are pretty well coached. Not getting caved in their own end anymore like under green, can actually cycle the puck and support the puck carrier pretty well, lots of shot through.

They just switch off - don't give consistent energy, can't raise their game when it matters - this is on the core players not the BB IMO.

Not sure what's up with special teams - that should have been a 4-2 hockey game to us, but can't even kill 10 secs of a pen anymore. :picard:

I still think they will come good again eventually - but were already digging a pretty deep hole and our playoff rivals are putting up lots of points - can't see us making it again this year, even if it is only 3 games in.
