  1. Can ForsbergTheGreat join or is he still banned? ....Asking for a friend
  2. You never really know what you are getting in a player beyond the first round. If you go back in the most recent years and look at the players who end up making the NHL taken from the 4th round and beyond, you start to notice a lot of overaged draft picks. Now I wouldn't call any of these kids striking gold, but they are players that amounted to be some of the best in their range. In 2020, the best pick taken after the 3rd round (so far) is Nils Aman who was drafted by the Av's as an overager. In 2019 the three best picks taken after the 3rd round (so far) have been Maccelli, Parssinen, and Harvey-Pinard. Harvey-Pinard was an overager taken by the Canadians. In 2018, the best pick taken after the 3rd round (so far) was Sharangovich. Yep you guessed it he was overager taken by the Devils. In 2017, the two best picks taken after the 3rd round have been Batherson and Aho(d). Sebastian Aho the defenseman was taken by the islander as an overager. Who knows, maybe this year was the year a Kaprizov or Gaudreau slipped through the cracks but I don't think you can claim it was a waste or the players will never amount to anything because they were overagers. Ondre Palat, Viktor Arvidsson and Devon Toews were also overagers picked within the last 10 years.
  3. I don't know if I can remember a year so many teams have multiple 1st round picks 1st overall CHI also picks 19th overall 4th overall SJ also picks 26th overall 5th overall MTL also picks 31st overall 6th overall ARZ also picks 12th overall 7th overall PHI also picks 22nd overall 9th overall DET also picks 17th overall 10th overall STL also picks 25th & 29th overall 15th overall NSH also picks 24th overall And then on top of that CHI has 4x second round picks (35, 44, 51, 55) ANA has 3x second round picks (33, 59, 60) SEA has 3x second round picks (50, 52, 57) BUF has 2x second round picks (39, 45) NSH has 2x second round picks (46, 47) Hawks have more top 60 picks this year than the canucks have had in the last 5 drafts combined (including this year). After having 5 picks in last years draft, you'd think CHI would be a willing to move out a pick or two for proven assets. Would love to find a way we can grab another 30-60, there's going to be a lot of good players left in that range, Oliver Bonk, Beau Akey, Tanner Molendyk, Gracyn Sawchyn
  4. It depends on if anyone that our scouts are high on fall to us at 11 or if they are high on someone in that range. If we are not completely sold on a specific player, Moving down to 19 and picking up another pick + dumping some cap seems like the play to make. At 19 your still getting one of, Yager, Pellikka, Honzek, Wood, Perreault, Danielson, Willander, Barlow, Sale, Simashev
  5. What about option 5. Send the 11th overall to NSH for the 15th overall + 46th overall - Draft Willander
  6. Looking at the grouping this years it seems like there are 3 groupings give or take a player or two. 1-5, (Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson, Michkov, Smith) 6-10 (Dvorsky, Benson, Reinbacher, Leonard, Moore) 11-19 (Yager, Pellikka, Wood, Perreault, Danielson, Willander, Barlow, Sale) With us being at 11, the more I think about it, unless a players like Dvorsky, Benson or Leondard drop to us, I'd like to see us explore moving down. Were still going to pick up a solid player Preds pick at 15 and have FIVE 2nd round picks over the next two years. A deal with them around something like: 11th for the 15th + 46th + TBL 3rd round pick Wings pick at 17 and 8 picks top 60 picks in the next 2 years. 11th for the 17th + 41st + 73rd Hawks pick at 19 are Oozing top 60 picks over the next 3 years. Since they are 8 picks back and a cap floor team, it might make value sense to offload some cap at the same time. 11th + 2024 NJ 4th round + Garlund for the 19th + 35th + 2024 VAN 2nd round pick
  7. Wings have a lot of young defenders pushing for a roster spot and in 2-3 years Hronek might have been the guy on the outs with a contract coming up. Yzerman was likely just trying to get ahead of the game and bring back a solid return. Wings are really high on Johansson and their 2021 6th overall pick Edvinsson, Jared McIsaac will need to clear waivers next year as well.
  8. Yep, but to me this deal isn't a convervative thing (although Smith is trying to use it as one). This deal was approved unanimously by a city cousel that is largely center/left. The thing that seems to be getting missed in all of this, is that the arena is only part of the deal. The real benefit is the revitalization of the East viliage and rivers district downtown area. Calgary has been investing a ton of money into this area and in large part it has quitely been a great success for calgary. In the last 5 years they just finished a $250m pubilic library, a $80m 50,000sq/ft parkade and a $12m renovation to two floors of east village place. This has brought in a ton of private investment to turn this neighbour into an attractive place to live. Two of the most notible quotes from the mayor are: "Gondek says the focus isn’t a singular facility, but bringing an entire district to life." "Gondek says this type of investment will invite other private investment like hotels and residential towers. She says all Calgarians stand to benefit from this type of project." And you are right In the breakdown of the costs; the arena, the attached parking and the enclosed plaza will cost $849m. This will be paid largely upfront by the city and then repaid back by a 35 year deal with the flames, that will see the team paying $734m over that span ($40 million upfront and $17 million per year (increasing 1% per year) over 35 years). The team will also be required to donate $1.5m each year to community sports over that 35 year span ($52.5m). Beyond the arena, the province is going to invest $300m to fund transportation improvements, land, infrastructure and site enabling costs, including off-site and on-site utility servicing costs, public realm, a new underpass below the CP rail right-of-way at 6th Street SE, and site clearing/demolition of the saddledome. From the cities perspective, this is $300m that it didn't have coming in, largerly for work that was already planned to be done regardless of an arena deal, so that's a big win.
