screwed by ownership. I have no doubt trading him was the right move. Reports surfacing that some big offers were made. Clearly the aqs haven't learned from previous mistakes. This team will continue to be the laughing stock of the league. Only way this is justifiable is if MG is fired before draft and they let a more well liked and qualified GM make the Kesler deal.

I don't think we should trade our best player for an inferior package.
If Kesler is disgruntled then he would surely expand his list of teams he would go to
creating a huge bidding war at Draft day
Do you really feel that Sutter, 3 prospect D-men and a 25th overall pick
is good value for Kesler???

I don't know what the trade is. There are rumors of Schenn and a first from Philli. There are rumors MG doesn't even have authorization to trade him. I do know he's considered the hottest commodity on the market and at the rate were going some assets and our current first could allow us to move up in the draft to a top 5 pick. I dont get to watch a lot of jr so im not going to pretend to know what im talking about but Looking at mock drafts there's some pretty intriguing forwards slotted at in the top 5-10 position based off size and stats.

There is no pressure on Gillis to trade Kesler today!
Either Gillis gets the package he wants for him, or he tells the teams to pound sand!
And then what? We wait til the draft where his value will most certainly be lower?
Then wait for him to get disgruntled. Another Luongo situation would be great. Then sell him for a lot less than what we could get today or just wait til he becomes a ufa and lose him in free agency. This team appears to be going nowhere fast. If MG has approval to trade him the best move has got to be today in my opinion.

Not sure what your point is. This doesn't disprove or prove anything. We don't know what is true/ not true but assuming kes won't go to nyr because of AV, its perfectly logical to think he wouldn't go to CBJ because of Umberger. One quote from RJ doesn't change anything. And it may not even be how umberger really feels.
Kes is on the record as saying he wants to stay and I think we all know that's a croc of crap...

agreed. Looking at the standings a 6th overall is doable with a hard tank. At the pace we're scoring at right now we may just get there unintentionally too.

From the sounds of it he wanted out badly during the olympics. Now he has a short list? Beggers can't be choosers. If the list is too short MGs baragining power goes down. Hopefully the few teams involved are desperate enough to go all in for him.
People seem to think it may be better to wait til the draft but I think the oppurtunity to have him for three playoff runs instead of two would make his value at its highest now. MG has got caught waiting too long in the past. I think its probably in his best interest to move him now, especially if we aren't going to make the playoffs. We could tank the last 20 games pretty hard and get a top 10 pick.

Umm....yes. 2nd and 4th overall picks in recent drafts are very valuable on their own let alone combined in a package together.
It was said the Islanders offered CBJ all of their picks in the 2012 draft for Murray and they still said no.

Im not sure why everyone seems to think Edler is an expendable asset. Last I checked he said he was happy here, wanted to be here and has a veto in his contract in case he is traded. The only movable Dman we have is Tanev.

Kesler needs to go to the wing, he is not a passing player, he is 100% shoot first. Yes he is ok on faceoffs, but his defensive game is not as good as it has been in the past, so bump him up to the top line and that gives us an above average top line
bring burrows to 2nd line and get ROR who passes more than kesler, you could even do sedins and burrows and then kesler on the wing for ROR, the thing is Kes just doesnt utilize his wingers very well. In kesler's mind, any day he is going to return to the player he was in those 6 games against nashville.
What happened last postseason when we tried to slot Roy in at Keslers spot? Kes hated it. Maybe you're the one who doesnt get it.
We need to build around what we got. Sedin Sedin Burrows is good. Our defense and goaltending is fine.
Its the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines that need finetuning. Selling the farm for ROR is mot the answer. Getting Keslers second line and our Powerplay some legit pure offense on the wing should have been and still is the number one priority.

Don't think we need another centre... we seem to keep trading for them and drafting them year after year and nothing seems to stick. We have Henrik and Kesler for the forseeable future at 1 and 2... why create more CoHo situations...
And I think we have enough two way guys. It's time for some pure offense. Why not go hard after someone like Marian Gaborik now and then try him out once his injury heals up. If he fits then we have the room to resign him.

Cant they just give Linden some BS front office position? Watching him try to host the canucks for kids telethon was painful enough. Leave the GMing to a seasoned assistant GM who has learned the ropes from someone who has done this before.
