They didn't trade Horvat because they wanted to, they traded him because they ran out of dough.
Bo isn't worth 8.5.

painful listening to Drance today - all he has done is whine whine whine.
Really wish people would talk more about Hronek and what he may be able to do for us over the next 8 years....
Sounds like a few posters in this thread. They just regurgitate what they hear and is mostly emotion based due to the hate of an owner and his FO. I find it particularly amusing.

This thread is just a merry go round.

Too many people are hung up on the draft picks. If you want a true rebuild. You trade Petey and Hughes as well. Were not doing that. We are building around them.

Ballard, Gudbranson, OEL.
Sunk cost fallacy. No matter how bad he is we will pay him big money in the next offseason. Given he is in his prime now, we are a bottom feeding team, and there are a tonne of red flags with the player I can’t see this not ending terribly. Same feeling I had when we made those other three trades
Not really seeing much if anything to refute that this isn’t an absolutely horrific trade
Reality check, it isn't a horrible trade at all.

Petey should be around 8x10 to 10.5. Which is expected. This isn't 2012. Salaries have increased significantly for players across the board.

Holy! Didn’t think Pasta was gonna be that expensive.
Why? Salaries are based on a percentage of the salary cap. His AAV seems in line. Nothing really surprising.

To be fair…
Beau was at 49gp with 20pts as a NYI. Hardly on fire. It wasn’t until he was with EP40 that he caught lightning in a bottle going 11gp with 11 points.
Do you really think Beau will maintain his PPG pace and become a PPG player? No. But people thought he was a cap dump and they've been proven wrong. Another solid player brought in by the FO.
-
Just because it's a deep draft doesn't mean you're drafting a guaranteed all star. You may get a solid player but it's still a crap shoot especially after the top 10. Even in the best draft classes of all time, the odds aren't great. So still a decent trade.

Hronek has a bomb from the point. We haven’t had that in our D in awhile. With Petey teeing them up since the allstar break, we now have a big point shot on both PP units.
Yup. Been watching some videos on him. His shot is nice.
People are making out the 2 draft picks to be more than what they really are (It's mostly the rebuild from scratch crowd, who dont like the owner or the FO hired by said owner). They could be good but they could also bust. Hronek is young player ready to contribute now and for the foreseeable future. He also fits the age group of Petey and Hughes. The only wish I had was to only give a first or a second. Not both. And if there was another pick needed, a later round pick on top of the 1st or 2nd.
Still a decent trade overall. Not great but not horrible either.

If you truly want a rebuild, then you probably need to trade Demko, and one of Hughes or Pettersson. Which one do you choose?
Not once has this FO said they wanted a rebuild. We have 2 corner stone pieces to build around and some really good complimentary players now. We got younger and addressed some gaping holes. The future is looking better than it did 2 weeks ago.

What team has ever won with just two players? It's crap. Their formula is crap. Not one lightbulb in that office goes off and says this isn't working. Stupidity at its best.
But we don't just have 2 players. We acquired some really good pieces going forward.
-
With the acquisitions of AB, Raty, VK and Bloom we were able to stock pile some young talent with some NHL ready talent. This enabled us to let go of the NYI pick and a 2nd round pick. I would have preferred only 1 pick going out for Hronek but it's not as bad as people are making it out to be.
With the way things are going this season, we will still have our lottery pick which is all that really matters now with the young players we've acquired so far. I'm hoping BB is moved for another pick and or piece and then this TDL can be labeled as a success. If not, it's still not a bad way moving forward.

What PA and JR are doing isn't close to what Benning was doing.
-
Love what JR and PA have been doing this deadline. We got younger while addressing some big needs. The forwards they have brought in have been very good. They addressed our RHD situation as well. Not once has the FO said they were going full rebuild mode. Not with Petey and Hughes about to enter their prime years.
It's obvious they're building the team around those 2.

to be fair it is, essentially, two first rounders. Again,my issue is timing. Both those picks will be far more valuable at the draft, why not wait? There's zero need to add right now.
Fair point but I think they got value they wanted.

People freaking out about a draft pick that may not even pan out while taking a 25 year old highly effective RHD about to hit his prime years.

What does size have to do with it? I think ability is more important. If OEL is only having to play 15min a night along with Bear, I think it would be a massive win to have a 3rd pair that can be completely relied upon when they're out there.
Have you looked at the buyout cost of OEL? Look at it again. It makes ZERO sense to buyout OEL. Retaining on him to bring his cap hit down to $4.7M means you could ship him out for sure.
Please stop explaining to the "buyout OEL" crowd why it makes no sense. They'll never get it.

I'd say the majority of the fanbase was anticipating a rebuild, and nobody in the entire league was expecting us to actually be buyers at the trade deadline.
Did you expect us to be buyers at the deadline?
I expected our team to get younger and better while giving us some cap flexibility. I don't think we are done yet with moves. I think Boeser is next. I think we've improved with our age and talent.

People keep talking about a true rebuild but can't accept the fact you'd have let Hughes and Petey go. You just don't do that.
