Read that yesterday ........doesn't come across any less stupid here than it did on FB

That's what I thought, but it was presented in such a way that I wondered if I'm not in the minority on this one (or if I'm just straight up wrong).

Alvin has already said he doesn't want to do any buyouts, but I wonder if this is something they've started to actually consider?

Or is it just media/fan conjecture?

I’m not convinced that they wanna put Hughes and Hronek together. We need to have two strong pairings.

That means the right side on Hughes pairing is still wide open. Offer him a tryout there for the rest of the season.

And paired with Hronek next year we see OEL have a stratosphere-shattering rebirth similar to Karlsson's...

We'd better hope he can regain something resembling top 4 form, because we're stuck with him.

    I think so.

I guess there is the buyout possibility, but it feels far-fetched to think our ownership would do that (maybe I'm wrong).

I also recall that within the last couple of months BB said he was probably our best Dman. Now I don't think that's a real argument, but it's also true that he's probably not quite as bad as the torch and pitchfork mobs are squawking about.

So I guess I wonder if he could regain some form if he could have a solid run with a solid Dman on the right side. If he didn't have to be second-guessing whatever Myers was going to do, could he become a decent D with some offensive upside again?

Carlsson and sandin pallikka are unlikely but possible given the two picks we could have... But it makes the lineup look better :P

You could still add Hoglander and Karlsson

I agree that sometimes you need to go for it when it comes to drafting positionally but if the Isles pick stays in the 12-16 range one of these guys will still probably be there.

I'd consider this over drafting another winger if a top ten center isn't available but would prefer the focus be on a centerman with that top pick.

Right - we should get the absolute BPA with the 4th-7th pick and then pick up an RHD with the later one.

It looks to me like Reinbacher should be who we aim for, right?

The other RHD guys seem like they are rated high solely on their offensive abilities.

Steve Simmons is the Tony Gallagher of Toronto sports media.  Jeff Paterson, Sekeras and Price would all be considered saints compared to this guy.

If anyone actually believes this parasite has any credible sources then I have some real nice swamp land I can sell you in Florida...

Exactly, to be honest I don't think I would even place him alongside Gallagher.

And like usual with Leaf guys reporting on Canuck stuff it sounds like they've read a couple headlines and made their own story - Tochhet was first rumoured eight days before he was hired? Really?!

With our track record with task master coaches. I ain't gonna be too worry about a coaching bump. I expect a cratering.

    I have major Torts PTSD.

I thought about that the other night - Bieksa was talking about AV breaking guys down for the first half season- I don’t remember anyone ever saying that before….made me think it was to plant the idea that management is going to take it real slow and back-to-basics this year.

I don’t actually think that Bieksa is a shill or that it would work, but I like the idea of losing out the rest of the season.

I don't like convicted felons with mob ties. Sorry if you think this piece of $#!+ deserves to be treated with respect.

With fuzzy memory of that whole thing and refreshing memories via a simple wikipedia page, I've got a couple thoughts:

Tocchet and Janet Gretzky were running it and Gretzky was just like, 'hey Rick, I heard you were doing a bunch of shady stuff with my wife' ?

I'm the biggest Gretzky fan ever, but he was for sure involved.

So Gretzky didn't even get implicated in order to keep his image clean (even though I now think those gambling ads with McDavid are funny af)

Tocchet had to at least get a slap on the wrist in order to keep Gretz clear, but the other no-name dude got years in prison! He better be getting some payback for taking the fall.

So on the one hand it was legit criminal activity - but on the other hand, nobody even ever mentioned Travis Green's ties to it.

Very weird. Also, who cares (unless you're the family of that poor cop).

Exactly! I am hoping that the era of rushing prospects to the Canucks has ended. Johansson should be in Abby for at least half a season, maybe a full year.

Seems like that era is already over - unless a Dman is really good they have to jump over about a dozen 5-6-7-8 guys it seems.

Wolanin has been gold and hasn't gotten a sniff of a cup of coffee.

This is awesome news though, it would be so good to have a legit top4 RHD who isn't on the downside of his career.

Good point.  Maybe Burkie is just another member of the good ol' boys' club and will do whatever his owner wants?

I dont think so. I think if he takes a job its to be a semi-autonomous wrecking ball. Which would be good.

On the other hand, the mess he made in Toronto is pretty much exactly what has happened here.

They were a lot of the way through a long rebuild when he got pre-maturely excited and started trading high draft picks for old expensive D-men etc

Which is why their re-build has taken about 15 years rather than 7-8.

And where I think we unfortunately found ourselves too.

I really wanted him to succeed on the Canucks. We needed him. Unfortunately, his speed was the only thing of significance. Anytime he had a chance to score, he didn't.

It’s still crazy to me that a guy who has speed, size, toughness?, pedigree etc and can score point per game in the AHL can’t make a dent in the NHL.

If he couldn’t skate that would make sense.

I guess I don’t know hockey and eyes for detail etc like the coaches, but if he got a few games in the top six and some power play time it’s unimaginable to me that he couldn’t get some traction.

OEL would be a lot better if we had a solid 3rd pairing lefty to share the load.  Really not sure why Breezer didn't get a longer look as he played pretty well and showed some good hockey sense in his own zone.

I feel like Dermott can definitely do that if he ever gets back.

And by that point unfortunately the season may be just too far gone if it isn't already.

And agreed, Brisebois seemed decent too.

    Petey sick?

Dermott on 4th line? tbh with his speed and skill he may be a better forward lol, although he is probably just place holding now but if he can take contact maybe this is progress?

I have this thought that he could be another incremental improvement your blue line in the same way Bear has been.

In that dream we’d be inching closer to respectability

Sure, but is that lady classy if she was bullying a person with physical and mental handicaps?  It might be time for our owner to step in and get this resolved behind closed doors.  And if he finds out this lady was cruel, then send her packing.  We don’t need that kind of person.

Physical and mental handicaps are diagnoses she discovered just after her last firing.

She has to rely on ramping up these buzzwords cause her sexism charge isn’t going to land.

Her tweeting mom’s name is literally Karen.

If you were writing a script about all the most obvious excesses of this weird entitlement culture, you’d have to back it off a bit to make it less on the nose.

Why would castagonay be jealous when she was her superior?

Right, she wasn’t jealous at all.

Sounds like she didn’t want to put up with childish antics and wasn’t too worried about the misogyny card being thrown in her face.
