  1. Miller's getting up there, he'll start to decline soon. Then who is the no. 2 centre? Our defence is grim, OEL is done and the Chaos Giraffe is bad. Ownership needs to understand fans would actually like to watch a young team grow into a winner over a few years. At least the goal is the Stanley Cup. This approach of being barely mediocre, with a couple of stars to squeak into the playoffs and lose, isn't working. I'm not looking forward to watching Chicago grow into a Stanley Cup fave.

  2. We've wasted time overplaying our best players in order to win meaningless games and reduce our odds of drafting a good prospect. No one is saying the #11 to #20 players may be good. The point is surely we can improve our odds of getting a high end pick if we don't try our damn best to win games when we're out of the playoffs. This is the opposite of a long term winning strategy. Our depth in young talent is awful, we should be addressing it when it seems like we're ignoring it.

  3. This late season win streak has got to be one of the most self-destructive moves in the Canucks' long history of bad moves. So what did we gain from beating teams clearly tanking and teams preparing for the playoffs? We've pretty much guaranteed we won't daft top ten in a deep draft when we badly need young talent. There's a generational talent at no. 1 but why would we try to increase our odds to get him?

  4. A first AND a second? We're near the bottom of the league. This move might get us in the playoffs but there is no way this team competes for the cup. And that's what some of us have waited decades for. Long term we'll take a bigger cap hit and reduce our odds of being competitive. You never know, but the better odds are to play the long game and develop through the draft.

    It’s not blind support.

I like the hiring of the bench crew.

Actually I love it and think it’ll bring the element of on ice character and attitude we’ve been long desiring.

i also LOVE the Kuz signing.

Such an underrated move already that will reap huge rewards for this club.

I like the support additions that we’ve acquired in guys like Bear for relatively cheap. Yes we have traded picks but we have no other real currency.

that is also changing under this new mgmt group.

I like the decision to be aggressive and utilize the assets that were previously off limits to be liquidated and diversified to build wealth. We absolutely needed to that.

I like that we are obviously choosing to cash in this season and potentially end up with a top 5 pick.

I like that we have now begun the process of addition/subtraction on our D and finally have another legit top 4 Dman who hasn’t been playing above his ceiling. I like that we will start to acquire and roster D men who can eat minutes responsibly and balance out our pairings effectively. I like that we can soon afford to play guys like OEL and Myers further down the roster in positions of lesser responsibility.

i like that mgmt isn’t afraid to really do the dirty work involved in restructuring how this roster is utilized, and more importantly has publicly addressed the issues and how they intend to attack them.

to that end, there absolutely is direction.
it just takes letting go of previous apprehensions and being objective in seeing what is actually happening before your eyes.

this hronek move is one of many to come. I’d say try a little more patience before being so judgemental because this is not the be all end all status quo.

I'm more in the keep the 1st round picks you have and build a team properly camp.

Imagine a bottom tier team trading a 1st for a win now piece.

    It's absurd.

Couldn't agree more, we're nearly last, our prospects list is amongst the worst, and now we trade away the future by giving out first and second round picks in a deep draft. All i can say is there better soon be a trade bringing in picks and prospects or else we're selling the farm on this trade. This trade isn't win now, it's squeak into the playoffs now.

  6. After Petey and Bo there is maybe Hughes, but really that's it. Miller is a disaster signing. We have to stop talking about what it takes to get in the playoffs and focus on what we need to win the cup. Stop trying to retread tired vets and build from the draft for a change.

  7. We won't lose an upcoming draft pick. Our D is mess. He's built like a tree and he can skate. We've got absolutely nothing to lose if we give him a chance. Which means we probably won't give him a chance..... :(

  8. There's not a team in this league that wouldn't want Hughes. We're lucky we have him. He's still finding his way in this league and he's going to be an all-star for years. Play him with a stay at home defenseman. On offence he's doing things most defenseman in this league will never do. Support him and enjoy his high-end talent. Benning made a great draft, now he needs to back up his draft's development.

  9. If Podkolzin turns out as good as everyone says he is, Hoglander is the 200 ft. top six player he looks, and Demko keeps progressing, we're in pretty good shape. But we're hurting for a reliable defenseman or two. Hughes is going to be an all-star for a long time and he's still getting better. And this is only Jolevi's first year. We have a good young core, things will get better, have a beer.

  10. We've been solidly outplayed in almost all our games so far. There are some positives for this team. Every team would like to have Petey and Bo as the 1-2 centres. Hughes is an elite defenseman and Boesser is back and looking good. But four high-end players is a pretty shallow pool. I understand letting Markstrom go had a lot to do with the Kraken potentially picking one of our goalies. But losing an elite goalie when our D is Swiss cheese is not good. But I think Demko will come around.  We've got great young pieces to the puzzle, but we need a few more. Lack of depth and defense is killing us. But I'll still watch, we've gone from being a head on collision to more like a serious fender bender. Slow improvement is at least improvement.

  11. I'm not too worried, Miller will help a lot when he's back. Putting Hoglander on the first line facing McDavid as a 20yr old rookie is quite the tough assignment. He has the tools, he'll do fine and so will Juolevi. They were dropped in the deep end, expect steady improvement. I still think loosing Madden for a short term asset will bite us. He's the prototype two-way forward for the up tempo NHL.  But we have to deal with it. I'm impressed that Calgary could take on Markstrom's salary along with Tanev's, and still keep their core roster. It makes me wonder if we're mishandling salaries. This is a short season, we need to get Miller back fast.

  12. I forgot how negative these boards can be. Relax and try to enjoy the game. McDavid is an exceptional talent and a joy to watch. I say that as a Canuck fan. The play by play man was good. Well informed and pretty smooth. Not too emotional but worked well with DeBrusk. "Break out the sweets" made me smile. One game and it feels like we're tamping down the negativity.
