  1. If we're so concerned with cap room then it has to be Demko. I realize he was average during the season but his playoff performance was so good. In a perfect world we keep both, but Seattle will grab Demko for sure.

  2. Before you start defending Reaves' puck skills, I've definitely seen him mishandle the puck far more than once. Even when he's not under pressure. Not necessarily pure giveaways, but there's a reason he doesn't play more minutes. I'd also wager the players with more giveaways have a lot more ice time. Give him the same time on the ice then compare give aways.

  3. There's no magic bullet. Keep drafting and developing young talent for the long term and the results will come. Yes, it's annoying to watch the Knights thrive, but Pittsburgh gave them an all-star goalie on a platter. I saw our first line outplay the Knight's five on five the whole game. And that's something given the age of our first line. We're still missing a couple pieces, at least. I think Benning is great at the draft; we need a structure to build players from the draft to the NHL. Trying not to stare into the abyss.....There's no magic bullet. 4. I have no problem with Benning's draft record, it's been good in a very competitive business. His trades and player development is a mystery to me. Bringing in Green was a great step in player development. But losing McCann, Dahlen, and Tryamkin were blunders. It's not enough to draft well, the players are assets that should be developed. Several times now Benning's given away too valuable assets for little and signed for too long and too much. Why not keep Benning for scouting director, his strength, and get a manager to handle trades, contracts, and development?

  5. I guess I worry that we're not building from the back end. St. Louis and most of the other teams that went far had good depth at D.  Every year the list of injured D men is almost comical. It will happen again next year, and when it does we will wonder why we decided to stock up on mid level forwards when our D has no depth. Then again, we need depth pretty much everywhere so a potential NHL  player is a good news story, d or forward.

Depending on severity, I would think after the Bishop trade and with this, very well might spell out Miller will not be moved.  Not a chance the Canucks use Bachman to star in goal for us.

We can still trade Miller. Why not use Bachman? It's not like we're going anywhere this year. Pick up some good draft positions and plan for the future.

It would be a tremendous mistake to trade Hutton if not for an awesome return. 25 points for a rookie defender is great... if not for his early slump and injury, he could have matched that and more this season. Hutton's got all the tools and potential to be a 40+ point top 4 D in his prime. He probably won't be the next Karlsson or Weber but good offensive defensemen are always going to be a rare commodity in the NHL.

Juolevi currently looks physically weak in the OHL. I'd say he's at least two years away from genuinely challenging for a spot on the Canucks roster. The amount of strength he's lacking isn't just something he could easily accumulate during one summer.

Hutton has only played a year and a half in the league. He can skate and handle the puck his upside looks great why trade him when we know he'll improve and could improve a lot.

  8. There's too much expectation being placed on an 18 year old kid. If you really want to know what kind of NHL defenseman he'll be talk to me after he's played a couple years in the league. For now, let him learn and grow at his own pace and offer him some bloody support. He's a Canuck prospect now, let's cheer for him.

Im not concerned about Juolevi, but I dont have #1 D expectations of him.   He's going to be all situation, minute munching, mobile, and cerebral d-man with some offensive upside and good puck movement.  H'e not going to challenge for a Norris trophy, or lead NHL dmen in scoring.  But he WILL become a valuable piece to the puzzle.  At this point I have him somewhere between 1st and 2nd pairing quality.  Think Anton Stralman, Ryan Ellis, Ryan McDonagh, Olli Maata territory.   There might be a bit more offensive potential, but that'll greatly rely on his surrounding teammates skill level.

Very much how I see him. A valuable top four well-suited to the modern style of game,  but not necessarily a game breaker. We'll have that when we draft Dahlin :)

  10. It's a good sign MT is doing well, but what's his ceiling long term. I still think a top four D man is more valuable than a top six forward . Everyone knows a high end d takes longer to develop.

  11. High level top two defenders are the hardest to find/develop. OJ is worth the long  term investment. More valuable than a top 6 forward. We still lack the high end défense to challenge for the cup and it should continue to be a priority until we do. Time will tell with OJ but it looks promising
