I could definitely see this happening.  TO would want to dump Marleau on us too, if he would waive to come here.

we could take him on for his last year, and would take the 2020 2nd rounder back. we have the room.

makes sense for both teams, since there are positives and negatives on both sides, as i would hate to see us give up on Jake, but we need a top line forward now to support EP and Brock.

Man, this is an excellent post.

I don't think we need to sign an LHD unless it's Edler or one of those defensive defencemen on a shorter term deal.

With Hughes to be the main guy and Juolevi in the pipeline, there is no space for Gardiner, beyond maybe next season. Gardiner will want term and as soon as Juolevi makes the team, we will be regretting signing Gardiner. Assuming Karlsson is unattainable, I'd first try to re-sign Edler to 3-year (at most 4 years) deal because he brings solid defence as well as decent offence and in the last year (or two) of his contract, he will be a 3rd pairing defenceman playing a responsible game on the defensive side. Concurrently, I would target Myers as he is basically Edler but on the right side. I don't know what JB's plan is on the RHD if we don't sign say Myers. Nothing in the pipeline and not many assets to trade to attain a quality RHD.

    Hughes-Myers

    Edler-Tanev

    Hutton-Stecher

    Schenn

Then, once Juloevi makes the team and say we bring Tryamkin back,

    Hughes-Tryamkin

    Juolevi-Myers

    Edler-Stecher

    I like that final scenario.

You  have 2 experienced guys to bring a balanced D and O. Hughes will hopefully be our Krug and log big offensive minutes while Juolevi can run the 2nd PP or swap out with Edler.

The only concern would be cap space signing both Edler and Myers to say 7M contracts, and then Hughes, Tram and Juolevi contracts coming up soon after.

It could put us over the 30M mark for defense which would put us in a crunch position, but our D could be top 5 when the kids get a couple years under their belts.

Could see Stecher traded for a low cost RD as 3rd pairing guy to hang on to the rest.

  3. It's a tough scenario having a 33 YO having his best year since he signed his last contract.

We have to base the contract on his last 3 years and project a decline in the next 3.

    Pros

    1. quiet but well respected leader on and off the ice, can bring the kids along better then any other Dman

    2. Has shored up his defensive game compared to 3 years ago

    3. when he's in the line up winning % take a spike for the better

    4. 2018-19 again best year for 5 atleast and coincidentally with Sedins gone-

    5. has offensive/PP support this year from Hughes, maybe Juolevi by mid season and hopefully a true top 4 UFA signing

    Cons

    1. injury prone - can count on 20 games missed per year minimum. Cannot log the heavy minutes anymore especially if we're playoff bound

    2. Decline should start this year and carry on somewhat like the Sedins

    3. Getting paid like a top 2 where he really is a top 4 on a decent team

Thinking 6.5M over 3 years NMC would be about right considering the facts.

if 4 years is the only option we should walk and use the money to sign Myers etc..

  4. There is no way Lucic is part of our plan, unless Puljujarvi comes with him, and even that is a stretch.

After this years bonus Eriksson costs 9M for the last three seasons. He tallied 29P on a year where he spent half of it on the fourth line. He was one of the top PK'rs in the NHL and one of our most trusted forwards defensively.

Ladies and gentlemen, you can have all of this for a paltry 3M per season after bonus paid.

That folks is a fair deal!

Sell him without taking garbage back Jim, I know you can!

  5. Hated team, has to be 2011 Bruins and close behind 1994 Rangers

Bruins used to be my #2 behind the Canucks and quickly slipped to #30 on that list for all reasons above.

Opposing player- The Rat and The Buff,

Marchand for being himself and Byfuglien for being in Lou's face and making Canucks Defense life H#ll try to move that SOB away from our net.

Dis-honourable mention goes to Lucic- so happy his contract is worse than Erikssons.

ex Canuck- Messier for doing serious damage to our team, showing zero leadership, screwing over Linden and walking away only to be recognized as one of the greatest leaders of all time. (BS)

    ahhhh.... feel better  now.:)

  6. We get a Middle 6 winger for a bottom 6 D man.

I really liked Pearson in LA and at the time they had a deep forward team.

Here we dont have depth in that position especially with question mark on both Goldy and Baer, so he'll fit nicely as a 200' player with offensive upside.

Guddy was intimidating, the one thing that will really be missed.

I predict Luke Schenn will step in for 800K / year and probably play a better defensive game.

Goes without saying that we will be signing a top 4 RD in the summer for 5M +  (or we better anyway) Jet Woo will not be ready for a couple years.

    Edler - Tanev

    Hughes- 5M+ RD

    Hutton- Stech

    Juolevi- another signing

What makes anyone think expansion would be a concern regarding Gaudette anyways? Just protect him. Are people worried about losing Eriksson, Sutter, etc...? The expansion draft will be a blessing as far as losing one of our older under-performing players.

    etc.... must = Gagner

  8. This is a great reference for Canuck's stats. Excellent work here!

So many stand out as a surprise, but the Dan Cloutier's Save% and  wins gets my attention, since i remember nothing but criticism with Cloutier's play including myself.

  9. Would be something to see him in the Olympics!

Just talked with #Canucks prospect Elias Pettersson in Sweden about racking up the points, being tied for 1st in SHL scoring as a rookie and the Olympics.

Pettersson on being on the Swedish Olympic radar, "I am surprised, I sent my info to them a few weeks back. Would be dream come true to play in the Olympics for your country."

Pettersson on if he is surprised at his point production as a 1st year player, "Yes I am surprised, it is a tough league but things are going well for me."

Pettersson are being tied for the SHL scoring lead : "Very cool, I try my best every game. I play on a great team with great coaching, the bunces are going my way lately."

  10. Granlund isn't your prototypical 4th line centre as discussed so how about this line up

    sedin- sedin - hansen

    Baertchi -horvat -Eriksson

    Etem - Granlund - Sutter

    Burrows - gaunce - dorsett

Granlund and Etem had a bit of chemistry. Granlund and Sutter would take faceoffs on their good sides. gets him on the 3rd line with some talent and needed size.

4th is still a decent shutdown, physical line.
