  1. Craig Button rated his IQ as 3/5....

    But thats just him

Button is also the guy that signed Turek to that completely retarded contract that ruined both their careers.

Please be careful on your views here, we are not completely mis informed DOWN here , some of us love this team and love this game with a passion

If you could get the government to disable DOWNUNDACANUCK's internet you would go a long way to imporving that viewpoint.

  2. I didn't say he needs to go back to junior to perfect his defensive game. The OP I responded to seemed to think Bo had great offensive potential, in which case it's better to let him go back to London and realize those offensive potential playing top minutes rather than play a limited role on the 4th line in Vancouver.

If Bo goes back this year, it's not going to make him better defensively next year or get him any more ready for the NHL in terms of defense. Those little plays, like you say, can only be learned at the pro level. The only reason we should send Bo back is if there is more offense in his game that could blossom playing top minutes in London rather than 4th line minutes in Vancouver.

Going back would basically set Bo back a year on getting acclimated to NHL speed, but at the same time, if going back to junior for another year means his offense reaches a ceiling it never would if he stayed on a 4th line role here, I would say it's worth it in the long run. Besides, he would only need a few games to catch up to game speed next season if he made the jump then instead of now. It would be a minute difference, if any.

I don't have the answer. That being said, I think Bo has more offense that he can realize in junior, but at the same time, it's tempting to keep him since he seems like he just needs a few games to get acclimated to the NHL and be good enough to play a 4th line role. It's going to be a tough decision for management to make - whether keeping Bo at age 19 or sending Bo back is good for the long term. I think he'll get a few games as well. It would certainly make the season more exciting if Bo made the team.

    Terrific post +1.

Like you said I think it's basically a toss up and personal preference of the management I think.

Do they really think they have a chance to do some damage this year and does that weigh into the decision? Can we afford to let him play in the NHL just to see what happens, or is management going to play things very conservative in the next couple years and just keep building until the team reflects more of Trevor and Jim's vision?

As you mentioned he can definitely hone his offensive game at the junior level. After getting some serious NHL training camp and game action he will most likely be supremely confident in his fourth junior year. 100 point clip wouldn't surprise me and could be a huge stepping stone. If he stays with the team the steep learning curve starts now.

  3. It's it just me or are there no black kickers or punters?

It's a rich white kid's job? Who joins the team and decides, "hey I want to be the kicker".

Coming from a rugby player I find it comical that they actually have a position for a guy that just kicks the ball. Then again they have about 65 players on a team.

  4. AHA, I just remembered I live in Calgary ... I always try to forget. :)

But the perk to that is that we have excellent tickets behind the bench for the Hitmen, and we get the box every second game ... of course every one clambers on about the Flames and the Hitmen tickets go unused for the most part.

Not this year, me thinks I'll be watching me a lot of Virtanen ... I may have extra tickets each game. This should be fun.

  5. what is this, @midnight?

    ok, I'll bite.

    Old School Racism

    The Eternal Hangover

    The Little Mermaid Brothel

    The Godfather's Accountant

    Pulp Non Fiction

Xbox One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest

    Porn Star Wars

Actually that last one sounds not bad. :)

  6. It's really a big draft. From about 1-20 you'll likely going to get a top line player.

So ... there are going to be like 12 first liners and 4 top 2 dmen?

  7. Luck will be on that list soon. But my point was that there's not many qbs ahead of him.

Do really honestly believe that? lol

    Stafford

    RGIII

    Wilson

    Rothliesberger

    Smith

    Luck

    Newton

    Ryan

    Dalton

    Manning

Heck even Palmer, and Rivers could have a case made. He went on a great run but he's not a legendary quarterback and he is absolutely horrible on the road.

  8. I expect positioning for the 2015 draft will dominate a lot of thinking in the 2014-15 season. By the March trade deadline a lot of teams will know whether they are contenders or not.

I saw Benning's biggest challenge when hired as the conversion of the Canuck vets into draft pics and prospects. The level of talent and the depth of talent in the 2015 draft might lessen the conversion value as many teams will jockey for picks. I fully expect some teams to 'tank' early, trade what they can, and play their youth. I can only hope Van is part of that group. It might take another losing year to convince some NTC players to waive for a trade to a contender. Since Linden and Benning are new hires they have a level of creditability with management and fans that will allow them to do this. In another year the boo birds will be in action.

The race to the bottom will be led by the TO Laffers. Hopefully Van can draft in the top 5 picks. Play all the young AHL aged players in Utica and create a winning attitude there.

It seems to me that people are really over-valuing the 2015 draft as if there are hundreds and hundreds of players far better than most players coming out of the draft in last decade. While there may be a couple of high profile players it's a draft just like any other year.

  9. Well Morrisey and Lazar aren't on the same team as Horvat. Reinhart was the captain of his team but i suppose team 2 would have a different captain.

I thought Morrisey was horrible at the WJC last year. Did not like his game at all.

  10. I find it funny when everyone rushes to slap a label on an 18 year old kid and try and compare him to NHL players.

That assumes that he's not going to develop any more aspects to his game and stay the exact same player. If that happens, then the Canucks didn't do a very good job of developing him.

He's fast, he can shoot the puck, and he plays with an edge. Guess what? That describes hundreds of players, past and present. Trying to narow it down to one and put a ceiling on the guy at 18 is just pointless. Why can't he just be Virtanen and leave it at that?

    NO HE'S TORRES

  11. I don't really know. Scouting CHL team prospects is just a little over my head. Interesting notion though, I would love to see Virtanen get traded to a contender. That being said, I am fairly certain that Jordan Subban will be leaving the Bulls this year to go to a contender.

I live in Calgary and the team has been flip flopping back and forth a bit. After being on the top for a number of years they were horrible in 2011-12 and rebounded with 2 solid years. Now they are seriously depeleted I expect them to compete for last place again and I would say there is a pretty good chance one of the two or both get traded during the year.

Ferraro "if you're going to sign R.Miller for 3 years $16 why not approach Cam Ward because contract is less and shorter?"
This. I like Ward more than Miller.

Absolutely a better way to go I think, unless Miller is happy with about $5 m/year over 2 or 3 years. It seems like he likes the idea of Vancouver though.
