Aren't they just tying their hands? Now they must trade Nylander lol. Should still be able to get fair and very good value from him though.

They can't take any cap back, so it will make a trade tough for them. A team that has the cap space won't want to give up their draft capital or their prospects. And teams that are willing to give those up won't have the room to take on his full cap hit without giving cap back.

They might be able to facilitate a 3 way trade where they give a team a pick or so to take on 50% of his cap hit. Then a team that is competing might be able to fit him in.

Someone posted in another thread that he has another 2 GP before he's a waivers risk...but I'm not seeing any reference to it on Capfriendly.

Hogs isn't waiver exempt due to age and years in the league.

He's been in the league for 3 years, and signed his first contract when he was 19, but since he turned 20 before Dec 31st of that year, he was deemed to be a 20 year old. A player who signs at 20, is only exempt for 3 years, so last season was Hogs last exempt year.

Here’s a thought, maybe he’s not actually that good?

Other teams aren’t looking into him because there’s still actual NHL players that can be signed. This is the only place people actually talk about him.

Bingo. There's a reason he's not signed, and it's not because he's weighing all his options.

It's funny, I know Nylander has the smallest cap it. He's also a bit of a flake, and a bit of a floater. But ironically he's one of the few of the big 4 that actually shows up in the Playoffs.

Yep, he wouldn't be the guy I would want to trade if he was on my team. I'd honestly choose Marner, but because of his NMC he's not going anywhere.

It'll cost them.  Unlike Murray (negative value), Nylander is coming off a career year and a solid postseason effort.  In a typical market he would be worth a lot.  But right now?  Toronto is over the cap.  Teams aren't going to make great offers anymore.  Why didn't Treliving try to trade him earlier?

Definitely seems like they've put themselves in a bad place, rather than doing something with one of the big 4 earlier. And I don't even think just Nylander going will get them under the cap.

Also they will want zero cap coming back, so that drops the teams able to trade for him substantially, and those teams won't want to give up futures or picks.

No cap relief in the foreseeable future.  The entire cap increase next year will be taken up by Petterson’s raise.  Hronek and Podkolzin raises, plus finding an other 3rd pairing D to replace Myers

takes up all the Myers freed up money.

We then start hitting the bigger OEL penalty, so that will eliminate most or all of the benefit of cap increases for those years.

While Petey is definitely in for a big raise, that will take up the majority of the Cap increase. Podz is not due for much of a raise at all, unless he takes a huge step this year. Hronek will take about 2-3m of Myers cap coming off the books.

So we will still have 6-7m+ to play with easily after this season for next year.

But yeah, 25-26 and 26-27 where we have a $4.76m cap hit, that's going to hurt bad.

  7. I'm heading to Van for the week of July 10-14th for work. Thinking of hitting the Whitecaps game on the 12th vs Austin FC. I've never been to a Whitecaps game before, only games in England. Was thinking of getting tickets for the Southsiders section, is grabbing a seat in that section the best or purchasing a GA ticket?

Also any other recommendations for getting the most out of the game?

I'd sure like to see Myers playing playoff hockey for us, though. Felt the same way with Guddy back when we had him.  Big D, willing to play tough, and with the whistles stashed a bit, can be quite valuable then.

But, that means putting up with the warts during the regular season.

Wasn't Myers decent (or even better than decent) back in the bubble?

I don't hate Myers at all, and think he's actually a good d-man. He's just overpaid for what he is, and when he's relied on too heavily the gaffs start showing up and he starts trying to do too much. If Myers was paid 4m, I don't think the team would be trying to replace him.

I know it won’t be popular but I got a feeling we’re gonna sign Dumba to a 1 year cheap deal in the hopes he can cash in next offseason.

Say what you want about him he’s a legit top 4. And we need another one.

I am also starting to feel like this is going to happen. I feel like we are trying to get rid of Myers and will sign Dumba for 1 or 2 years on the cheap(3-4m/yr)

Free agency doesnt make sense to me

Home boy put up 142 points in his last 149 games and gets a 1 year deal at 3million. Why so low?

He just got a big chunk of money from being bought out. Take a low salary this year and play for a contender with the chance to win the cup. Makes a lot of sense for him.

    I don’t know about that.

Vancouver is a top city to live in when you are a millionaire. No extreme weather either.

Canucks are also a better team than the Preds. More likely to make the playoffs.

Less tax in Nashville, would take home $600k a year less in BC on that salary than in Nashville.

But it's very possible he had no desire to come to Vancouver, not everyone wants to move there.
