I doubt any team would have given him a 4 year deal. The AAV is low but he got $12 million in money.

Teams would have definitely given him 4 years. He hasn't shown any real sign of decline, and is still one of the best 3rd line centers in the league. Even if in 2 years he was slowing down, he would still be a good 4th line guy who play PK but wouldn't be used in any offensive situations. Teams close to a cup would have given him 4x3.5-4 a year on the open market.

$2.9 million sets the market. A guy like Bjugstad should be available for $2-2.5 million.  He’d be my first choice for 3C.

i wish it set the market, but it doesn't. Staal took a home town discount for sure, he would have got more on the open market by a couple of million but decided to stay on a team he likes and is contending. Took less so the team can hopefully bring in some more help.

2.1 million is the difference between a quality backup goalie and what was iced last season.  It matters.

Yep, playing with dead cap is never a "It doesn't matter" situation. That's a good 3rd liner at 2.1m, or as you say a good back up or good 3rd pair D.

The cap goes up, so does everyone's salaries, the 2.1m is still going to hurt the team. And that's not including the years of over 4m cap hit, that will really hurt the team.

NYI has been trying to trade him for quite some time.  Doubt teams fall for points in garbage time when there's no pressure.  Also coaching change in Vancouver + a rather soft schedule to end the season.

I honestly don't think the Canucks want to move him at all. I think they would rather move other players before they move Beau, and I do not see them buying him out for his final year while he is still a productive piece and only has one year left. It really gets them no where.

The difference is he is not covering this team.

If he does cover this team, and discovers a story or trouble on the Canucks, he could risk Cammi's job by saying anything.- or he doesn't say anything and deprives the fans of important news.

Given a choice of depriving fans of info, or being responsible for getting your wife fired- which one would you pick?

Well doing colour and being an insider are two different jobs.

I would assume if Ray takes this job, he will no longer classify himself as an insider and won't be breaking any news about the team or any other team. You don't expect Shorthouse and didn't expect Garrett to break any news, Ray would be no different.

  6. Ernst needs to wake up... He's been really shaky this whole tournament.

He's come up with some big saves, but he's let such bad rebounds out and had a hard time controlling really soft shots and is losing the puck. Oh how I wish the Rangers had sent Garand back down this year...

Stankoven should have defended his teammate. He watched. He’s a Smurf. It’s clear why he got passed over. Blazer get KOd. Did nothing. Unless whining to the ref counts.

Your hate for Stankoven is super strange..

Bankier had already dropped the gloves for the hit on Seminoff, if Stankoven did anything he would have gotten tossed from the game... I honestly don't think you've ever watched Stankoven, or the Blazers other than this tournament.

Too funny! Blazer gets destroyed on a clean hit and then his teammate gets KOd sticking up for him. And Stinkoven watches! So glad we didn’t draft that guy.

So Stankoven should've been the 3rd man in and got ejected from the game? That would've been really dumb of him.
