I agree, though I can't say they're making "bad" calls.  After such a great game, with good flow, on Wednesday I can't figure out why they'd officiate a game this way tonight.

Fans complain sometimes about letting things go more in the playoffs, but for the playoffs, that's the kind of reffing I like.  Let them play ffs unless its egregious.

  2. Some nice draft picks playing in this game that a "draft guru" probably would never miss out on, or trade away right away.

    Tkachuk

    Forsling

    McAvoy

I know, I know, all teams have their misses. But dang. How many teams did Benning help out with their depth, while depleting our own of depth.

    Andersson

    McCann

    Chatfield

    ?

IBF  let it go...let it go...

Kind of lost me when you said "give their fans one more reason to laugh at us ".    The victim culture within our fanbase needs to be cut out like a ripe old boil.    Most of the country would be happy to or kill to he born and raised in BC.    Every single person i've met since moving to Ontario, has asked why (it's my wife's family - her turn to be close to her side, plus I retired)  ... people here fawn over the idea of spending their hard earned cash for a week on Vancouver Island.    Or the lower mainland or the interior.   They don't laugh at us they actually loved us during 2011 - i moved in 2009, the city was humming for the Canucks in 2011 same with MTL.    Maybe switch your perspective somewhat on that.   It was media driven.    Of course Cherry was rooting for Boston.   Totally understandable, but he also dressed in our colours a ton during our run.   Personally i've always hated the entitlement and bitchy whiny Canuck fans that have this angle about "everyone hates us - we don't care" attitude.    Same people that rioted i'm sure.   Mommies and Daddies money isn't good enough for them i suppose.  Or just pissy because they can't afford to live where mommy and daddy raised them or something.    It's a privilege to live in BC.    Or maybe i do get it.   Laughing at us because we are so whinny?

Actually I agree with you. I was being a bit facetious in response to another post.  I was saying I don't care about other Canadians cheering for us, as I don't cheer for their teams either. If they do....great!  But its not important to me. I don't understand this desire for ANY Canadian team to win over any American team. Given that teams are made up with most players from Canada no matter where. St Louis had the most amount of Canadians on it when they won. And so that its the cities fans' that we are really cheering for.  Why?

I was merely thinking out loud, playing Devil's advocate, about any other reason someone may want a Canadian team other than the Canucks to win.  And I just think IF Toronto, or Edmonton, did win it this year, I'm sure some of their fans would rub it in every time they got. So be careful what you wish for.

And yeah, McBackup said it in a reply  My reference was strictly about hockey fans and success at hockey...from Canadian cities that have won the Cup, and if they win it again....can have one more reason to laugh at our futility.  You raised a good point in that they probably laugh more because they are secretly bitter and envious of where we live. There's a difference between cheering....or at least not hating on....another Canadian city's team for two weeks of the SCF, and an ongoing respect or lack of respect, decades long, from fans and media and their bias towards teams that have not won a Cup yet.  I agree they don't "hate" us, but pity is even worse.  So why would anyone want Toronto or Edmonton to win again before we did?  Just to say the Cup is in Canada now?  (Even though at least half will be showing it off in their home cities  in other countries)

It is getting to the point where Canada as a whole not having a team win a Cup is not only embarrassing but bordering on statistically impossible.

It has been something like 28 seasons in a row and 25% of the league's teams being Canadian, give or take depending on the year.  The odds of no Canadian team winning the Cup for 28 straight years if you were placing a bet after the 1993 playoffs is something along the lines of 0.75^28 or about one in 3,000.  There was something like a 2999 in 3000 chance that at least one Cup would be won by a Canadian team and it didn't happen and still hasn't.  It is getting ridiculous.

Ah. that's a third option I hadn't thought about. So its some kind of national embarrassment?  That other countries like Sweden, or even a US fan, look at North American hockey and always hear that its a US city that won the Stanley Cup...again, and wonder why.  They may think like that, but personally I just don't think the Canadian / American rivalry has much to do with the Stanley Cup.

I wasn't that upset that other Canadian hockey fans were not rabidly cheering for us to go all the way in '11.  I wouldn't if I were them.  And I'm not about to jump on the Coiler or Laffs bandwagon just to watch them win and give their fans one more reason to laugh at us.  I won't hate it or love it if one of them wins again. I just want to watch great playoff hockey. With mostly Canadian players. That is my source of pride with the game. In fact, between you and me, keep this on the down low, but I want to see McDavid work his magic. I don't necessarily want the Coilers to advance, and I'm not going to cheer for their fans to have a reason to gloat, but I want McDavid to advance. All for my selfish viewing pleasure.

Of course this kind of parsing I wish I didn't have to even debate.  If the Canucks were in the playoffs this would all be moooooooooooot. And we could hate every other contender, no matter where their home arena is.  One day, right?

yes, Canada should be winning stanley cups.

    No way.

Because its not "Canada" that wins the Stanley Cup, its the team players and coaches that do from that franchise.

So if you were going to cheer for Canadians to win, you'd cheer on the team with the most Canadians on it.  I believe that St. Louis was the team that had the most percentage of Canadians on it when they won so.......yahhhhhhhh

But if its not about which team players represent Canada the best,, then what is it about?  Some could argue that its not the players you cheer for, its the city itself. Its for the pride of bringing the Cup "home" to a Canadian city.....any Canadian city will do.

But lets break that down. With this viewpoint, if you aren't cheering for the players Canadianism, then you are mostly cheering for the fans of that team in that city.  You are saying you'd rather watch, say, Calgary, or Edmonton, or Toronto fans be able to have a big party and brag online how they are fans of a Canadian based championship team....unlike YOU.  Why would I want that? And why is that so much better than watching an American city's fans celebrate? Unless perhaps I grew up in another Canadian city and moved to Vancouver or another NHL Canadian city, you'd have an excuse. But I've never understood why a Canucks fan would cheer for another Canadian fan base to be able to celebrate a Cup win...again, while we wait.  That, or watching Ottawa or Winnipeg win their first before us.

Sorry, but I'm not hoping to watch some big dumb Laffs fan parade around Young Street with his face painted blue screaming about how they are #1 in Canada.  In some ways, it would hurt more to watch yet another Canadian city winning before we get our first Cup, than watching another Yankee city's fans celebrate a Cup win.

I admit it. I was happy, as a Canadian hockey fan, that MacKinnon was able to win a Cup last season. Just like I was for Stamkos the first time Tampa won the Cup.  And most teams in the playoffs I can find at least one BC born player on them to cheer for. That's enough for me.  Although I really don't cheer for any team to win now. After decades of futility here, its getting harder and harder each season to watch another team hoist the Cup, no matter who it is.

I want Seattle to win. Seattle vs Vancouver will become an event. Seattle is showing how to team build in a big way. Their puck support last night was more than solid.

Yeah, why not?  I'm cheering them on too.  I love Seattle the city.

    For now.

No need to hate on them before we have to.  Might as well be happy for them and their fans this season.

But I also can't wait until there are no pro Seattle posts in here. When we are playing them in a playoff round and the Krakheads are our enemies. A close, northwest rival.  Its what we've wanted for a long time.

Shorty & Cheech nailed the call on this one too. They should've been doing playoffs years ago.

What the $%^& does Subway have to do with this?

I know we just gloss over this and our brains just accept it after a while, but ffs, in my lifetime the commercialization of EVERYTHING is so insidious. AM sports radio is almost impossible to listen to.
