I've been to Tokyo several times and the pollution is not bad at all. I believe they wear masks whenever they are sick to prevent the spread of the germs.
Could be, I know that I was seeing them more then ever during the SARS scare. I just seem them so often still that I assume it's a pollution thing.

CNN reporting right now that a small amount of Cesium has seeped out of the plant.

A few random thoughts after watching all the news videos:-How come so many people wear face masks in Japan?-Why did the clerks in the store try to hold on the shelves to stop them from crashing to the floor? I would run like hell and who cares if the stuff falls to the ground. What is more important, your life or a bunch of goods? And what is with the number 11? 9/11 happened on the eleventh of September. Today is the eleventh of March in the YEAR of 2011.
From what I understand, it's because the air quality is so bad. There is much much more air pollution there than there is in north America. What I wonder about is why they wear them here too. I often see them in Richmond or downtown. Maybe they are used to wearing them their whole lives? Maybe they feel the air quality here is bad as well ?

As far as I know it works as so The Japanese earth quake was an 8.9 and San Fran a 6.9
I believe its a logarithmic scale so [(10^8.9)/(10^6.9)}=100 so the Japanese earth quake was a hundred times greater than that of San Francisco.
Ok, thanks for the math ! I knew it wasn't a case of a 6 being twice as powerful as a 3, but couldn't remember how it worked.

It's definitely a scaring me with what living on an island. Is this area as bad as San Fran?
San Fran in 1989 measured 6.9. I'm not sure how it equates to how many time stronger Japan was, maybe someone can fill me in, but the Japan one would be much, much stronger.

Man this is scarying the crap out of me now , its not 2012 anymore its 2011 !!
I was actually shown a different calendar that puts the end of the world on October 28th, 2011. Here's the calendar, it's not as good as the one I was shown, but I'll post this for now and do some more research.
Didn't realize it, but that IS the mayan calendar showing the world ending this year.

Good question.
Is there any press agencies we can follow live,CNN perhaps???
I've been watching CNN for hours now, and there's NOTHING new from this morning. I guess it's good that nothings happening, but I keep watching the same videos over and over.
-
Amazing the difference 60 years makes. 60 years ago they were trying to kill them with it and now they are helping them make sure they aren't killed by it (well them, and the rest of the world.).

Whoa, this current video CNN is playing is crazy.
When the refinery blew up, it shot purple beams straight up.
Are you sure that isn't just glare ?

yet there are tards typing dumb stuff in the comments dismissing her video
At one point in the video she scrolls through that thingie of the universe and how the planets line up. She stopped at the 10th for a couple seconds then moved to the 11th and said "See here, it's lines up perfectly to last years Chili earthquake". That part gave me the creeps.

First Darwinian award goes to:
"The man was swept away after he and two friends reportedly traveled to the shoreline to take photos of the incoming tsunami waves"
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42024659/ns/world_news-asiapacific/
I made this comment this morning. They showed people lined up on the San Diego pier beach with cameras.

Anyone watching CNN right now? Silly Americans in Cali lining the beaches with cameras

7 foot waves hit Hawaii in the middle of the night.

What channel is that on Bell Satellite if you know by chance, or anyone?
No idea. It's 215 on Shaw in Richmond for anyone on that carrier.
-
CNN right now has a live camera of the west coast. They don't specify where, but say a Tsunami will hit there soon.
-
8.9.. Massive Tsunami ... Were going to be looking at 10s of thousands dead...
The 2004 boxing day Tsunami killed 230,000. The difference is, Japan is Tsunami ready and Thailand and surrounding areas weren't so I doubt we'll see that many. There will be a huge amount of life lost though.

Well, here it is. Post #30,000. What better way to celebrate than posting it in the thread honouring my favorite Canuck. Clutch, I want to thank you for making this day possible. Without you, I would have had no where to post every time the player born in the same hospital as I was does something amazing. I'll have tears of joy in my eyes this June when we see Burrows hoist the Holy Grail over his head.

Is it snowing anywhere in Vancouver? The weather network says flurries today and tomorrow, but none at UBC and East Van all day
Nothing in Richmond.

What do I need to do to post a picture on here? I woke up this morning to a lot of snow and it looks amazing. Want to post a picture to share with all of you

CNN reporting that the evacuation zone from the plant is 20 KMS, but nothing else really. They don't seem too concerned, but maybe the authorities are telling us everything to eliminate mass panic.
