  1. haha yes good luck trying to get the public to support spending the kind of money that would cost on birds. Also, they've been flying up and down this coast for thousands of years, we need to start respecting that kind of thing instead of just paving it over or moving it. It's like at my work, the developer proposes some horrible crap subdivision, and part of their application is to relocate a stream. They promise to plants lots of plants and trees and whatever. But the fact that you're moving a stream, a stream that naturally developed there and artificially changing it...well, guess what happens 9 times out of 10.
  2. This is a horrible idea. We've already paved over a significant portion of the Pacific flyway, a major stop for migrating birds from Alaska to South America. A runway into the ocean? Horrible idea.
  3. Why do I bother with you guys? I don't hate the airport or anything else. It's the principal, the idea that annoys me. Do I need to spell it out for you guys in smaller words? I don't know how else to say this. Now if this money is going to Translink, as that previous poster suggested then that makes even less sense. I know! That's why this fee is an 'extra' fee. Just like the next 'fee' will be extra. It's like you guys enjoy paying extra fees. Am I the only one who thinks an extra 2 bucks or whatever to go 3 stops (2 of which 95% of the pop will never use) is excessive?
  4. Right well I guess they bank on people like you with apathetic attitude, and apparently they are right in doing so. 2 dollar fee here, 3 dollar surcharge here, 5 dollars here, all the sudden you're talking about a lot of money. You sound like a real life version of that ad for that bank where they jokingly comment on how they love bank fees. Only you're not joking.
  5. It is an extra fee. It's an extra I tolerate, but not when I am then charged an extra fee to use something that just got built with the extra fee I already paid! It only started fairly recently, how did the airport run prior to the fee? On fairy dust?
  6. You guys are missing my point, I'm not arguing that it's cheaper or more expensive or park or skytrain or whatever. I'm simply saying the fact that they are charging us an EXTRA fee, for something we've already paid for through an EXTRA fee is ridiculous. And why I would not be surprised in the slightest if they tolled the bridges to the airport, collected that money, built something new and then charged another extra fee to use that same thing we just paid for. Like I said, they've already scammed us twice, why stop now?
  7. Well for starters I would do what most other major cities do and get rid of this stupid zone system. It's already retarded that it costs more to go from River Rock to Marpole than it does to go from Langley to Tswwassen. There's no easy answer to your question assuming we have these zones.
  8. No, the same fare as the rest of the line. We are paying for the Canada Line. The Canada Line costs x amount of dollars. We are paying for the airport extension. The airport extension costs y amount of dollars. I just want x and y to be the same. IF the airport extension were different somehow (faster being the obvious example), then I would understand the extra fee. Oh and here's the news story http://www2.canada.com/richmondnews/news/s...0f-3cd78c6b9f6f It conveniently ends with this: "It's unclear how much it cost to build the Sea Island section of the line and how much of a funding shortfall there is". Unclear how much it costs? Shouldn't these people know how much they are spending? No, of course not, just charge a fee to the user and voila, problem solved.
  9. No, can you? I will look but I'm sure YVR keeps those kind of numbers quite secret. But I'm willing to bet at least some was. And that's too much. It's like if they charged drivers an extra $5.00 to drive Hwy 1, saying it was for highway improvements (this is all on top of current taxes of course). Then take that money, build a bridge, and then charge a toll on that bridge. You think that's fair? I don't have a huge issue with paying the AIF, and seeing that money go into airport improvements, skytrain, things like that. But to then charge us extra to use the things we've already paid for....that's just a screw job.
  10. I never said it was the only thing the money was spent on. But the fact that they took our money to build something and then charge us extra for the privilege of using it...you don't see the screw job there?
  11. Right, they are spending it on the skytrain which they are in turn charging an extra fee to use. It's still a screw job.
  12. They put on the airport improvement fee and that didn't slow anything down. They then used that money (partially) to build the new skytrain and are now gonna charge extra to use that same skytrain, I'm sure that won't slow traffic down. Based on their track record I'd say a toll on the bridges is a sure thing. Then they'll probably take that money from us, use it to expand a runway or something, then charge another fee to use it. We've been suckered twice now, why not a third time?
  13. I lived in Seoul, Tokyo and a few other cities in Asia. There are some stinky people in any culture. Although they do keep their trains well ventilated...they have to with the heat in the summer.
  14. No. If your car is at home, it won't accrue wear and tear. You must be young. No. You're much more likely to get in an accident in a single occupancy car. That attitude is why we're all breathing that same air.
  15. No way you can park all day for 5-6 bucks unless you park once in an inconvenient lot and never move. Also assuming you give no monetary value to your time, stress from driving or health from sitting in traffic. Also, there is the risk of accident that is much higher, and the cost of increased wear and tear on your car. Then, sure, it's worth it.
  16. I really hope they do something with those interiors....the blank walls in the entrances and walls covered in ads off the platforms...so amateur and boring.
  17. Hmmm...sounds weird. I worked at the Saegeumjeong public school. I was never placed there though... Good school, smart kids. Hot co-teacher.
  18. kyopo is a korean who was adopted by american/canadian parents and goes back. i knew several of them while there. what kind of school is it? sound shady if they are 'placing' you....
  19. You're kyopo? What areas are you looking at?
  20. Well if you're white I assume teach English. Where in Seoul will you be? I was there for two years and loved it.
  21. http://www.wildernesscommittee.org/sites/a...nn_report_2.pdf A report on the feasiblity of the Port Mann bridge. It is just one report of many, but interesting nonetheless.
  22. Yes sir. 'Oh we're green and we love the environment.' 'Great so give us some money to build skytrain lines, expand bus service, build bike routes, etc..' 'Screw that! We need to build more highways!'
  23. Wow, I'm sure glad we got these expensive *experts* to run Translink. They're doing a bang up job!
  24. Right, and where did they get that 300 million? Airport improvement fees!! So we pay a fee to use the airport, and now pay a fee to use the skytrain that we already paid for through fees. BRUTAL.
