  1. Hey you're right, Mussolini got the trains to run on time, so he was good too.
  2. Yeah, screw democracy. Who cares if they are being payed 5 times as much. http://www.bclocalnews.com/surrey_area/sur...mes_higher.html Or $1,200 a meeting. http://www2.canada.com/theprovince/news/st...af0&k=36012 Or are not even open to the public. http://www.cbc.ca/canada/british-columbia/...-translink.html Or are selected by a secret panel of business people who (surprise surprise) select another group of professionals who know nothing about transportation infrastructure--but more about accounting and finance.... http://www.theprovince.com/news/TransLink+...8423/story.html http://www2.canada.com/theprovince/news/st...0c8&k=63981
  3. For those in Surrey or with an interest in cycling/walking... http://www.surrey.ca/Living+in+Surrey/Util...ategic+Plan.htm
  4. Thanks Captain Translink Less talk, more action Translink....
  5. You guys would have prefered an elevated track down Cambie?
  6. http://www2.news.gov.bc.ca/news_releases_2...Attachment1.htm 10.7 million for cycling/ped paths in Surrey. Look for big things with that
  7. Not sure why you choose to bold some sentences and not others. If anything there I would have bolded this: "The screens use Omnivex software provided by NEC, and commuters see content that’s a combination of transit information, Global BC’s news, and advertising." Ie. Get used to more, faster, louder, in your face advertising on public transit.
  8. Yeah, tell me about it--that's what I do
  9. hmmmm... sure i guess. seems like he just reads things everyone else is too lazy to read
  10. nitro--why are you deemed to have more knowledge here than others? Do you work in the field?
  11. So was False Creek a short 30 years ago. This why is planning is important, so we don't just look at the next election cycle and call it a day. Waterfront parks and public spaces don't just appear out of nowhere. They take planning, often for decades. Buildings this freeway here, in the 21st century is suicidal economically, socially and environmentally. And I never said building the freeway in the city would be a better idea. I think the idea of building any freeways is ludicrous.
  12. Wow those pics of the freeway interchanges are gross. Why are we building more freeway like that? Why are we building a new freeway right along the waterfront in Surrey--cutting it off from the rest of the city. Major cities are moving away from that model as fast as they can, too bad Surrey is stuck in the 70's.
  13. I just love this type of response. Reminds me of the old 'yeah well your stupider!' defense my 5 year old brother would give.
  14. In the 'how well does transit serve your needs' topic almost every single post raves about how awesome transit is... seems....unlikely.
  15. Where the money goes is a different issue. I have no doubt a lot of it is wasted and not spent on things it should be. Accountability is necessary and really not that hard, it just takes political will. As for doctors, that's a whole different topic.
  16. User pay. A general tax on 'carbon' or something other vague term isn't gonna work. Tolls, registration taxes, whatever that makes the person using their car pay. We're in this position cause Metro Vancouver said no to freeways 30 years ago (good thing imo) but didn't supplement the freeways with anything else. So now we're here. You want to drive a car? Pay for it. Pay more for it. I drive, I will have to pay. Unless they improve transit, then I'll take transit. I've lived in Seoul, Tokyo and other Asian cities. I know we don't have the population they have, but it is so nice to be able to get anywhere you want by transit. I had absolutely no need for a car there for about 5 years.
  17. Maybe you need to worry about high school first...
  18. Not officially on the books so it doesn't show up. Here's what it could look like. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rapid_Tr...t_Vancouver.svg That doesn't show the extension deeper into Surrey very clearly, or the B-line that will run down King George Hwy to Semiahmoo Center, scheduled for 2011. The B-line busses that currently go into Richmond will be moved over once the Canada line is up and running.
  19. Well, it's already under construction in some areas of Surrey so someone has the contract....
  20. Never said it was simple. Olympics--Do you want people running the Olympics that don't consider the fact that there is a 7 year span and therefore need to think about the things you mentioned? I sure don't, but apparently that's what we got. SFPR--The whole logic behind it was premised on 80 cent gas, so it's based on a lie. And I will bet anyone this project goes over budget. Any takers?
  21. I am very aware they are from an 'older design era'--that's my point. Look at the big above ground expo 86 stations, the are ugly as hell but were cool and new back in 86. Urban design is returning back to the older era, pre automobile and sprawl. Skytrain stations should reflect that. For the same money as these big, glass above ground entrances, you could get 2-3 staircase entrances on difference corners allowing for growth in the future.
  22. Ummm, Olympics? Ferries? South Fraser Perimeter Road? I could go on....
  23. Never said I want a 'socialist utopia', whatever you think that is. What's 2 more billion dollars--we're all allowing these clowns in government to steal from us daily anyway. Olympics, ferries, bridges, highways, airports, etc... They all start at x amount of dollars and goes up exponentially from there. Why do any of us believe anything these guys have to say? Yet we happily vote them in over and over and over thinking it will be different. Wake up!
