  1. I want to know what the markup is on a console game. We all know they are roughly $59.99 when new, what is the purchase cost for stores like Best Buy or EB Games? I could guess, but my guess would be worth exactly squat.

Well considering EA sells its games for $20 to employees, we can assume $20-$40 perhaps? After all, after the games is made, it only costs cents to copy and package it.

  2. people would buy the DL codes as gifts, and not everyone has credit cards to buy their games digitally, these are the people that would pay for the DL code at a register. Big box stores would LOVE it, gamestop would go out of business though.

A lot of those big stores are selling used games now too, example Best Buy & Future Shop.

I don't see them benefiting and loving the idea when a huge section of their store will now be empty, one of the big sections too. Stores don't make money off consoles, but the games and accessories instead (from what I've heard) so going to digital downloads, what purpose does it serve for stores to even carry consoles if it brings no benefit but just shelf space gets used up.

  3. OKAY, this is really getting ridiculous... Pay $60 for the game, $60 for Microsoft Live, and then $1 a week to access the multiplayer content? WOW is next gen consoles becoming nothing but a cash grab from what we are hearing about so far.

This is like Call of Duty Elite/NHL Season pass, but making it mandatory to access 90% of the game.

In the Pach-Attack video on Game Trailers that was posted on Jan. 19, Michael Pachter talked a little bit about the pricing strategy of Bungie’s upcoming “Destiny” video game franchise, which is coming to the PS4, Xbox 720 and other systems. You can check out some images of the product, as well as some concept shots of the PS4 and Xbox 720, in the slideshow at the top of this article and the details below.

The analyst at Wedbush Securities expected that the single-player portion of “Destiny” will be priced at $60. He believed that the on-going multiplayer experience will require an additional paid subscription. Players will be able to pay as they play on a $1 per week plan. Michael Pachter also stated that Bungie can get subscribers by releasing additional contents such as monthly map packs or expansions.

The first “Destiny” game will be released for the Xbox 360 and Xbox 720 later this year. The franchise is expected to expand to the PC, PS3 and PS4 platforms with subsequent releases.

  4. It's just old Chinese men/women. Ignore them. Those are the types of Chinese people that people hate and just throws them in with all the other Chinese people in Vancouver. Those are mainland China people so they have no manners whatsoever and disregard what people think of them just cuz they want something. If you see an old Chinese person, most of the time, just ignore them.

Oh my... They are the worst! So annoying how they just cut to the front of the line and push you out of the way.

Once on the bus they cant seem to talk to the person next to them without yelling so the whole bus can hear.

  5. To the article above, HD touch screen in the controller just like the Wii? Oh come on, they just keep making stuff more and more stupid.

I just want to stick to a normal controller! The 360 controllers loved by so many (not myself) so why would they change it? Not to mention some people rage and throw controllers:P

  6. @Masamune

I personally wouldnt buy it unless the price dropped so something similar to a console today, which probably would be 2-4 years after release, so I'll likely stick to my PS3 till then. But who knows if I'll even buy it at all because I'm using it less and less as I get more busy with school and such.

$299 seems extremely low, not sure how they would be able to release a brand new upgraded console for about the same price as they sell them now, because they usually lose money/make hardly any profit on the consoles themselves. So I cant really wrap my mind around that.

Also about "terrible spending habits" I disagree.

$499 for the console on release day

$60 for an additonal controller for your kids (if you had kids, or for a sibling, friends who come over)

$60 for a game, no point in a console without the games

$60 for 12 months live (PS3 released about $50 more than e 360 so evens out)

    Total $679

    12% tax

New total = $760.48 (rough estimates)

So not totally far fetched and "terrible spending habits" its what you had to pay if you were wanting the console when it came out.

Hopefully the $299 price is true though.

    But +1 for your posts!

  7. @Garrison

Well Sony is looking to add 4K resolution compatibilty because we really really need that

Xbox is wanting to push Kinect further in the new console.

Other than that I have no idea at the moment.

@Opmac I'm not completely sure they will be releasing games exclusively in an "app store" because I have read the new XBOX will be featuring blu-ray instead of DVD format discs like they currently have. Plus imagine how much space those next gen games are going to take when they will be 1080p resolution or 4K resolution. Download times will suck especially on release days!

Maybe they'll take a similar approach to how EA makes you have an online pass but somehow make it so the whole game is unplayable if you have already used it on one console?

    Just speculating.

  8. $800 is not a reasonable price to expect someone to drop, but no everything is not already perfect on the consoles you have. They've hit a limit with the capabilities of what they can do with these systems, and if they don't put new hardware out there, you'll continue to see more stagnation, and developers being forced to work around the limitations of the systems.

edit: Though if they do really remove the ability to play used and borrowed games, than the systems can go die for all I care.

Well considering the PS3 and 360 originally released for $499 in Canada for the 360 and $546 for the PS3 in Canada (If my sources are correct)

Tack on $60-70 for an additonal controller

Another $70 for a game $70 more if you want two games.

Then some will want accessories such as the offical Sony Bluetooth headset, and for XBOX someone may want to buy 12 months live off the bat.

Total it all up, then add tax. You do get up there at around $800.

Who knows if they'll make the consoles cheaper this time around.

  9. They couldn't think of more creative names for the new consoles?

Who knows about the names right now, Playstations new console is code name "Orbis" But why not carry on with the name you have already built to be recognized around the world?

Christmas 2013 sounds about right. But really? You can't play used games/PS3 games on the PS4?

Yep, that really will be a bummer if thats true, you wont even be able to take your game to a friends for a weekend or anything. No resale value for games, nor selling them on craigslist -_-

I heard in a video XBOX was doing the same.

  10. So just something I thought was interesting. Next gen consoles are being rumored to be released near Christmas 2013, which includes a new XBOX and Playstation.

    PS4 release date

Latest rumours suggest that the PS4 will launch in time for Christmas 2013, though Sony are remaining quiet on the issue.

We fully expect the Xbox 720 - if it is indeed to be called that – to launch in time for Christmas 2013. And with the increasing frequency of new rumours, reports and leaks, an official reveal from Microsoft cannot be too far away.

First of all, I am not ready to shell out $800 on a new console, it hasnt even been that long, and everything is already perfect on the consoles we have.

Secondly, they are rumored to NOT have backwards compatibilty.

    Backwards compatibility

When the original original PS3 unit shipped, it contained a chip that gave it the ability to play PS2 games. Subsequent iterations of hardware omitted this chip and so the backwards compatibility was condemned to death.

Current rumours suggests that the PS4 will completely ignore the possibility of backwards compatibility and focus firmly on the next generation. So if you want to continue playing your PS3 games, keep hold of your PS3s, kids

Third you will not be able to play used games, making you shell out $70 for a brand new game every time. Goodbye to stores like Gamestop? (as much as I hate them already)

Second hand games on the way out?

More rumours suggest that Sony is going in the same direction as Microsoft in that it wants to kill off the second hand games market. Current industry wisdom suggests that future PS4 games might be tied to your Sony Entertainment Network account and will thus then have no resale value. That's a similar approach as used by PC developers using Steam so we reckon this is a likely development. Doesn't mean we're happy about it, though.

Just a few things to discuss.

  11. Chummy>>>Robson.

    Hassli>>>>Miller.

    Le Toux>>>>>Richards.

Yeah GREAT move blowing up the team when we were in 3rd place Rennie. We have 2 wins in last 3 1/2 months because you wanted two Scotland players.

Was just going to ask why we traded Hassli. (Dont follow the Caps too much, but I do care to catch games then and now)

I remember the Caps being great with him. He was my favourite Caps player, though tbh I cant list many.
