  1. I would like to see how many games those 11 "better" rookie goalies played
  2. It is not an opinion unless you count TSN and analysts commentary as "opinion". Multiple articles throughout last year including trade dead line have Tanev as top 2 defensive defenseman in the league. I am not a fancy stat kibd of person but the number backed up the claim in the articles.
  3. Common, he is still a teenager! Shane Doan was a complete flop till his early to mid 20's. Same with Bertuzzi, Lucic etc. Its the same as people saying Petterson is a second liner. If the guy was 20lbs heavier he would have been 1rst overall. But because no one watched him over the year he was a bad pick as much as Virtanen is a bust. I will eat crow if Virt isn't a solid 2nd liner in 2-4 years
  4. How do you know he's not a franchise guy? hes still a teenager.
  5. If equipment is changed to set dimensions instead of %'s the smaller more athletic goalies would be instantly better. They might even not have to wear smaller gear....
  6. The potential for Demko is insane. After being a goalie graveyard for so long I hope our spoiled fan base doesn't wreck Markstrom and Demko's mental game. We have truly been spoiled since Lou.... With Schneider, Miller, and now Markstrom and Demko. The future is Soooo right on the back end.
  7. I am sure I will be flamed for this but I would still love to see the Sedins split this year. When they don't have each other to pass to they will increaee the effectiveness of those playing around them. I also believe Sutters strong side is Henricks weak side. This gives us probebly the best face off 1rst line in the NHL. Throw Erik on the right and I think you have an insane first line. Daniel slides to the second with Horvat and hopefully Rodin can step it up. This would help Horvat learn the Sedins game, spread out their lack of speed, leave Sven to anchor the third and have a a bonified 1rst line And before everyone says they are not effective split up.... They both had their art Ross seasons when the other was injured for a large portion of the season.
  8. You cannot be more wrong.... If Columbus did not trade the pick they were taking PLD or Ollie.... And Edmonton was going to the take him if Pul didn't drop. PM has also been quoted saying he was the most underrated player in the top 20.
  9. This has been discussed a few times and people seem to have different ideas. One thing I do know is different websites seem to have different answers on the wording. One thing that does seem to be pretty unanimous is that it is only full NMC's that have to be protected... Which means that only Daniel and Henrik have to be protected. Limited or NTC do not. If that wasn't the case I believe Sutter, Hansen, Edler and Tanev would also have to be protected.... I could be very wrong on this. Second, players in there first two years do not need to be protected. This one is even more vague but the definition of second pro year counts until the start of their third year of NHL or AHL. So that would mean Virtanen, Hutton, the Tree (depending on KHL eligibility) shouldn't have to be protected. Also you have two routes of protection, 7 forwards and 3 defenseman or 8 skaters total. I am be no means an expert but have tried to read up on this a few times because I keep getting different answers. Canucks army seems to have a decent description.... But again it could be just as wrong as all the other sites it contradicts. http://canucksarmy.com/2016/6/22/nhl-approves-expansion-and-releases-official-expansion-draft-rules
  10. This guy is a gem.... We have not had a PMD in a long time. His shot is accurate, and he can thread the needle with his passes. I know he is a few years away but this club has not had a true PMD since 2012 and it shows. He will fit in great if the Sedins sign an extension and cover their biggest weakness.... Speed. I don't get why people have such an issue with this pick. He was PM's number five and said he was the most underrated player in the draft. Last year he said the same thing about Boser, and 3 years ago he said Horvat was the steal of the draft... And look how they are turning out. Not to mention Columbus and Calgary were both considering him according to reports. All those people saying we could have traded down to get him chill out... You DONT know that. Just because scouting reports have rankings doesn't mean teams don't have their own. And look at who he was playing behind in worlds and in London. Has anyone thought that maybe they did so well because of his ability Instead of the other way around
  11. It doesn't even look like he hits.... He litterly just puts his body in the way and let's people bounce off him. This guy is looking more and more like the real deal.
  12. So even though he goes UFA it would still be an entry level contract?
  13. As I understood it that's wrong.... If th expansion draft is held in 2017 and Virtanen stays up next year he will be entering His 3rd year and will have to be protected. I might have understood that wrong but that's how it was explained to me. I also thought the pro rule does not apply to UFA which he would be if not aCanuck
  14. This is very true.... Which is why a lot of people think he will go the UFA route if he doesn't sign in the next few weeks. It is fairly obvious that if he wants to play for the nukcks then he needs to sign this year, get one year of pro under Green and step into the backup roll in 2017-18 season. one thing I haven't seen anyone mention that might have some weight is the expansion draft. If Demko signs with Vancouver and stays in the AHL he won't have to be protected if the expansion happens in 2017.... As long as he doesn't get more than 9 games(I believe) next year with the nucks. If he goes the UFA route then whichever team he goes to would have to protect him from the expansion team or take a chance he gets picked up.
  15. And the only team to stop the super skilled Canucks was a tough two way checking team in Boston. If you look over at the oilers.... Who is going to be able to stop them in a few years with all that skill.... A tough two way checking team.
  16. I think the main reason virtanen and McCann are here is because they are not old enough to play pro.... So it's junior or nhl. And In that case It makes sense that it would speed the rebuild.... Even if they start in pro next year
