The silver lining here is Garland actually have positive value now and can be traded for a tangible return now as teams can't squeeze us anymore.

Or still none because only Benning is stupid enough to pay him 5 mill.

Garland is an ok player at 3 mill.
At his cap hit, he has zero value, even if we aren’t crunched for cap.

  2. Honestly, this is a big pile of who cares.

He is a bottom pair dman on a good team.
He doesn’t crack the line up on a contender, but we were about to give him a raise on 2.2 mill.
I’m glad we didn’t sign him.
You can’t improve the team by paying more money for the same sub par players.
This is a blessing is disguise for the Canucks

  3. Here we go.
    1 for Petey

    1 for Demko

And a very reluctant 1 for Hughes falling on his big dumb lap.
I should be taking away a point for OJ and another for Rape Virtanen.

So he gets a 3/10 if I ignore Joulevi and Jake.
Then I need to ignore possibly the worst trade in our teams history.  That’s a big ask.

    Let’s be honest.
Other than 2 good draft picks,  Jim was a bumbling idiot who set us back for years and years and years to come.

Easily one of the worst in franchise history.
    Good Riddance.

Did you mean to quote the benson one seriously or the bedard one jokingly? Since Reinbacher and Simashev are big boys

    Interesting

If E.P. takes less isn't he just bailing out a team/management/owner, that hasn't known what it is doing?

If so, why should he take less?

How does he know, or trust management to spend that saved money on the right things?

Also, will that saved amount actually be useful, or not.?

Will it be enough to pay for a decent 3rd line center, or does it just go to another bottom line/ahl tweener?

I was going to say this exactly.

What has management done (old or new) to show that they will make good use out of whatever discount Petey gives?
They have been piss poor at money management since he joined the Canucks.

At this point, they owe him a good supporting cast, he doesn’t owe them any kind of discount.

Petey’s job is to put up points. He will do that.  Not worry about their money problems.
Their job is to build him a team.
    That’s yet to be seen

I'd only do this if OEL and Myers are going the other way. Players like Garland and Beauliver could be traded without needing to add a pick.

The difference between 11th and 19th is taking on Myers and OEL contracts?
If that were the case, it would have been done long ago.
It would take a bunch of 1sts just to get out of OEL, let alone add myers

Rathbone doesnt belong in the nhl.

Look at the type of dmen that have been on playoff teams this year.  We cant keep hoping these little, soft, one dimensional dmen are outliers.

If players like rathbone are on this team we have no hope in helll of getting anywhere.

You can have 1, maybe 2 at most.
    But I agree.
You want a big strong defensive line up.

We don’t actually have a good big strong defensive dman, let alone 2-3 like we should.
I can only imagine the numbers Demko would be putting up if we had real defensive dmen.
Instead of decent numbers stopping 20 grade A chances out of the 30+ shots against a game, he would have unreal numbers stopping actually restricted number of quality chances against.

Seth Meyers Lol GIF by Late Night with Seth Meyers

Sure that was 4 years ago, but I still don’t mind Myers.
He is one of our only player who doesn’t play like a total kitten.
He gets paid too much, but as a bottom pairing guy, you could do worse.
it’s not his fault our team has refused to get any dmen good enough to push him down the lineup

  9. Well, Petey, Hughes and Demko aren’t going to continue to stay here to lose and they aren’t getting any younger.

The picks sent for Hronek won’t be in the league for what….. 4 years?   If they make it at all.

By the description given, the OP obviously hasn’t watched Hronek play at all, and that’s fine…….  But it is dumb to have such strong negative opinions when you don’t know what the heck you are talking about.

Are we a winning team?   Nope.
Did we need someone like Hronek?  Yup.

Before the trade, we had 1 top 4 dman.
Now we have 2.    Can’t be that bad an idea.

Don't hold your breath.    The Canucks are already $1.5M over cap because of the insane trade for that unserviceable Dman (HornWreck) - where they threw away an extremely valuable high 1st Rd. and 2nd round draft picks on a player that has only one year left on contract and then will cost even more.  Plus with Bear due a raise and a few others needed to be signed, they are in serious cap trouble.  Which means they will be desperate to trade at least one of the 3 most likely players of any value (Garland, BB6 and/or JTM) and JTM is the only one of the three they'll be able to get rid of without throwing away another sweetener in the deal (a draft pick or prospect), so he is the lowest  - low hanging fruit on the tree right now and given we are still years away from being contender and his 20% decline in production already over last year - as he is now "over the hill", and also that they'll be stuck with him until the next decade when he's pushing 40 - unless they trade him right now, I'd say he is walking target #1 on this roster!

    Are you serious?

    No picks were thrown away.
Hronek is awesome and will be signed long term.

Draft picks are magic beans and we’d be lucky if any puck turned out as good as Hronek.

Also, who cares if a bear is due for a raise?
    He is a 6-7 dman.
That should have nothing to do with upgrading our defence, which is very needed.

And LOL at the JTM comment and his decline.
He is a PPG player.  That’s his level right now. The 100 point season was the stand out.     JT is hitting PPG or close to it for at least 2-3 more years.
