  1. Unfortunately never happen. I could see Minny wanting to trade for him... get the hometown boy. Boeser would probably play well there.
  2. Podz is such a "Team Guy".... he really is a good kid. ....Helping out his Russian compatriot.
  3. When the team was almost being run out of the rink at the start of the 3rd tonight, Hoglander made a couple crucial plays to fight for the puck in the Pitts end and keep the Pens off balance enough to prevent them from making another run at the Canucks... for me that was the point at which the team started to weather the storm. That is the kind of play he needs to make if he is going to make the team... forget trying all the fancy dangling which ends up nowhere, just put in the hard work and wait for your chance.
  4. No surprise there. Speaking of hitters... Gotta love Burroughs' spirit... he doesn't have the real talent or the size, but the fight in the dog is there. I am always pulling for him to improve... to be a new Harold Snepst and develop over time into a real force. Burroughs is developing, but realistically with his lack of size I don't think he is more than a #7 on a playoff team.
  5. Myers is a #4 D-Man. The rest except Bear are 6/7's at best. Haven't seen Bear play enough to say about him... but he wasn't anywhere near 3/4 in his previous teams.
  6. Don't forget to post your acknowledgement of error here when Boeser gets a return.
  7. You really think BB believed his own blarny? Nope, he's just building their fragile egos back up. The fact is, the first 4 losses were not as lopsided as everyone said... and these two wins are not as decisive as everyone says. The good news is the team is trending in a positive direction and things are evening out. But until they get their regular D back and more importantly get a couple real 2nd and 3rd pairing D added by management, they will be in tough to go past the first round of the playoffs. Adding Ethan Bare is nice, but he is not really the solution. Personally I think it is time to trade Boeser for a decent D. I have been waiting patiently for him to work on his skating and speed... but its not happening. And the longer they hold off, the less they'll get for him.
  8. Martin has played extremely well in every situation which the Canucks organization has put him in. He was a slow starter in his career... like Markstrom, but is now showing he has learned from all the experience he has had on ice. He is a good backup at this point... not so sure he is a starter, but if BB decides to put him in the net next game, I would not object. (don't think that will happen)
  9. So all those bandwagoners should be careful not to blow out their knees jumping back on... This team is still playing not particularly well in their own zone. They are too dependent on their goalie putting in a superb performance. Last night they were outshot by a ridiculous amount, and tonight were outshot by a considerable margin. Defense is being forced into too many shot blocks... and too much collapse to the net desperation. Overall they players need to start focusing on team defense, especially the forwards in the neutral zone. Zone access is still too easy for the opposition... Canucks can't continue to allow that. Several times in the third Pens had opportunities which they easily could have cashed in on.
  10. Bo is making the case for a good new contract... he is playing well... and consistently.
  11. Team should say 'Thanks Spencer'.... because when they were panicking at the start of the 3rd, he bailed them out. Still very fragile dressing room.... with not a lot of composure in the tight situations. But every step helps and this will add a little more to the confidence they need.
  12. Talk of trading Demko is one of the stupidest thing I have heard in a while. An elite NHL goalie has a top range playing lift of at least 10 years, quite often elite goalies will go 15 years. With Demko, the Canucks have their #1 goalie needs taken care of until at least 2032. Look around... how many teams in the league are desperate for a #1???? For the Canucks to trade a 26 year old Demko would be one of the most moronic and idiotic decisions imaginable.
  13. Sorry to have to say it, but looking at this team, this year and last year, and asking what's changed... biggest one is the assistant coaches. Last year was Scotty Walker, Jason King and Brad Shaw under BB. Shaw did a terrific job under BB running the D. Unfortunately, due to no fault of BB's, both of Walker and Shaw left, Walker to be closer to his son, and Shaw to join his old buddy Torts. They were replaced by Mike Yeo and Trent Cull. And now we have this current situation where the team defense really seems to have fallen apart. And the offense is nearly as bad. Question is, is that a failure of the players or the assistants? Does management need to shake things up a bit and bring in a new assistant to run the D?
  14. Unfortunately the team's play is getting worse. They continue to have extremely poor team defense in their own zone... - No one wants the puck... all the players are standing around and waiting for someone else to take charge... result the other team takes the puck - No aggressive physical play in the zone by the forwards... assignments if they are even followed are usually with the Canuck playing catchup... two steps behind - Continue to surrender the blueline... no backchecking, no attempts to standup the puck carrier Offensively a complete lack of creativity. - Similar style right now to what we saw at the worst times of Green's tenure... all solo efforts, no fast movement of the puck between linemates, almost all dump and chase with no coordination between the dumper and chaser... timing is completely off - Only player trying to use his wingmen right now is Pettersson, but his wingmen are usually out of position and not ready for his passes Demko was better this game... can't blame him for the loss. If the team can only generate three shots in the third period when they are down 3-1, then you know they are not motivated. Who knows what is happening in the locker room... but for whatever reason this team, which seemed to be on the same wavelength as BB last year, now suddenly is playing like they want another coaching change. I have to wonder if this is something to do with the wholesale change in assistant coaches over the off season? Canucks lost first Scotty Walker, then Brad Shaw. Shaw was put in charge of the defense after Green was fired and did a terrific job under BB. Walker was a player's coach, a real solid guy. Boudreau didn't want to lose either of them, but Walker had to leave because he wanted to be with his son, and Shaw left to join Torts, who he had worked with previously in Columbus. Whatever is happening, maybe the Canucks might want to look at finding another assistant to help out with the D... right now things are not working.
  15. This is all about poor defensive coverage, poor positioning and play in their own zone, and lack of effort defensively when even strength. Complete breakdown. What I am seeing in the D-Zone: - Surrendering entry to opponents - Confusion in defensive coverage - Over reliance on sticks to check defensively... no physical checking - No pursuit of the puck carrier by the assigned Canuck player Offensively there are bright spots: - The Pettersson/Podz/Kuzmenko line are a threat whenever they are on the ice, and could have easily had two goals this game - Miller line played better, Garland and Mikheyev work well together But the problem is the team D play in their own zone... which with the injury to Hughes is being exposed. Hughes is very good at retrieving the puck and moving it out of the zone quickly... without him there, they are getting hemmed in... then their poor coverage gives the other team opportunities. BB needs to sit them down and talk about coverage in the D-Zone, getting on the opposing forwards, and Canuck forwards starting to hit in the D-Zone.
  16. There is also the fact the team has no confidence right now. You can see when they hit the 3rd period they are all gripping their sticks and holding their breaths. Once they get a couple wins they will be a lot better. Way too early to start panicking. They are playing well in sections of the games, just no consistency. They are showing good fluid movement offensively, Petey, Podz and some of the others are showing imagination. Panic if the losing streak hits 10 games.
  17. Miller will come back... if Boudreau can sit him down and get him settled. Right now Miller is trying to do too much and doing nothing. I predict Miller will get 70-80 points this year.
  18. Klingberg was available... he signed with Ducks... but for $7 mil, one year. Little pricey and he's 30.
  19. Miller will start to wake up in a few games. His career doesn't show him having long stretches in the doghouse. Complete stupidity to start talking about trading him or waiving him... just moronic. Boeser may be lost cause... but he is still tradebait which could bring a decent return. I'll bet if he went to Minny he'd start scoring by the bucketful.
  20. Can't believe the number of whiners on this forum... what a bunch of putz's. Team is playing reasonably well... they should have a couple wins. Will turn around... but the fact is, the team needs D. The real question: Why did management spend $5 million on Mikheyev, a forward, when the team needed D?????????
  21. It's the SAME problem as last year. The team needs a couple solid D. Too bad management doesn't see this... just like previous management didn't see it.
  22. All you morons who want to blow up the team are the same morons we always see. What the team needs are a couple more D. What management f*cked up in was not acquiring those pieces. Instead they got a pricey forward from free agency in Mikheyev. Team doesn't need forwards, it needs a solid 3-4 D and a solid 5-6 D.
