  1. I think the underscore of this move is this was plan Z in clearing cap space and they’ve scoured the land and realized they couldn’t free up space in a trade without adding a sweetener or doing something crazy

point being, they cornered themselves AGAIN and the rest of the league knows it thus they had free up space internally

Just goes to show that just because we have a number of Russian players does not mean every Russian player in the league suddenly magically wants to migrate to here. Imagine that. lol

So, according to your logic we should have locked up Boeser to a 7.5x8 contract in 2019?  His numbers were better than Caufield coming off his ELC and he finished 2nd in the Calder voting.  You know how bad that contract would look now right?

Also, Kyle Dubas really screwed over the Leafs with your logic.  Matthews with only a 5-year extension and Marner with a 6-year extension.  Just terrible mismanagement from Dubas really...

People would be screaming today if Boeser has Caufield's contract.

Very fair point, but boeser was a little overrated from the start as he was ALL we had to get excited about at the time. Meaning, a true hockey mind never would value him that high cause he didn’t/doesn’t have the quickness to create space on his own thus limiting his ceiling. 5.5m-6.5m on a 8 year deal is what a 50-60 point guy gets if you ask me

boeser is a terrific finisher and board battler, but that’s pretty much it.

Toronto’s core four getting paid big money is a product the pedestal they all play under which is common called the “Toronto effect”…marner isn’t an 11m player and JT value bloomed in UFA. Matthews and nylander are currently at fair value deals and their next deals will be bloated because of their pending UFA status

All it took was 1 reply to start complaining about the Canucks on a post dedicated to another team. Yikes.

If Caufield is worth 8*7.85, Pettersson at 10 or so is just as great of a contract, and we shouldn't be complaining. Pettersson's comparables are the likes of Mackinnon, Tkachuk, not Caufield.

Yikes, what a miss of the point.

the point was to sign your young players for as long as possible cause the price never goes down

Never said pettersson and Caufield are comparable but 3 years ago pettersson on a 8 year deal would be in the 8.5m-9.5m now, he’s in the 10-11.5m on a 8 year deal.

Would it though? Was trading Horvat a rebuilding move? It was a reallocation move, a re-tool, if you will. If the canucks made this trade, then used the 14th, or even our own 11th, to trade for a young unproven C who needs opportunity couldn't we make a trade similar to the Horvat deal?

Yes subsequent moves can be made but at the end of the day the current on ice product will get worse cause the Canucks won’t find another 80 point centre just lying around….they’ll have like Evan Rodrigues as their no.2 centre

That would be considered a rebuilding move.  I don't see the Canucks doing that.  If they decide

to trade JT, there would have to be a top 4RD and/or a young player with #2C potential (already

    playing 3C).

    Unfortunately, I think you’re right.

it’s what they SHOULD do but won’t do it

Will Dubas do this, though?  He might want to make a splash but he’s also a big nerd.

If Pitt is as desperate to keep trying to win as we think. it’s highly possible they revisit Miller around the draft

Miller will be highly sought after cause there isn’t much in UFA for C

  8. To van: pettersson, 2023 14th pick overall pick, 2024 1st round pick (top 10 protected or moves to an unprotected 2025 1st pick)

    to pit: Miller

Canucks would have the opportunity to select a top C and top D in the top 15 of the draft

The D is still a work in progress. after Hughes and Hronek Bear is probably the next best option. Myers and OEL are boat anchors and should play bottom 6 minutes. The one that impresses me so far is Hirose and may take a big step with the current coaching staff. I say we keep the 11 OA and draft the defenseman that is best at that pick.I know they are looking at Sandin Pellika but I would like someone with more snarl. maybe thats in the second round.  Need someone that makes life miserable in the defensive zone. Myers just hasnt been that guy often enough.

    ***BPA not best defenseman available***

I could make a strong argument we need a young C more than anything cause after pettersson and Miller there’s nothing for the future except Raty who still needs another year in the A

With STL rebuilding, is there a chance Parayko would be available? Not sure what he would cost and, obviously it would take some work cap-wise (I think moving Myers and Garland would be enough to make it work) but I'd like to see a defensive group like this moving forward.

    Hughes - Parayko

    Soucy - Hronek

    OEL - Bear

The only contract concern would be Hronek's raise but with Beauvillier off the books after next year and the expected rise in salary cap, it shouldn't be a big deal. Having guys like Raty, Lekkermaki, McDonough, etc. joining the big club over the next couple years while on their ELC's makes this defense possible as well.

    Parayko is the next OEL

30yrs old and signed for 7 more years. He has a history of back injuries and isn’t that fleet of foot to begin with

in the short term he’s still got game, but that’s 2 or 3 out of 7 years of productive hockey
