I think the plan is for him to play in Sweden next year but as soon as he starts playing hockey in North America his entry level deal starts tickin
24-25 season is probably when this deal will kick in

Boston does have 4.5m in performance bonus overage to deal with next year so that won’t be funCanucks only have 850k

If I’m the Canucks I’d be preaching the fact we saved your career and you have a nice fit here since you could play with hughes most of the time…don’t mess it up
ultimately, he’s a 3rd pair guy who can play in the top 4 in a pinch…3rd pair guys don’t get more than 1.5-2m

Additions to prioritize
1) LHD or RHD legit top 4 D2) right handed shot 3rd line center who can take draws
3) .900 sv% back up goalie2 of garland, boeser, Myers, OEL or beau will be moved to create some flexibility to address other needs

8 years x 9.5-11m
anywhere in that range is a win

Reinbacher or Moore territory
Teams usually “reach” for C and D early in the draft so I would guess reinbacher or moore to be gone 3 or 4 spots before van can get a shot
one of 3 scenarios is going to happen at 11
1) Canucks pick a LD or RD. Either side fills a need
2) pick a C which they desperately need
3) pick a winger who was slated to go higher but slipped because D and C were prioritized in the top 10
it’s a classic win, win…win

80% chance Canucks pick 11th

The answers about Pearson and poolman are gonna be interesting

The chips will fall where they may
94-97% chance of NOT drafting Bedard doesn’t really matter boys and girls in the grand scheme of things

Canucks added a college free agent in every important position and that’s a HUGE WIN

Every college free agent signed is always worth the gamble
1 more college free agent would be amazing but we should all be more than happy with the management ability to bring in players

That's probably it. Canucks (competent) D depth:
Hughes - Bear
OEL - Hronek
Dermott (?) - Myers
Rathbone - Burroughs
Brisebois - Juulsen
Wolanin - Johansson (?)
Where would Livingstone or Malinski fit in? I can't see Tocchet just handing some NHL newbie a top pairing assignment with Hughes.
I would be SHOCKED if dermott is back but I’m scribbling 5 or 6 of those guys into ABBY for next year

OK, so why are we apparently not in on either of the righties then?
Maybe because the Canucks just don’t think they are that good

OEL isn't going anywhere, but Bear may not be resigned. The right side has been our Achilles heel for a long time, and good righties are typically harder to find than lefties. I really think that should be the priority. Not against signing Hirose, but I would personally be prioritizing the right side.
We need help on both sides

He’d probably be the equivalent of a mid round pick and he may never pan out but it’s just nice to win one
Would be nice if the Canucks can sign 1 or 2 more college free agents then if they get a full time NHL player on 1 of 3 that’s a huge WIN

Do us fans realize how great a player Hughes is? He absolutely dominates games, and is doing it with pretty much AHL level partners. Imagine what he would have accomplished if we kept Tanev, his ideal complimentary partner.
For a franchise that has never had a true top pair D it doesn’t make sense he isn’t talked about more
hughes under tocchet is a Norris trophy caliber D

I like this idea. It's pretty much what I wanted us to do with Stecher. Bear is a perfectly fine 3rd pair guy. 1.5mil isn't breaking the bank. It just works. Also kicks the can down the road on Woo potentially developing into roster piece. If he can manage it at all.
It it idealizing the Canucks blueline a bit that they’ll add two top 4 D in the summer but that would be a pretty good D core if they can pull it off

[Signing] Vitali Kravstov signs with Traktor Chelyabinsk (KHL)

It was a calculated risk, but he doesn’t want to work for it or good enough so don't quibble about this too much
canucks probably said he’s best suited to play top minutes in the AHL and he said screw that and bolted to motha Russia
