  1. Anyone watch the Seattle/Petes game earlier? I don't see NHL in any of those kids, but that's me seeing any of them except Milic play 1 game this season. I sure hope the Canucks don't trade that #11 unless they move up to 3-6.

It was another Megna situation.  He's fine in the AHL but he's completely useless at the NHL level and really isn't an acceptable solution even as an injury replacement.

You don't watch hockey do you? The coaching staff must be completely useless too then, right? He was playing third line minutes, and played second unit power play time in games I watched.

I feel bad for most of Benn's teammates.  What Pavelski and Seguin said after the game is absolutely right.  They are not defending the cross-check. They know it was a bad play that deserves whatever punishment is coming for him.

But leaving the arena mid-game and ghosting your team?  The captain?  Hockey is a very team-oriented sport and this is a veteran captain who should 100% know that you should never abandon your team.  It's such an immature attitude that matches the immature play.  How can the Stars let him wear the 'C' next season?

We know this for sure? If so, I'd say the Stars will do anything to get rid of him in the off season.

I don't think he'll be in Van either and I'm fine moving him, but not as a "sweetener" to move an unwanted contract.  That's a terrible path to go down.  My point was that EV said Rathbone has no business in the NHL, but I watched a lot of Abby games this year and he's worked in his defensive game and his skills are high level, even in the NHL.

His game has vastly improved for being down in Abby. The two games I saw him play, he didn't look out of place at all, and that pass out of his own zone is NHL level. In order down in Abby, Rathbone, Wolanin, and Woo/Juulsen a close third.

Look up John Spano, and "Boots" Del Biaggio.

Who was the guy involved with the Canucks in the beginning? He served time too. Don't ask me how that was allowed. It shows how the top of the NHL seems to attract these investors, without any vetting. Phoenix from the beginning was a gong show.

  6. My choices, in no particular order. Quebec City, Portland Ore., Houston, and Milwaukee. Salt Lake and San Diego could be an option, as they are already minor league teams. But, let's hold our horses, Bettman doesn't like to admit to failure, so I'm sure he'll do his best to try and persuade the City to get this on track, vote be damned.

Or Raiders fans, Supersonics Fans, Vancouver Grizzlies fans....

With many more FANS involved. I suppose those who support the franchise are saying, without the Coyotes a guy named Auston Matthews wouldn't be playing in the NHL. Think of all the kids in Canada that moved from home at 14 or 15 to play in hockey academies, and later into junior programs. Time to cut bait and put the team into a hockey market.

Yes, I remember that show, used to be on the weekends in the summer I think.  It was called "The Superstars".  They had Canadian and US versions and also other countries.  Brian Budd was before my time, Gretzky did compete but I don't think he ever won.  The guy I remember the most was Herschel Walker.  I think he won the US version 2 or 3 times in a row.  Guy was a complete monster...

No he did win, and won often.

Remember when they split up Gretzky's goals and assists in hockey pools?  You couldn't just take Gretzky first overall, the advantage was too unfair.  You had to split him up into two players.  If I won the hockey pool, I would always take Gretzky's assists.  I think he would have won the Art Ross trophy at least 3 times with only his assists.

    1985-86

    Gretzky 163 assists

    Lemieux - 141 points

    1986-87

    Gretzky - 121 assists

    Kurri - 108 points

    1982-83

    Gretzky - 125 assists

    Stastny - 124 points

    1984-85

    Gretzky - 135 assists

    Kurri - 135 points

That is completely insane and not of this world.  One more thing.  If people say Gretzky was a product of the Oilers, just remember he won THREE scoring titles while playing for LA.  And the last kicker.  He won his last scoring title at age 33, beating out a 24 year old Sergei Fedorov.

Gretzky was definitely the most dominate athlete of all time IMO...

I, for one back in the day didn't appreciate what he was doing in his career. Mainly because he used to totally light up the Canucks regularly. He was in a class of his own, and I do agree, probably the best athlete ever. Jordan is a very close second, as you could say he took time off to play ball (suspended, I believe). But, he came back and won championships. The gruel of an NHL season, with all the travel, etc., really does set Gretzky apart from the others. Ball players and football players don't have the longevity to get into this conversation in my opinion. Tiger and Jack, yes, they are up there, but are golfers really athletes? Just kidding. Do any of you remember that sports show that would pit athletes against each other from different sports, and compete in speed, agility, and strength? Gretzky and Brian Budd dominated that show.

    What an interesting team lol.

I think Matthews will sign there still. Might even be for less then originally planned due to repeatedly losing like this. They may need to move out someone significant though. Do a shakeup and clear some cap maybe (more like reallocate some cap).

I've been hearing some Toronto coverage and they loved Schenn. Sounds like most fans/media want him resigned. Would like him back in Van, but good for him if this results in him getting some money from Toronto.

He was the only true d man in the Florida series. He priced himself out of the Vancouver market me thinks.

Then how are you supposed to build a team then. I don’t see anyone on the knights roster that jumps out and scream “I am only built for the playoffs”… McDavid is a monster in the regular season and means nothing in the playoffs. Does it have to do with how the game is called? If 50% of the penalties go uncalled then what is the point of rules? I truly believe that the “anything can happen” rhetoric is because the game is called different in the playoffs from the regular season. This shouldn’t be the case. The same standard should apply both in the regular season and the playoffs to maintain consistency.

This is why they're called playoffs. The Knights are a big, heavy team, and have 4 solid lines, plus 6 defensemen that play the same way. Plus, their goaltending is far superior to the Oilers. I admit they do let a bit more go during the playoffs, but, to think that McDavid should get preferential treatment because he's Connor McDavid is ridiculous. I only watched the last 7 minutes of the game last night, but game 6, Vegas had their 3rd line out, and they held the Oilers in their own zone for a complete line change, and managed to get their top line out to keep the pressure on. It was a clinic on how to play playoff hockey.

Because not paying taxes is a huge draw for millionaires. It does matter honestly.

This only applies to FA's. If a player is traded to Vancouver, he plays in Vancouver regardless. If a Free Agent choses to go to a market where they play less income tax, that's a whole different ballgame. Draft picks go where they're drafted, unless your name is Lindros. None of these two teams in the quarter finals, Leafs or Oilers, were built properly.

Let’s face it. The nhl playoffs is a complete crapshoot. It isn’t about skill anymore. It’s all about the grind and who is tougher. Refs don’t call the penalties and oilers lose as simple as that. I am a hockey fans for over 20 years and I don’t want to hear all that Stanley cup is the hardest trophy to win bullshit. VGK and the Kraken may be playing each other in the western finals. Let that sink it for a moment. Two of the newest expansion teams playing each other. The so called hardest trophy to in in all sports might be won by expansion teams in the last 7/8 years. Which superstar is left now? Eichel? Robertson? … I mean let’s not pretend the playoffs is about the art of hockey. It’s about which team can grind the most and the fastest. Skilled players don’t mean jack in the playoffs and this is why I lose interests after the first round. You almost know what is gonna happen. Big fast grinding team wins every freaking year. You don’t need your superstars. Just be big and fast and hard working. That’s all.

153 points mean nothing. This is the most difficult trophy in all of sports to win. All you need is a spot in the playoffs and anything could happen. It's a team game, and teams that are built for the grind, usually win. This shows you how teams can shut superstars down in the playoffs, and how teams are built. Two teams with 4-6 players earning most of the salary cap, that have AHL goalies and suspect defense shouldn't win either. That's you Oilers and Leafs.

I was at the last Leaf game in Vancouver, a Canuck team that didn't make the playoffs beat them in all aspects of the game. Right now, I'd take EP over Matthews, or Marner, or Tavares any day.
