  1. Can't say I viewed him much at all this season (I didn't watch a second) but tried to get some info/highlights in when his name got linked with the Canucks.

Projections I'll leave for the pros but I agree with Allvin almost word-to-word on his evaluation of the player. I am really intrigued by his choice of heading to BU. Didn't know that prior to the pick being anounced.

That choice and commitment says so much more if you understood it from "the Swedish perspective". It speaks volumes for his character - that's a mature and committed thing to do. It's the odd ball choice, perhaps also one that not everyone even realizes exists. I'm sure his decision was met with a lot of questioning, yet he still seems fully committed and engaged in this "next chapter" as he likes to say. When he explains why, it all makes sense, it seems almost obvious that BU is the best spot for him.

He seems so aware of himself as a player and person. Those rumored elite draft interview grades seem to check-out.

I think we've got a chance of having something really, really good here.

  2. Kinda off-topic but techincally not.

I've always really liked Rasmus Asplund whenever I've watched him play. No idea how he's been doing the past 2 seasons but I've been a fan in the past.

Great defensive traits, a little undersized but has that classic Swedish responsible game and can be used on the PK.

Perhaps a lower tier option for the Canucks?

This is the one thing that I noticed separates European players versus North Americans, especially Canadians. Players from here generally value the Stanley Cup more so than international tournaments and vice versa. Vegas thanks the 16 Canadian players on their team.

Not saying Willander won’t play hard for us. Just saying…

Have to correct you here. I am comfortable saying that 99% of Swedish players answer is the Stanley Cup.

World Juniors is special for any player, perhaps even more so than being apart of a WC or an Olympic team. You get aged out from the WJC whether you're from Czechia or Burnaby.

Matvei and Andrei (RIP) Michkovs mutual dream was for Matvei to one day lift the Stanley Cup.

You are correct in Europeans leaning more into international tournaments. Probably because home is long ways away for the NHL players. They're playing for Canadian and American NHL franchises.. nice to be able to represent something from home for once.

Is anyone else sick to death of these Uber Eats commercials?

I don't get a lot of N.A feeds over here in Europe but watched a NHL network stream before the draft so I got to actually see the commercial breaks for a change.

Where can one purchase the newly released and collectible .999 Silver Dollar Double Eagle collector coin that was in the 1 minute a time infomercial?

  5. I’m not sure it’s the direction I’d go if I was in charge but I have to give some credit for being decisive. The options it opens up versus the required work around should be worth it.

I think it’s a net gain move even with the cap penalty in mind. That’s how bad the OEL contract is/was. It’s a shame really as I always enjoyed him as a player earlier in his career. He was dominant at times.

Would love to see a young-ish replacement who works hard and plays with pace. I wonder if Columbus could use to alleviate themselves of a defender. They’ll be just as aggressive as the Canucks this summer.

  6. Maybe weird for me to budge in seeing as I'm neither Canadian or live in Canada but being a fan of a Canadian team for almost 20 years, I do have Canada vs USA bias.

I just want the Canucks to win. I want Vancouver to be the team and city that breaks the curse. If some other Canadian team wins a cup it kinda ruins that dream of mine I guess. I always pictured it that way ever since I was a kid. The run in '11, it felt like we were vilified by everyone. It's hard for me to forget that. Nobody else wanted us to win.

I cheer against teams so I'm rooting for the Kings knocking the Oilers out, Florida knocking Boston out etc. That's the only time I care about a certain team other than the Canucks ever winning something. I prefer some teams winning over others.

If the hockey gods aren’t feeling gracious enough to grant us Bedard or Fantilli, then please at least let this happen ;)

PS that is one stacked top 16 IMO. A strong case could be made to draft any of those players. Having said that, I’m not super high on Yager. Of the players that might still be there when we pick, I’m really liking Leonard and Barlow. Unfortunately I highly doubt Reinbacher will still be on the board at 11.

I think there is a good chance he is still there for us. Montreal is the other team that probably has a RHD as their highest priority on draft day. Picking at #5 I doubt they go for Reinbacher that early, too many better forward prospects available. Teams between Montreal and Vancouver should have other positions as their highest priority as well. Montreal also have later picks in the first round. I predict they will go forward at #5 and that it is more likely they'll pick up a D with the #17. They don't have to reach for Reinbacher to end up picking a solid defensive prospect in the first round.

The wildcard is Detroit now that they ironically traded Hronek to Vancouver. Yzerman isn't afraid to reach but they have a lot of D prospects already. Should still opt to go for a forward. Washington is a maybe as well. I believe they have center ice more prioritized at #8.

    #6 Arizona - Forward
    #7 Philadelphia - Center

    #8 Washington - Center

    #9 Detroit - Forward

    #10 St Louis - Center

Montreal would look like draft day winners if they end up with let's say - Michkov, Carlsson or Smith at #5 and perhaps a Gulyayev at #17.

Players I'm low on and hoping the Canucks don't pick:
    Yager, Sandin-Pelikka, Dvorsky, and Cristall

They all pose a risk in my eyes and to me they all are very raw still and are riskier picks than what I am usually comfortable with. Saying that, I had the same feelings about Pettersson during the 2017 draft and how wrong I was about him being able to translate his skills to the NHL level.

There should be serious slide potential for Michkov as well given his contract status in the KHL. If he slides past Montreal, I really think there is a high chance he is also available at #11 and then you have to pick him.

1-5 all of those teams need immediate help, Montreal being the likeliest to wait on Michkov
6-10 likely zeroed in on another prospect they really like and end up passing on Michkov, the Bo Callahan effect ;)

Really long post now, but here is my mock:
    1 Anaheim - Bedard

    2 Chicago - Fantili

    3 Columbus - Carlsson

    4 San Jose - Benson

    5 Montreal - Michkov

    6 Arizona - Smith

    7 Philadelphia - Sale

    8 Washington - Moore

    9 Detroit - Dvorsky

    10 St Louis - Leonard

    11 Vancouver -

  8. I've had this gut feeling that the Canucks select Matvei Michkov this year. This isn't based on the influx of Russian players to the Canucks lately but more on the fact that the teams ahead in the draft order need help now. Canucks are in a much better position to wait for his arrival and I also think he falls further than where most people have him in their mocks.

I have been manifesting this for awhile now. You're welcome.

I was just watching that press conference.  Very good watch!

Yzerman mentioned that he looks at Buffalo and Ottawa as teams that are ahead of them in the rebuilds.

He also said that he will try and turn some draft picks that he's acquired into players that can help their team.  It would be pretty funny if he turned that pick around and traded it for someone else.

Exactly. Yzerman is saying very similar things to what our management group has been saying. Detroit are in a somewhat similar situation to Vancouver so I think it could be useful for some of our more vocal doubters to listen to this presser. Yzerman, rightly or wrongly, has a super long leash both from the Wings fanbase, media and hockey nerds in general. Our new management group has inherited a lot of frustration from the Benning years, and I do get it. However, I have a lot more trust in our new management group compared to the last one.

Yzerman actually says he would rather get a player back than a draft pick and also that it's not certain they'll use the picks to draft someone but rather trade it. He also had a deadline where they did a little of everything. Traded away mid 20 players but also re-signed players in the same age bracket. Are they also missing direction? Probably not.
