I rather try to get Dickinson moved for 2nd or get our 3rd back, a little too much cap for what he brings - he is not fast, he is not a physical force, not great on Fosses, not great PKer

You are so right. Dickinson is Mr. Average. He is not really good at skating, shooting, passing, PKing, forchecking or defending. But he is not bad either. God i wish we can get rid of Dickinson and recoup the third.

Miller's 29 in March and I don't see us being contenders over the next 2-3 years. He's a piece I move, but I've been beating that drum for months.

I have been saying this too. Miller is our best and most consistent player. However we are not contenders and I see us maybe being contenders at least 5 years away. Miller would be like 34 and I doubt he would be the same player.

It's time to make hard decisions and decisions to win a cup and not hope for the best

Shots in those two games was 90 for us and 50 for them.

Their goalies stopped pucks at .950 and Demko at .825.

Bubble Demko is top 5 in the world.  The guy we saw these last two games wasn't very good at all.

JR will build this club around Demko, Hughes, and Petey because these are the guys who can play like they are the best at their position and win Cups.

Looking at save percentage for just the 2 games is not a good way of judging. Did you look at where the shots are taken? Mostly in front of the net which is where most NHL goals comes from. And how about secondary shots? Demko has more secondary shots against than Vasileksy

So don't just take 2 numbers and run with it. Look at the whole dataset.

I think you're off the mark.

The defence is just as disjointed as our forwards.

I sound like a broken record but seeing Tanev and Schmidt have success elsewhere tells me the problem is with the coaching staff not the individuals.

Our entire team is disjointed yet why are you only looking at Myers, Hamonic and Poolman?

The level of crap that permeates this entire team where both forwards and defensemen are underachieving should point squarely at the coaching staff.

Whats unfortunate is that ppl are starting to believe that these guys suck.

Petterson was a rookie of the year and was nearly a pt a game his entire career

Boeser was a rookie of the year candidate and was solid last year after overcoming injuries

Horvat is a good 2 way player with offense

    Hogz is another year developed.

Hughes was another rookie of the year candidate.

We added Podz and he's been what we had hoped.

    Garland was a home run.

OEL has played like a true top pairing D.

Miller has been great this year.

There were so many good stories yet our team play is still garbage.

How is that not on the coaching staff?

Why do ppl think our players all of a sudden suck?

Hate to break it to you. Tyler Myers is also a Calder winner. Does he look like a Top 2 D man?

Winning Calder or runner up calder don't mean anything. What you do every year and the years afterwards determines what type of player you are.

You are basing GM as the worst GM on 12 games of this season? Really?

I was calling for Green to be fired before you if I remember right. However, both Garland and OEL have been great. On paper our forward group looks legit. You as always and a couple others found fault with it all as usual. If we were to go to the OEL and Garland trade, how much garbage did you post about them before they played a game.

No not 12 games. But 8 years of losing with 1 playoff birth to show, terrible signings and roster construction and 8 draftees turn NHLers in 8 years. So yeah, Benning is one of the worse GMs in NHL history. Even Mike Milbury drafted well, the idiot just traded them away.

That hit piece article from THN about Benning is absolute biased horse$&!#. The stupidest, most simplistic way to analyze drafting success is in hindsight to look at which players could have been had at spot X and criticize the team for missing out on them without mentioning the number of other NHL clubs that also missed out on drafting said player. The other biased thing they do in that piece is not give praise for drafting a NHL player that’s no longer on the team. Does that mean every team needs to keep every drafted NHL player to be regarded as successful in drafting? It’s beyond ridiculous reasoning.

The question being asked: Is Jim Benning a good drafter of NHL players? So let’s instead actually do a fair analysis of the Canucks overall drafting capability. What happened after they were drafted can be debated ad nauseam and is immaterial to whether he has drafted well or not.

Let’s go through the article player by player. I’m only going to look at the players mentioned, not all Canucks picks.

    2014:

Virtanen - A gamble we obviously lost on.

McCann - Still playing in the NHL, 23 other teams passed on him, definitely a win.

Demko - In hindsight a home run pick. 35 teams passed on him.

Forsling - Still playing in the NHL, 125 teams passed on him, obvious big win.

Nylander - 6 other teams passed on him.

Ehlers - 7 other teams passed on him.

    2015:

Boeser - Still playing in the NHL, 22 other teams passed on him, huge win.

Gaudette - This one is more in the grey area. He definitely outperformed his drafting position, but only played 150 games and is now out of the league. 148 teams passed on him. Slight win to a wash here imo.

    2016:

Juolevi - Another pick that seems to have gone bust.

Lockwood - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 63 other teams passed on him. TBD

Matthew Tkachuk - 4 other teams passed on him.

Clayton Keller - 5 other teams passed on him.

Mikhail Sergachev - 7 other teams passed on him.

    2017:

Pettersson - Still playing in the NHL, 4 teams passed on him, definitely a win despite his recent poor play.

Lind - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 32 other teams passed on him. TBD

Gadjovich - Too soon to say. 54 other teams passed on him. TBD

DiPietro - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 63 other teams passed on him. TBD

Rathbone - Too soon to say. 94 other teams passed on him. TBD

Nic Hague - 32 other teams passed on him.

Jason Robertson - 37 other teams passed on him.

    2018:

Hughes - Still playing in the NHL, 6 teams passed on him, home run pick.

Woo - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 36 other teams passed on him. TBD

Madden - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 67 other teams passed on him. TBD

Utunen - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 129 other teams passed on him. TBD

Manukyan - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 185 other teams passed on him. TBD

Thiessen - Too soon to say as he’s yet to crack the NHL. 191 other teams passed on him. TBD

Alexander Romanov - 36 other teams passed on him.

    2019:

Podkolzin - Too soon to say, but looking good so far. 9 other teams passed on him. TBD

Höglander - Still playing in the NHL, 39 teams passed on him, absolute win.

    To sum up:

In 2014 we drafted 3 NHL players

In 2015 we drafted 1-2 NHL players

In 2016 we drafted 0-1 NHL players

In 2017 we drafted 1-5 NHL players

In 2018 we drafted 1-6 NHL players

In 2019 we drafted 1-2 NHL players

On average each draft produces 60 NHL players of which 40 have a significant playing career.

Every draft we got a significant NHL’er except 2016. We underperformed expectations in 2016, were average in 2015 and overperformed in 2014. We also have the potential to overperform in the 2017, 2018 and 2019 drafts.

Under Jim Benning If 1 additional NHL player of significance comes from the drafts of 17, 18 and 19 (at least probable imo) we will have overperformed in 66.6%, underperformed in 16.66% and were average in 16.66% of drafts held with him in charge. Not exactly the kind of stats that would lead one to believe his drafting has been middling or a miss.

Your calculation is extremely flawed and bias. You literally said in 2018 that there is one sure fire NHLer (Hughes) but you counted all 6 in the final tally of "60" NHLers drafted by Benning. I counted 9 NHL players produced by Benning in a span of 8 years.

So is Benning the draft whisperer that everyone preaches him to be about? No absolutely not. He basically averages 1 NHL / Draft based on your data. This is completely awful.

Add to the mix of his botch signings and roster construction, Benning is up there with Mike Milbury for the Championship belt of Worse GM of ALL-TIME

    I’m actually okay with this.

If this is what it takes for the owner to buck up and own his mistake then so be it.

If this game isn’t obvious that the team needs a change then maybe we need to change owners.

This. It's pretty obvious now that bubble canucks is the outlier and the 20-21 team is the real canucks.

I hope we keep losing 7 GA every game and aquilini loses millions this season. Only way to see real change

And people want to trade him lol

Well people here are stupid. I said we should've traded Hughes and Petey for Eichel and Dahlin during the summer. But everyone was so in love with our players that they don't consider their deficiencies. I bet everyone here is willing to make the trade now.

maybe if Petersson doesnt turn it around this season, we have to trade him next season for someone who we can rely on. I would keep Horvat, Miller, Hughes, Garland, Hoglander, Podkolzin, Demko and OEL. Just build around those guys and trade the rest. That is the last option if the new coach we hire doesnt work which would be anyday now. Its a matter of when Green gets fired not If.

    Who's going to want Pettersson?
