  1. Since there's no any bonafide veteran on the team that have been to the last 2 olympics (well, I think Lu did but... I don't know is it a gd idea to give him the C...) I guess giving to Sid is the best option now. I would rather give the C to someone w/ more veteran Olympic experience like Niedermeyer was in 2010, but since this team is all relatively young, hopefully Sid will be able to calm the room down during desperate times and don't do immature and embarassing acts when things are going tough.
  2. Damn.... 2/2 1st round picks of 2013 injured. Talk about crappy luck.. Hope he can have a quick recovery....
  3. I guess is just Gillis plays his hands as safe as possible. Unless the situation is extremely dire, Gillis tends to pick players that are safe and won't have as many foreseeable issues in the future. Because of his Russian background, you can't help but to be worried when the player is about to hit Free Agency that he might bargain by threatening to bolt to the KHL. This way, Gillis won't be able to sign that player for cheap and will disrupt the... ideal or below market value contract structure that we have in our team. Look at Yakupov, his first year with the Oilers went down very productive. Boom, the next year he played bad and got benched and all these bad rumors surrounding him bolting to KHL and unhappy makes Oilers hard pressed to trade him if the situation continues to go in the bad direction. I think GIllis knows this team is going to need to retool or in the worst case scenario, rebuild. So he is trying to make sure his team at least have decent and safe but not spectacular but risky pieces to trade down the road. Seriously, with most of our core players near their 30s. How many of them can trade for really really good assets back that can play and replace their roles right away? Hope Horvat has a great game tomorrow morning. Go Canada!
  4. Higgins is a good supplementary 2nd line player. What I mean is he needs a good 1st liner or a dominant 2nd liner to play with. As long as Kesler can draw the attention of the defenders, Higgins will thrive. (so as Santo)
  5. I think is more like... we drafted Horvat and he is much flashier than Gaunce right now. People tend to think Horvat is a better version or Gaunce since they are both two way forwards, so they want to get rid of the "weaker" one for immediate help.
  6. I dunno, maybe is my Canucks fan favoritism in work. I think there's more to Gaunce then a 3rd line center. I think he can be a Top6 and perhaps a first line forward one day. The reason why I think like this is not because of any skills or nice goals or PPG or what not. Is just I really like how he has this really strong mentality and will to push himself. I think when a player reaches to the top level of playing a certain sport, like NHL in hockey, it really just boils down to who has the stronger mentality when playing and trying to steal a puck. Hopefully he proves me right, but I think I am just overthinking haha.
  7. I m surprised they split Brown and Fox.. they r ripping it up. I hope Gaunce plays w/ Brown and Fox.
  8. I disagree, we are at a different situation now compared to that time. At that time, we have lost a lot of games in a row and just convincingly defeated CBJ 6-2. Of course Torts want to keep that momentum changing swing going, so he had to use Lu, which we lost that game to Blackhawks as well. However, we are winning 4 straight right now and the team's playoff hopes are not in as much jeapordy. I think it is safer to let Lu rest now and start Lack tomorrow. This will be less risky for the team. Imagine if Lu gets injured tomorrow, we will have to play a Lack/ Ericksson or Cannata duo against Bruins, Wild, Dallas and Blackhawks (last 2 r back to back). I think tomorrow is a game that we should play safe.
  9. Although I don't worry much about these trades that can get to the media, since Canucks in recent memory don't have much trades that are known by the media waaaaaaaaay before being announced. But I am also worried about Erat. Isn't he in the exact same situation as Booth before? When we trade for Booth, Booth has the history of being a really good player prior to injury and is dropped down to the 4th line because he is unable to produce in Florida. Erat currently is playing on the 4th line for Washington as well due to his drop in play. I guess if we go Booth for Erat is ok as both are underperforming. Unless we somehow are able to trade some UFAs and scraps or Booth for Erat, I don't want Canucks to lose any assets for Erat.
  10. Seems like KGN really liked him, gave up a 2nd rounder + player for him I believe. I guess that's a good sign that he is a decent player that teams want (at least in the OHL level)?
  11. Gerbera

    Anton Rodin | RW/LW

Well since he seems to be playing better elsewhere injury free and we wasted a 2nd rounder on him and we retain his rights, why not try to salvage as much value out of him as possible?
  12. How many goalies does the duck have this year? 4? Fasth gibson andersen hiller? On topic, i like campbell n fasth's masks.
  13. O wait nvm... I think I clicked wrong
  14. If Brodeur is the starter for last Olympics, I would've agreed. But he couldn't even hold onto the starter's job 4 years ago, why pick him again to waste time on a goaltender where we could use that spot on another goalie. He had his legacy for long enough, time to pass the torch onto the next generation. Let fans rmb him for his glory not pan shot on the bench.
  15. Anyone else surprised that Canucks have not recalled Schroeder or other players? Usually we r the first to recall our prospects before playoffs and is awfully quiet this year ....
