  1. Not quite. At least with Boeser there's still the potential of him finding his game again and reaching his ceiling. Did you honestly ever feel that way with Canucks-era Ericsson?
  2. Imagine being either the Head Coach or GM of an NHL team in 2022 and he's your best option at RHD.
  3. Sure, but, Demko HAS to be better as well. I get sick of the pundits and talking heads in the Vancouver market always making excuses for him whenever he gives one up. ESPECIALLY on a breakaway. It's NEVER his fault.
  4. No thought on the timeline, but, yes, at some point he's probably going to be calling the shots from behind the bench this season. Even (hopefully) only for the duration of 2022-23.
  5. If you dump your 2 best players, what are you rebuilding for then, if not to surround them with building blocks? You get rid of those 2, and, you're getting rid of players just to be getting rid of players.
  6. Meh. Another retread. Why not AV then? Same difference in 2022-23. Best to keep your eyes peeled for a younger (than Crawford and AV) veteran NHL bench boss who hasn't yet reached retread status. And, possibly with a Pittsburgh connection. That rules out Johnston (mid-60's, plush WHL Portland gig), but maybe not Bylsma entirely, even though he's currently the Kraken's AHL guy, I think. Regardless, no way is Yeo the long-term answer. I don't see it.
  7. I'm not so sure. Remember when he took over in Pittsburgh and wasted little time sacking Bylsma? And, that 's a guy who had actually hoisted the Cup and set a franchise coaching wins record.
  8. If not injury, then, Bruce is maybe sending messages and firing up that blender. Anything to avoid the inevitable if things don't turn.
  9. Wasn't that the thinking amongst the Vancouver pundits last season? That the "group" was talented enough and maybe just needed an enhancement or 2?
  10. Always a treat listening to the experts between periods at 650 dissecting the problems after-the-fact with the help of multiple angle replay views.
  11. I’ve never given any indication in any of my comments since this has been a hot topic over the last 2 seasons that I’m “anti-Miller”. But, I definitely have a higher bar of what I think “leadership” entails than others might have. Miller is definitely a “franchise cornerstone” (Benning-speak), but, try as he/they might, the Vancouver Canucks haven’t had a true “leader” since Trevor Linden, if you ask me. As far as I’m concerned, he set the bar massively high in that department, and no one - including Henrik - has come anywhere remotely close to matching it.
  12. First-time GM hiring a second first-time Head Coach? What could possibly have gone wrong there? Especially with a first-time President of Hockey Operations overseeing it all. The wrong kind of trifecta for sure.
  13. I don’t think they really have any “leaders”, though. Certainly not amongst any of the guys from the last 2-3 years who aren’t here now. MAYBE Beagle. I think he’s definitely a “locker room guy” and why he was brought here in the first place. And, I think the change in Edmonton is down to 2 words: Dave Tippett. Same with the change in Calgary: Daryl Sutter.
  14. But, “brittle” and “contract extension” shouldn’t always go together though.
  15. Has Miller ever brought in “a pretty big haul” the 2 times he’s been traded already? As you said, “he’s an impact player”, but, he’s not a game-changer an NHL GM would bet the house on in a trade. I don’t think he’d fetch anything more substantial than a pretty big haul of bottom-6’rs. And, I can definitely see GMJB getting fleeced if he dealt him in desperation. MAYBE the Canucks would luck up and get a hidden gem of a prospect amongst them in return. But, that’s a pretty big “maybe”. Having said that, the Canucks are absolutely an even worse team without him. Because, if this truly is “Bo’s team”, that’s not really a comforting thought.
  16. But, is it toxic because of a specific player (J.T. Miller, specifically)? Or, is it toxic because of the overall culture that starts at the top?
  17. I whiffed on Garland. But, it’s WAY too early yet to shortlist Podkolzin. The sample size is just too small.
