You mean the booth deal where we ditched two old players and also picked up a 3rd which we used to draft Cassels, I'd make that deal any day. even with Booth going through the injuries.
Gillis tied up $19m of Aqua man's dough for a brain injured player that continued to suffer injuries as a Canuck.
That deal helped shut the window by denying Kes a second line winger when blowing the remaining available cap space on a multtiple, severely concussed player.
Gillis also recieved 35 year old Reinprecht in that deal,a player that never played in the NHL again, while paying out $2.175 m to ditch him in Chicago.
$21m for a third liner and a third rounder.

Looks like LA is headed for another cup win.
Don't really like Chicago and New York so it is all about watching talented, exciting hockey for me.
-
Ovie showing why the IIHF World Championship tournaments are relevant to Europe(eans).
Shirokov with a great effort.

Hopefully no more deals like the Ballard one
The Booth and Luongo deals come to mind, amongst others.

Excellent info about Benning!
Good article. Lots of character definition/history.
Scouting in the family and blood makes me feel comfortable having JB up front:
He is a scouting rink rat, a guy so addicted to assessing and projecting players that even in management Benning continued to attend many junior and college games.
He inherited the scouting chromosome from his father, Elmer, who at 73 has spent nearly four decades tracking amateur players in Alberta for the Montreal Canadiens.
“He’s very smart, very honest,” one scout said. “He knows who’s going to play and who isn’t. He knows what’s going on all the time. And don’t let that quietness fool you. He’s intense. When he walks on to the draft floor he looks like he’s ready to fight Mike Tyson.”
-
JB would be involved since the moment he decided to take the position.
He is intense and thorough and will be engrossed in every aspect towards improving this team.
-
Experienced NHL/Canucks d man that worked his way through organisations to command respect takes the position.
I 'm an optomisitc Canucks fan today.
-
Benning is a good fit and Trotz has had the good fortune of having an all -star d man anchor his team and cement his employment.
Let's hope the Canucks secure an all star d -man as their first move during or after the draft.

NHL.com: Benning expected to be named Canucks GM: report
Benning would replace Mike Gillis, who was fired last month by Canucks president Trevor Linden.
It has only been a few weeks and they can't get the story right.

Watching Horvat play live has been instructive. Biggest stage of his playing career and he has showed up and played well defensively.
He has not been offensively impressive so there is bound to be criticism.
Horvat could be looking at another year of juniors after his 9 game NHL trial and that reality has bummed out a lot of fans who thought he would come in here and be the instant saviour.
-
Skilled players want to play a skill game.
Gillis dismantled that to a certain degree and Torts brought that to a conclusion.
I hope the next coach and GM concentrate on puck possession and that begins from the back end.
The team needs to focus on the most talented, available offensive d man it can afford and work out from there.

Scheifle with the play of the game.
Canada was lucky to win that one.

Speaking of ridiculously long, the NHL playoffs began April 16th and will end in mid-June.
Last year it ended in the last week in June.
The NHL should use a different format to end the season in May again.
-
Bieksa playing a huge role on this team and he is firing rockets today.
Tight game so it's a good one.

McGuire is knowledgeable and worth listening to.

What bar?..
Two mile Gas and Diesel Bar, Anahim Lake, BC
Looks like a one horse town and the cops are serving coffee. With that said,I am sure somebody has a bar open in a basement in that small place.Be serving up double shots of Grand Marnier or Drambuie in that coffee for the Habs fans....
In Anahim Lake there are two general stores, one of which provides fuel and propane, a gas station, medical clinic, a restaurant, take out restaurant, and RCMP Detachment.

After what Messier did to tLinden in '94 I will never be a Rangers fan.
Great hockey being played and I am enjoying it.
Slats,Gretzky and Messier not so much.
-
Don't understand why so many people are Montreal fans,.....
It's the individual's exceptional skills on display that is the show.
It's not just about teams and that is what I don't understand with some fans and players.
Anihim Lake,B.C. is fairly represented.I can imagine the bars were open early up there.

Brad Richards makes JT look like more of an A hole in every game he plays
-
He's always just coasting around. Whatever happened to that explosiveness from his Columbus days?
Is he just in terrible shape or something?
Third concussion and two consecutive concussions this season.
The last one was a result of hit from behind by that outstanding human being,Milan Puke it.

FA cup final is in it's last five minutes of extra time beats Don Cherry unable to decipher acceptable behaviour.
-
The width of the Intl rinks weed out marginal skating skills and elevates the importance of stick skill- maintaining possession of the puck.
The North American game relies upon and emphasizes brute force to retrieve and possess the puck.
I prefer to see skills displayed.

Great to see the respect and love for Selanne.
44 in a few weeks,1500 NHL games and a PPG player.
Clean,classy and amazing.

"Erhoff is our savior"
We have that player already. His name is Garrison, who outproduced Erhoff last season.
Once again, the problem isn't the point and the defense. The problem is the Sedins. I know this is hard to see cognitively, but you're taking something that's wearing out and already starting to fail and spending big bucks on tinkering around to keep it from failing and chugging along.
The Sedins are the problem with the powerplay. Take them off the powerplay and see whether or not it improves.
Yeah, let's put Garrison on the worst team in the league and see how he does.
The twins were the best in the league with Ehroff. The team was the best in the league with Ehrhoff. The PP was the best in the league with Ehrhoff.
The problem is Garrison is not suited to play with the twins.Never was and never will be.
The team needed a cerebral playmaker ,not a plugger with a howitzer that never hits the target.

ECF: (4) Montreal Canadiens vs (5) New York Rangers

Marty turns 39 in a few weeks time.
What a player.
Hate NY but would love to see Marty hoist the cup and get the Conn Smythe / MVP award.
