I agree that we were not about to lose him and think it was more a combination of Clarke really liking him, wanting him to come over to play in N.A. and providing him with the capital to do that.

My understanding is that he would receive the signing bonus of 85k right away even though he is playing in juniors and that would have helped him greatly in making the move across the pond.

Makes sense.  Heck yeah 85k would be huge for these kids.

I have a suspicion that Ian Clarke saw something special in him and pushed JB to sign him. As for him coming to play in Canada; the signing may have been a factor; we will probably never know but it is nice to see him doing well. Disappointed that he didn't play last night but at least his team won.

But why? We weren't about to lose him.

Maybe he wouldnt have come over, like you say.

Maybe it's about giving the kids the funding to only worry about development?

Do they get that ELC money right away? Or just after they turn pro?

Just curious, certainly not trying to argue or hate on the kid.

Silovs had a shootout loss over the weekend, 22 saves on 24 shots, 0.917 SAV%.  Early goings, but he's currently ranked 3rd in the OHL for save percentage (0.933) and 4th for GAA (2.27), among goalies who have played 3 or more games.  Considering this is his first time playing on North American ice, good start for the 6th rounder.  Can see why Benning signed him early

I have always wondered about this.

We drafted him, so no matter what we own his rights for 3 years regardless of if we sign him?

Why would we sign a prospect if he isn't likely to make the roster immediately?

Couldn't you just let them marinate and save a roster spot?

Is it a show of good faith and some cash for the kid?

I'm not trying to knock Arturs, or any of the kids that get signed early, just curious about the thought process.

Thanks for the updates, it's great how well he is doing.

Strongly disagree. I love the 2011 team but the west coast express era was super skilled, big crashing bodies and a great defence. In my opinion it’s them or the 94 team that was the greatest. Sedins third liners? Come on, man.

The Sedins were just breaking into the league on the 3rd line during the height of the WCE. I don't think they were bashing the Sedins.

  5. They really knocked this out of the park!

I admit I was getting frustrated of him not signing before the team started skating but I am glad to see it get done.

The term is good, gives the Canucks control for next time and the Qualifying offer for his next contract is 5.8Mil which is extremely reasonable.

    Great job Canucks.

Glad he's back and I like the price tag.

He's motivated and happy to be home. He won't be taking nothing for granted. A nice improvement over Hutton who filled that role last season.

Hutton has rubbed me the wrong way since his sophomore season. I was a huge supporter of him in his first camp. I think he got to comfort getting to the NHL to soon.

    Too happy and smiley.

I don't want happy on defense.

I want Todd Bertuzzis snarly face and to hand out a beating if someone thinks our crease is a good place to setup shop, or that Petey would be a good person to practice their WWE moves on.

Don’t disagree with you at all...

On the other end you have teams where players don’t pay any tax, splashing the cash that’s given to them by mostly Canadian franchises as part of the equalization payments.

For sure there is the other side where equalization payments will be paying for that signing bonus.

I just don't want to see teams have their guys poached because I wouldn't want it to happen to us.

It's all within the rules but I guess the only Canadian team I want to see succeed is us.

World's worst kept secret. How was Florida not tampering?

I am really curious about this.  It has been broadcasted as a foregone conclusion for longer than the courting period.

There must have been something there, not suspicious to the league at all?

This is too much money for a goaltender,

Bob is one of the best in the league sure but goalies are so up and down I think it's hard to justify that much in net.

  9. I hope so, we'll see how the rest of the conference shapes up but we have definitely improved.

Alot will ride on Petterson not having a sophomore slump and goaltending.

This is the first year since the rebuild I am optimistic about their chances to make it to the dance.

Living out of province and working as much as I do, I find it hard to watch games or haven't tried as hard as I did when we were a playoff team in the past.

Most my time is spent reading up on prospects and how the graduated ones have been looking.

Watched more for Petterson last season

This season I will be trying to watch as many as I can and see how this group is coming along, I think we are in for exciting hockey and they have a good shot at the playoffs.

I'm really surprised that Myers took all these terms

    1) 6 million imo leaves potential frenzy money on the table.  That is a mere 500k uptick on his previous market value.

    2) 5 years term - again, probably could have milked more out of his free agent leverage, particularly as arguably the best D available.

    3) Also willing to be exposed in the expansion draft.  That part is a bit shocking considering 1 and 2.

It looks like he really wants to be here.

I'd love to know Green's thoughts on this signing - I think it's very unlikely that he doesn't approve - so it will be interesting to hear him comment on it.

I'm quite content with all 3 points.

Goes with what I preach on signing reasonable deals to ensure your team has a chance to retain its players and be a playoff team.

This deal shows good character to me already and someone who wants to be here.  What's not to like about that?

Heavily sheltered in terms of quality of competition and in his offensive zone deployment.

What does Hutton have to do with any of this? I am very happy with the Benn signing, that's a great contract imo.  9m is only 3m above the Myers signing, but 1) Subban is a legitimate top pairing defender who would've looked fantastic beside Edler and 2) his contract only goes for 3 more years, which is perfect.

Apparently we wanted the Preds to retain salary while NJ was ok with no retention, so the team tried to trade for Subban first.  Myers was the consolation prize I guess.  Not a big believer in change just for the sake of change, which this sorta feels like.  Anyways I don't care for this player or contract, guess I'm in the minority here.

I would have preferred Subban, I think we could have fit his full cap.

Myers on a decent contract like the one rumored is alright and hopefully he does well here but he isn't a #1 like Subban could be on a team other than Nashville.

JB wouldn’t want PK in our young room.

He has targeted him twice according to rumors so I dont think that's true.

People always making their own narratives but the majority of what I have read is that PK is liked in the room, on the ice and off the ice.

It's one or two people he rubs the wrong way and the rest of the team loves the guy.

I think he would have been fine here,

    Definitely would have sold tickets.

His injuries have largely been blind head shots etc. That's not soft. He battles along the boards just fine, goes to the net etc.

Yeah, he has 'trouble' taking dirty hits to the head

Fair enough, hopefully he can have a healthy season and show me wrong.

I don't have anything against him, just tired of our top 6 being victims.

Go look where he scores from.

I understand about 70% of his goals are from right in front of the net and in the slot, he certainly is willing.

Unfortunately it has resulted in injuries for him,  he has missed 82 games over 2 seasons and in those 2 seasons only put up 23 goals total.

I don't find him to be hard on the puck or on the boards, I don't find he protects the puck very well, and it is showing that he can't take the beating you have to endure infront of the net to be productive long term.

    I think he's soft, that's my opinion.

You can only have so many of those guys.

We need puck hounds and toughness to compliment the more finesse guys we have.

If Nyquist is one of the better finesse guys then maybe he could be a good fit.

People called the Sedins soft but they could take a beating.

Baertschi can't, and doesn't give it out either.

Anyway that's my take on it, I would be happy to hear yours in more than 6 words or just a confused face.
