I don't think Florida is necessarily tax free, more like low taxes… there are laws and ways in Canada around taxes that work in our favour as well, they are just not as straightforward and take a player who is more interested in saving as opposed to living the highlife and spending now.

Florida does not have a state income tax, but the Federal income tax of course still applies. So do property, sales tax, etc.

It's not quite as lop-sidded as some make it out to be though. An NHL player's income is deemed earned at the location the game in played. So for Tampa only half of their income (okay, slightly more than half with away games in other states without state income tax) is in the lowest tax jurisdiction.

Samuelsson, Higgins, Raymond, Hansen, Burrows to your top 6... it was a good support cast but not even close to what we have today and not enough to win anything.

The 2009/10 team had all 6 top 6 forwards score 25+ goals. That has never happened (on any team) since then.

When you say flaky I hope you are talking about the blogger because to me this is about as flaky of an article as I have ever seen. Not a single source quoted or referenced and just pure speculation.

Yeah, "nhltraderumors(dot)me" is not a legit source.

I would imagine even if Hamonic comes back, is he in shape? Not sure what his situation is or has been, but if it's family related he may not be sticking to a strict workout and diet routine.

Really excited to see what kind of season Petey and Hughes have - both seem charged and focused on playing. After signing new big contracts they'll want to prove they deserve the money.

The stars could be aligning in VAN.

Boeser, Horvat, Hoglander and Demko are all very good and aren't making huge money yet. Podkolzin, Gadjovich, Lockwood and Rathbone are real good, cheap rookies about to take the next step. These savings allow VAN to have Pearson, Garland, Myers, Hamonic and... Miller - who provides such passion and energy when he's on. A real leader. Ekman-Larsson finally getting an opportunity to play for a team in a hockey market. Not to mention Petey and Hughes who are going to want to prove themselves even more this year.

That's a good question. When he opted out of the bubble playoffs, he said there were stretches where he didn't leave his daughter's side 24/7, he slept on the floor in her room. Not a lot of time for training/skating.

Now, none of us know if it's the same situation this Fall, but that's a possibility.

then why doesn't he take draws if he's a cman?  They threw him to the wolves last year a bit and he wasn't very good.  I do think he'll get there, he just isn't there yet.  He needs to improve his face off skills and bulk upif he wants to be a legit top line cman.

The C is supposed to engage on the boards less in the offensive zone, cover the net front, and cover for defencemen when they go to the corner in the D zone, make entries and exits through the middle of the ice, has a higher degree of decision-making responsibilityfor directing where the play goes. Centres have a lot of important duties. Miller takes the draws simply because he's better it and it plays to his strenths. Petey is better at just about everything else a C does. And Miller is better at the increased board-work required of a winger.

Miller takes the draw, then plays LW during the play.

  6. I was pondering over policy ideas and this popped into my head: Legislative ammendedment to the tax code of a 10% across the board income tax increase that expires at the end of the 2024 tax year. And a tax credit that fully offsets the increase if you provide proof of vaccination.

Don't want the shot? Fine, but then you're paying for all the extra doctors, nurses, and ICU beds we need.

I am an alcoholic. Today is day one of detox. Any support is very much welcomed. If anyone would like to pm me and chat that would be great too.

I hope you're doing well 3 weeks in, and I hope you have some good support around you! Booze is a cruel bitch and a fearsome enemy. It's not just 'grit' and 'will power' that's needed to defeat it, we need treatment. What that treatment is will be different for each of us, but I sincerely hope you find what you need. 5 years and 88 days sober myself, I feel you

Yes, OEL was hanging pretty good with his group for the first couple of runs of the bag skate. But he REALLY hit the wall hard on the final run.

Olli was already lagging behind on the first run and by the last…well, y’all saw.

Its possible, but it’s also just speculation that Olli may be suffering COVID effects. But it’s a plain ol fact that he looked like the least conditioned athlete out there today. By a large margin.

I see the OJ defence force putting in the work here, but my eyes confirmed to me that I’m not out of bounds with my take on the player today.

My vote is he went overboard when he was celebrating being back with his team mates the night before. These young guys aren't used to hangovers yet.

Is it the same for swedes? Might explain why Petey webt to Michigan.

I don't think so, but I'd have to dig into the actual treaty. I'm like 70% sure it only applies to US citizens who are deemed US residents for income tax purposes, but it migh be any US resident (regardless of nationality). Petey would have to move to the US and spend his whole offseason there though

Can anyone forward this to Benning? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes I wonder if the "hold out" is not a hold out at all. Quinn is just trying to rack up his days as a US resident (after playing in the Canadian Division in 2021) so that the signing bonus he receives on this deal can be eligible for that tax treatment. Remember, the tax year is a calendar year and not a hockey season.
