Just because you are on a 2nd line doesn’t mean you are a bonafide 2nd liner. Raymond, Pearson, Booth, Pyatt, Samuelson, Sutter, Leivo, etc have all been 2nd liners, should they?
Bonafide 2nd liners stay on the 2nd line consistently. Bonafide and Miller shouldn’t be used in the same sentence. Could Miller become a bonafide 2nd liner? Sure, but he isn’t at the moment.
His lowest points in4 seasons is 43, I guess that’s third line production.
you know nothing about the player and just want to try and look smart lol
get out of here with your unbacked complaints

56, 58, 47 points last 3 seasons what is that, third line production to you?

Would you idiots rather have a bonafide top6 forward in his prime to play with horvat and boeser or MAYBE develop an NHL’ player who plays 300 games with that pick lmao

The condition better be winning a Stanley Cup, a 1st round pick for JT Freakin Miller? HAHAHAHA fail
HAHAHA do people still think the trade is good?
You’re on glue bro.. what do you expect to give up for 26 year old, versatile 40-55 point wingers on cap friendly deals with term..
if we never try and improve our team we’ll never be good.

Looking at recent Russian forwards that were drafted with high picks, it's kind of baffling how many don't turn out. They obviously have one of the best development programs in the world, but alot of their highly ranked forwards don't pan out.
Notable Russian forwards drafted with high picks:
Burmistrov
Yakupov
Grigerenko
Nichushkin
Filatov
Why would this be? Are they too concerned with playing a certain style and aren't able to adapt to team play? Are they more focused on big bucks than improving their skills? Or is the culture shock just too much for some of them that they can't integrate to North American culture?
Whatever it is it seems to happen alot with the higher drafted players. Egos coming into play perhaps?
That being said one thing that stands out is Podkolzins work ethic. Something Russian players often get criticized for. I don't think he'll have a problem getting minutes if he plays with that kind of motor. So maybe we avoid that whole drama surrounding playing time. He also seems to recognize he has weaknesses in his game as well, so perhaps ego is not a problem. The fact that he has been a captain at various times speaks alot to his chracter too.
I just hope they are patient with him and don't try to force him to be a star too soon. Alot of those previous players had their development wrecked by being rushed.
5 guys from 5 diffferent years in like a 8 year span, I tend to veer away from Russian players but thats a pretty cherry picked list.
2008-2013
2008 Kyle Beach 11th overall
2010 Brett Connollly 6th overall
2012 was a god awful draft for Canadian forwards in general
2013 Lazar, Shinkaruk ect

Big steal, was ranked top 5 most of season.
The fact he has two years on contract is not a worry what so ever, we will need good young talent on ELCs when we are ready to contend.
Character is definitely not an issue if JB was willing to pick him IN Vancouver. His game oozes Canadian play-style is absolutely relentless and plays 110% passion and wears his heart on his sleeve.
This guy IS NOT a finesse, dangle you sniper type of Russian player, he's a puck hound, in your face, dump it in and beat everyone to the puck, sheer force of will, I want it more than you type of player, he reminds me of a Russian cross of a meaner Horvat X Virtanen.
-Horvat
Goes all in every night, competes for his teammates, very well rounded game, heavy on the boards. Complete 3 zone player, Good all around offensive tools but not elite in any aspect, stride needs work but can be corrected.
-Virtanen
Possesses elite physical attributes but the IQ isn't quite up to par, has elite north-south potential. Can go from the d-zone up the ice on an end-to-end rush in matter of seconds. Honestly Podkolzin is an a lot more refined version of Virtanen in their draft years, this is because Podzolkin is already been playing mainly against men in Russia's AHL,
Podzolkin seems to be gritter than both Horvat and Virtanen in the sense he has the tenacity to get in your face and be more chippy than just playing a heavy game. He can throw big hits against men and isn't afraid to back it up
his KHL rights are owned by SKA a powerhouse franchise that are notoriously hard to negotiate with, and are also known to not include young players in their squad as they can afford to buy players every year.
2021-2022
Big name FA/Trade - Petey (8-11M) - Podkolzin ( 900k) elc
Or
FA - Petey - Boeser
FA/Virtanen - Horvat - Podkolzin

Good value, Term and dollar are perfect looks like Eddie really does value being a Canuck and it should show people that it seems like Vancouver takes care of their guys pretty good.I like how it ends as Petey's ELC ends, Like other posters above have said, I believe this gives Benning room to move our D around a bit. Tanev/Hutton or both could be gone at draft.
-
I actually like this move a lot, take advantage of Florida wanting Panarin, Package would probably be our second this year + our third or B prospect.
Might seem low but it could only be for one year as he is UFA next year, is 29 years oldand will command big money, 70 points likely his career high, but alongside petey he is a 30-30 guy for 4-5 seasons
Florida does this as its addition by subtraction, opens up the possibility of a Minnesota-esque FA day for Florida, as well as getting assets for a guy they wont be able to keep next year if they sign Bob/Panarin this year

Brian Burke is the one who said that.
Teams who rely to much on one trait lose in the first two rounds. You have to be balanced, speed & skill, Size & Grit, Special teams but most of important is the intangibles, the Bryan Bickells, Maxime Talbots, Fernando Pisanis of the playoffs are how you win cups, you need 1 guy to play way beyond his means and score some big goals.

I think Woo and Rathbone are knocking on the door as early as this training camp. As they earn it, they find their way in. That situation will maintain our D once we have the core. Likely some D emerge from our next could drafts as well.
Rathbone isn't signed IIRC, committed to Harvard for likely 2 more years

As many have said, and it is the most important factor, big UFA signs almost ALWAYS backfire/don't live up/underwhelm.
As also mentioned, injury prone and will be 29 by season start. With how much he will command (and easily get), it's an easy pass.
Tavares looked pretty good last year

From your lips to God's ears...
His progression has be undeniable although he started way behind where he should have. It’s not unrealistic for him to score 20+ next year If Jake is a consistent 15-20 goal guy who could potentially be one of those playoff guys then I’m happy with the pick.

So you’re are okay with Utica winning and Kole not being a key cog in the machine and letting his talents sit there in a DEVELOPMENT League? Or would you rather he be a key piece turning the team into the winning team maybe having to go through some hardships before that all comes?
Or are you ok with Utica breading us all these fringe NHL players?
Lol if he was good enough to be a key cog on the team he would be, but he’s not even close. Gifting players icetime doesn’t make them better

Yikes winning environment isn’t that Crucial... going through some adversity in your development isn’t bad either....
I wonder what the guy in your avatar would say about that?
being around winning does wonders for your mentality
-
A winning environment is just as crucial as enough ice time for developing, throwing kids into roles they’re not ready for means lost games = losing environment

Oh really? We develop them better by not playing them? The better plan is to put them down to a level where they can play, and raise them as they learn.
Lmao playing a kid every game of the year for his first pro season is a recipe for disaster

Yes I think putting our prospects in more of a position to find their game and grow is a better idea then making them sit and watch
not saying gift it to them in the NHL but god man isn’t the AHL a developmental league
ice time isn't just how you develop players

- A 29 year old agitator for 4 years x 3 million, what a steal!
- Beagle is overpaid and his term was way too long. That signing will bite us in the ass for sure. Not really sure why you brought it up.
- Wow, Schenn is not a career AHLer anymore, what a coup getting him off waivers. He will turn this franchise around in a hurry! Oh wait, we traded Del Z who later fetched a 6th round pick.... oops
- Leivo is probably the best trade he has made as a GM...that is not good enough.
- Granlund was net positive ..... yes, but that doesn't say much given what Shinkaruk turned out to be. One could argue JB missed his chance to cash in on Granny after his 20 goal season. He has regressed hard since then.
You realize Roussel set a career high and would have smashed it barring injuries. He’s worth every dollar

Lind, Gad, Palmu, dalhen are all routinely scratched in favor of AHL journeyman in Utica. I know they want to win but it is a development league after all. I didn't think PP would ever make it to the NHL ftr.
If they’re good enough they wouldn’t be scratched now would they
