I understand that but we had one pick after the 4th so need to take swings you can.

I think you also need to remember who the cohort that entered the draft 2 years ago. These were the kids who had the 2 years leading to the draft during COVID. There were bound to be some late bloomers that missed development time that are now blossoming. These aren’t the normal D+1 and D+2 player situations.
Again the assumption that every player that gets passed over in draft will sign here is foolish.

Good point and fair enough. I hope whatever our scouts saw in these guys was worth the inherent "risk" of grabbing over-agers, and they end up being good pieces for us either in Abby or Van.

remember folks, didn't we get Pavel Bure in like the 7th round, way back ?

To be fair, most of the league didn't think Bure was eligible for the draft lol. I'd venture to bet that will never happen again.

Only thing is signing them takes up a contract spot while drafting them gets you their rights while they develop.

Every year there's interesting college UFA's, maybe your getting someone a year or 2 early that would've otherwise been a hot commodity.

For example imagine taking Alito Hirose last year, would've been the same hand wringing but looks how great he looks now a year later.

Fair enough - although for me we would have been better suited grabbing over-age D like you mention, as opposed to these light-weight centers we grabbed. Less chance that they become a factor in the NHL with their frame pretty much already filled out.

But what's done is done, and they are Canucks now - so I hope they tear it up for us and prove me wrong.

Ah yes the one team in the league theory of signing available players.

    ???
These players have been passed on by EVERY TEAM at least once, one of them has been passed on by every team twice. There is little risk or competition to sign these guys in free agency. Lol.

Really people are that upset with 4th round picks. Normal course would be none of them get to the league.
We have filled  massive holes in prospect pool, focused on D an C! And the one winger we have drafted is a 6’6” project.
No other picks until 6th round. This is where needed to take swings.

Bro, the 4th round is not where you take D+2 and D+1 players that you can easily sign in a couple of days on July 1st. That's what people are upset about. Take players with upside, it's not hard.

It’s sad that fans are acting disappointed if we don’t make one more move.

    we’ve added:

    Hronek

    Beau

    Raty

    Bloom

    Kravtsov

    picks

the only players we moved out were:

    Bo

    Lazar

    schenn

    stillman

i think we’ve done quite well.

We were actually the only non-playoff team to lose draft capital the last 2 weeks. So no we didn't add picks.

If the deadline ends with JT on the roster, and this rumour is somehow confirmed, then this is a huge miss for management.

The 8m is savings alone next year gives us lots of money to get a decent UFA centre to fill the hole temporarily

    The two firsts? Come on.

I can't believe management would be this incompetent

    I can.

Ideal situation, what kind of player would you draft with that NYI pick? If everything pans out after 2 years..

Could make the case: a 2nd line C or Top 4, 25 yo RHD now.

I'd do just to keep Petey and Hughes happy

Well, people are comparing it to the 2015 draft, so lets take a look.

Canucks potentially just traded the ticket to the next Chabot, Boeser, Ek, Connor, Barzal, DeBrusk, Konecny, Beauvillier, Merkley etc
    Time will tell tho.

He will fit right in with these kind of atrocious drop passes!

That about does it for me for my hope in this franchise turning it around anytime soon. Such a terrible year in P.R, management, drafting, pro scouting.. I'd be hard pressed to name one thing this new management excels at.

As usual in Canucks fashion, they get your hope up (in this case a series of good trades) only to lay a massive steamer right on your chest.
Everyone wants RHD, yes. But we aren't in the position to be trading two top 64 picks in the deepest draft since 2015 for a defensively questionable player that Yzerman clearly saw not enough in to warrant him being apart of his core.
    Absolute joke.

As much as I love Bruce.. If Barry Trotz drops a hint that he is wanting to come back into the coaching world.. Aquaman better be prepared to add another coach to his long pay-roll list.. Maybe Barry's style is more of a fit for this team, a style that can squeeze a strong team defensive play-style even out of a line-up like we have.

How are Kadri and Huberdeau old?  They can skate as well as any two players in the league and have conditioning for days.  Both are elite players, esp Huberdeau who is the best winger in the game.

Kadri is 32 when the season starts. 39 when his contract expires.
Huberdeau is 29. 39 when his new contract expires.
Pretty sure the "Prime" for forwards is usually 26-32. After that you are considered "Old" and most players start getting incrementally worse every year after that.
Calgary might have some cap issues with some old former superstars mailing it in as soon as 3-4 years.

  12. Really glad we didn't have any interest in him. He ain't worth $7M for all the pucks that will be going into his own net when he is on the ice, and his zone entry and advanced stats last season and playoffs were pretty terrible for a supposed $7M player. He is good offensively but not sure that outweighs the bad parts of his game.
