2nd round vs Cup finals. We're more embarrassing

Not embarrasssd at all. Like most people, I’ve moved on. Same thing happens a lot in hockey. Not sure why that incident continues to be brought up.

. Sedin was at least hoping to draw a penalty.
If he  was a Laff, the media would have dismissed the incident as “ not in his game to retaliate”

    But no, Vancouver.

Pittsburgh apparently wants Dubas but they are going to give him the necessary time to think about it.  Friedman says it's been a whirlwind for him so he wants to take his time but he also speculates that he might want to see who wins the bidding in Ottawa as that would be another potential landing spot.

I don’t see a good fit for Dubas in Pitts. Pens have most of their cap invested in a few key players, which is what TO had, only Pens guys are older.
Ottawa might be a better landing spot.

Just sad that as a 54 year old franchise, all we can boast is a meaningless trophy and an appearance in a final, where we hold an embarrassing GF/GA ratio and our star players got humiliated for being passive (insert GIF of Marchand punching Daniel repeatedly)

Why not swap in the Marner getting bitch slapped by Chucky? I know that the TO media would rather try to humiliate Canucks for something that happened over a decade ago, but the Marner thing was just as bad, was more recent, and it happened right in their backyard.

Terrible period... This isn't the Kamloops team that played all year. Also don't think Ernst is playing well tonight, not that all the goals are on him but 2-3 are.

Ernst has been shaky. Coughing up rebounds all game. Hope he can find his game.

The layoff since the playoff loss to Seattle hasn’t helped either. Team seems rusty.

  5. Canadian hockey players can defer tax on a huge chunk of their salaries each year by setting up a Retirement Compensation Arrangement. (RCA). Sophisticated financial planning companies make an application wit Revenue Canada, backstopped by an actuarial valuation. They end up not paying taxed on the deferred portion until it is withdrawn from the plan.

Agent Allan Walsh claims that Canadian team players can limit their annual tax to a flat 20% a year.

My tax practice has a number of NHL, AHL, ECHL and European hockey players and scouts as clients. I lost an opportunity to work for a prominent player on Canadian team because I wasn’t  sold on the idea that an RCA would work for him. It all falls apart if the player needs the money now to spend on property, investments and lifestyle.

That LTIR allowed them to add Stone at the end of the regular season. Not a small advantage. The state tax situation is also a huge difference maker in attracting players. The deck is stacked heavily against Canadian teams in particular.

Agreed. The tax situation is a major problem for the Canadian teams and the NY and California teams.
These teams should band together to press for changes in the salary cap, to find a way to work it on an after tax basis.

Reminds me of all those goalies that looked decent in Arizona because of the team defense in front of them. He's not making huge saves just making the ones he should.

Also, Vegas is playing with a ~96,000,000 cap in a state with no income taxes. This league "parity" is a joke.

96 m includes the LTIR salaries of Shea Weber, Nolan Patrick and Robin Lehner.  Not really big difference makers in the great scheme of things.

The league has some goofy rules that most teams take advantage of.

  8. Florida finished the season with 92 points, one less than the Calgary Flames who had 93

Fla only got into the dance because the Blah Hawks went into Pittsburgh and beat the Penguins in the final week of the season.

It is amazing how different the narrative about FLA and the Flames is. The difference between success and failure in the NHL is razor thin.
