What I have seen (and not saying it is valid) is that Canucks want to keep in 7.5 range and obviously JT is more looking 8.5-9M which I think is market value.
‘Man if I was one of these guys late 20s I would be signing no more than 2-3 years from now, the cap is going to balloon once the league is paid back for COVID.Or...the next global pandemic hits and WW3 erupts and the global economy crashes, making any long term deals signed now look brilliant for them. You just never know.

I don't mean to sound negative but as much as I like Miller as a player, where he's at and where the team is at don't align IMO and to me regardless of term and AAV, if this organization is serious about long term sustainable competitiveness, then Miller needs to be moved for as much as we can get.
This team can't keep doing the same thing it's always seemingly done...signing long term and expensive deals for players in their 30's and eventually ending up with no prospect depth and pipeline.

I've driven out to a game in Kanata and always wondered why they put a bloody rink out in the middle of nowhere at the time.
Actually I was more interested in seeing tech giant Nortel's head office campus than that ugly rink anyway.
Great move to go downtown and the renderings look beautiful. Good luck to them.

I guess Kuzmenko wasn't as impressed with Mess as Connor was. LOL.

Wait a minute.
How did that Canucks swag get into Russia with all these restrictions and embargo's?

Well, he won't be choosing the team based on what he had for dinner or the free gifts he receives. I think it comes down to (1) will he get primo ice time, (2) does the team have a chance to win.
CAR - Will he get the ice time?
EDM - Will he get the ice time?
VGK - They just took on Weber's contract, they aren't winning
LA - Maybe the best fit, outside of VAN
VAN - Not a playoff team yet, but he will play
“He will play. You know he’ll play! He’ll play on crutches! He will play! And he’ll play at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night!”

Expecting Allvin to announce shortly that the Canucks are ditching the blue and green for the blue and yellow.

It seemed highly likely to me that it was him from the beginning, but after over a year to show up at the home, arrest him and take him in knowing it would be front page news to release him and not charge him does smack of desperation and a possible publicity stunt timed for her 50th birthday.
It's painful to watch from the outside and I can't imagine what family and friends are going through.

So maybe the Bruins will be tanking for Bedard after all.
Well run teams seem to find a way to end up bad for one or two years and drafting high in those years where there are elite franchise prospects are available to be drafted. Or at least it feels that way.

I firmly believe that new management is in retool mode for the next couple years and expect (hope) that they'll maximize the return of prospects and picks for Miller/Boeser to get that started right away.
We're not in a position to be paying a 30 year old coming off a career year the kind of numbers being bandied about at this point of the teams cycle. I hope we can remain competitive but I'm willing to accept a couple years of pain if I see a real plan by management being carried out.

If he works really really really really hard, the dominoes fall correctly, and Jupiter aligns with Mars in the Northern Hemisphere in February then there's a chance he could possibly become a third liner in a couple of years.
Sarcasm aside, we need more depth in our prospect pool on the farm. But this feels like a JR/PA type of Penguins signing where that organization seems to always have a pipeline of valuable depth players coming up like Guentzel, O'Conner, Rust, Marino...etc all in that mid-20's age range. Getting Nils over here soon at his age now to develop for a couple of years then makes sense.

Sounds like the trade rumours of Miller to the Rangers is over. They don't need him. Copp has been real good. Lafreniere and Chytil have also been good, so the Canuck won't get either of them. Forget about Schneider.
Canucks will re-sign Miller
Yup this is why I was hoping they'd move him at the last deadline where his value was likely it's highest.
Still think they need to move him though.

Good summary.
Basically saying what management has been saying for a few months now. Creating cap space and depth means at least one of our top players currently on the team may not be around much longer so the lead-up to the draft has me really excited.
I really like what I'm hearing but we shall see.

I don't think management is playing hardball with BB at all.
They've been pretty clear about what both parties agreed to when he was hired. The team exercised it's option so now it's over to Bruce. He wasn't forced to signed the deal when he was hired so why is there an expectation in the media and this market that he's suddenly owed an additional extension based on a portion of a season?
Now I'm not an analytics person at all and I find it all quite overwhelming tbh, but outside of the shiny and sparkly record the second half of the season, there's a lot of analytics that suggest that the way this team plays, the "structure" if you will, is not that good and not conducive to longer term winning. Which is why I believe management is not sold on Bruce and may want to institute a coach or staff sooner rather than later so that will be able to create the analytics-positive data that they want to see as soon as possible.
Maybe they're actually hoping he opts out of his option? I think the option deadline is mid-June. We'll see.

New management pretty much responsible for the Pens team we're watching in the playoffs right now. Yes, I understand that they have high end players, but they have so many that I've never heard of.
And that's where management wants to get to with our team. Not get emotionally attached to anyone other than a handful of core players and manage the rest of the assets to increase depth. To create an environment where they can plug and play non-core players into a system or style of play so that discussion around Motte and Richardson and other players becomes moot.
Just plug and play.

So uh, for those wondering *sniff* Mark recchi was let go of the Devils org yesterday.
JR and Allvin have experience with Recchi as former player dev coach and then director and then Assistant coach in Pitts under JR
Just uh, you know.
Don't even go there. LOL

I just have a feeling it won't be here.
Management has being prepping us for a while now. I just hope we hit the motherlode and get a great haul of high picks/prospects/players.

I find all this consternation about the presser quite amusing.
After hearing what both JR and PA had to say, I actually came away feeling really good and comforted that this organization is finally in the hands of a management team (emphasis on team) that knows what they're doing and has a plan to build this organization at all levels for long term competitiveness be it composition of the team, practice and medical facilities, scouting system...etc.
IMO, the message from them has been pretty consistent for the last 3 months and this seems to have been lost with many in the media and these boards simply focused on and blinded by the teams' record since the coaching change without hearing what's been said all along... "lack of depth", "lack of speed", "lack of structure", "lack of prospects"...are all things that have been communicated by JR and PA for a few months now. How will this play out? Who knows, but they could do a lot if they can maximize the value of Miller in the offseason. Yes that trade would hurt in the short term but I'm prepared for a step back next season in order to get our house in order.
For the first time we may have a management team that doesn't appear to have any intention of managing by fan expectation and to just try to make the playoffs with short term job-preserving decisions. That's why we are where we are to begin with no?
I'm looking forward to an exciting summer.

@JM_ That animal welfare and research might not be at the top of their priority list.
Not saying they're poor owners because I don't know that and I don't know what their reputation is with their other aquariums. But cutting corners to make bottom line look better could become an option.

Considering the owners are in the entertainment field, sadly I'm not surprised at this news.

Comical, I have heard the New York media, even the Boston media on their valuations of assets that could snag the Bruins or Rangers a Miller for example. I laugh at all this talk about " if Vancouver is serious about trading Miller they need to understand the Rangers won't move player X or player Y as they are as close to untouchable as one can be.
Hello!?
The Canucks have zero reason to be pressured into a move and they can be as serious as they want in regards to Miller when they DON'T have to trade him, but teams want him. I know some here are trying to temper expectations or feel CDC always over values the Canucks players. JT Miller is one case where you can literally sit back and demand the sky's the limit in regards to returns. If the Rangers want Miller, buck up or look elsewhere. If Allvin names his price or isolates a specific player in return pay it or the team keeps him.
From what i've heard is Drury already tabled an offer and the Canucks did not even flinch, he doesn't take that type of response well (is his character) reported in the media and that may have rubbed the Rangers the wrong way. Again, not the Canucks problem. If nobody pays up before the deadline the Canucks are the one's who retained the best asset out there lol.
JR is an old hat at this negotiating game so I love hearing he's irritating a young GM who's maybe not used to dealing with a Jedi Master.
Feels good for a change to know that our guy actually knows how to play the game.

We all miss playoff hockey for sure. But I'm also done with the one and done every few years.
So I'm OK with short term pain over the next couple seasons. Now is the time to start maximizing the value of assets so we can get back to the playoffs regularly.

It's amazing how having confidence in our new management team has reduced my trade deadline stress. I haven't felt this calm in the leadup to a trade deadline in I don't know how long.
Maybe ever.
I'm genuinely excited about what's to come.
Listening to Rutherford from day 1 the message has been pretty consistent about his plan moving this team forward. It's not about having to win a trade today to save his job, or trying to make the playoffs to get a couple of home dates in another one and done playoff performance. It's about building this team to become a consistent contender year after year. Finally. The message has been the same...to build up teams' speed, skill and depth. Develop and trade for tradeable assets so they can make some noise at the poker table year after year.
Instead of years of re-signing players like Miller, Boeser, Motte, Horvat (for example) until they have much less value at the end of those contracts, my gut tells me we'll see these types of players moved at the deadline to maximize return. A big deal or two won't help us short term but I'm good with it because of the long term plan. Asset management has always been a problem here and I think most of my stress has always been due to my lack of confidence in the people running the team.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what happens over the next 2 - 3 weeks. The Toffoli trades sets an initial bar. Let's strap ourselves in and enjoy the ride.
My body is ready.

I'm torn about this. While good that Aquaman has now hired two veterans to help steer the titanic, the cynic in me thinks this confirms my worst fears about the owner wanting to continue to meddle in hockey operations going forward by hiring unproven first timers in those roles or old coots who will be willing to make a deal with the devil and put up with the meddling just to get one last kick at the cat before getting put into a retirement community in Florida or Palm Springs.
Talk about a history of trading away draft picks. Rutherford should be in the "mortgage the future" Hall of Fame and makes Benning look like an amateur.
