This is Demko’s “Washington” game. Hopefully he will learn from this one. He had a fantastic 1st 2 periods, and then the 3rd was... well...

I don't think there's much Demko could've done in the third to be fair. I feel like I remember at least one or two of the goals being Marky's fault vs WSH.

Not clamoring for Demko to start at all, just the way I saw it.

Notice it’s those with the SJW divine powers to determine what others are thinking, who use the confused emoji.  You can determine what Cherry meant, but are confused by what’s written?

Personally I feel bullied.  My opinion, because I’m old, doesn’t matter and is determined to be confusing, and therefore of no value.

I disagree with you Alf, but I apologize for those that are coming at your very strongly. It's your right to have an opinion.

We're all Canucks fans and this thread separates us and it has nothing to do with hockey anymore. I think it should be locked.

I used to not be a fan because it seemed like the guy had a screw or two loose... But at the end of the day he's one of the few entertaining guys left with Rogers.

As an immigrant I have absolutely no problem with what he said. He's passionate and he wanted to raise more awareness for donations to vets.

No reason to watch HNIC anymore. Thank God for streaming... I'll take the US broadcasts over Roger's any day of the week.

Its really a shame he gets fired for standing up for the men that fought for our freedom.

What a joke. I already had 0 respect for Roger's, can't really go any lower than this.

Except he didn't get fired for standing up for the men that fought for our freedom. You're very obviously twisting the situation.

He got fired for unnecessarily bashing and speaking down to those who showed no disrespect towards the men that fought for our freedom. The idea that it's disrespectful to not wear a poppy is ignorant enough, but to single out "you people" that "come here and love our way of life" (which clearly means immigrants unless you're choosing to believe otherwise) is as bad as it gets for a TV vet.

He did sweet all, smurf hockey too small. Playing fine isn't good enough.

So tell me, who played more than fine last night?

Nobody did. So Why are you acting as if Baertschi was the main problem last night. It’s pretty clear that you don’t like Baertschi to begin with and you’re attempting to use his performance last night to add to your opinion.

No one who is unbiased about Baertschi watches last night’s game, and comes out with the conclusion that he was a main problem.

  5. Sure Newell Brown's tactics might be outdated and the drop pass is quite infuriating when it doesn't work, but the players have to take responsibility as well. They were incredibly soft on the powerplay. Can't just always blame the scapegoat.

With the way the PP units are playing right now no coach is going to fix that. It starts with the players. I understand CDC has loyalty to the players and don't care much for Newell Brown, but harping on just Brown is quite ignorant.

I only got to watch the third, but I don't think effort was the problem.

They just got beat and had $&!# luck

    No biggie

I would say this about the game against STL, and the first game against EDM, and even the game against WSH.

I don't think it's the case this game. We got clearly outplayed in the last 2 periods and deserved to lose. I didn't think effort was an issue until the last powerplay where we stopped skating.

Grapes, you're trolling right? I certainly hope so. I didn't quote em all but there was others saying similar? You all gotta be kidding, cuz if not :picard:

Actually Westside I liked his anger. Shows passion. Likely pissed right off at his team and a little at himself, as he came damn close to getting a piece of that with his blocker.

Honestly though, how anyone possibly can put any blame on Marky for that one is beyond me lmao.

Haha no I wasn’t kidding. I posted a few screenshots around page 10 to back myself up, check it out. If you disagree afterwards still that’s fine.

I would wager that Marky shares the same opinion as me given his reaction after the goal. He doesn’t usually smash his stick unless he’s mad at himself. It’s out of character for him to smash his stick being mad at the team.

  8. Not here to complain about the Myers signing, but he's had a stretch of really bad games in his own zone, and that's before the OT gaffe he had tonight.

It should be strictly Edler, Hughes, and maybe Stecher or Tanev in OT. Having Myers out there in OT makes no sense. There's no use for a 6'8 guy who isn't very agile in 3 on 3 situations. If the NHL was strictly a 3 on 3 league, Myers would not be in the league. That's not to say he's a bad player in the league now, it's to say he isn't a 3 on 3 player.

If we use Myers properly he could be incredibly effective. In fact I think his offensive value is significantly underrated.

Credit where credit is due too, that St. Louis PK was hyper aggressive and it worked.

A lot of credit should go to STL for that, but I don't think we were prepared for a hyper aggressive PK either way.

A hyper aggressive PK can actually work against you more often than not if you move the puck fast enough, which we are capable of doing. I think we may have gotten used to a more conservative PK like against the Kings, where puck movement along the perimeter isn't too hard, and weren't prepared for STL as a result.

Possibly, but I think he would've had to really book it to get there in time. Schenn wasn't skating that fast. Had Marky gone for it, you can bet he would've put on the jets and beat him to it.

Plus, even if Marky gets to it, he has to hammer it down past three Blues with very little time to prep his clear/pass. There's a case to be made for it, but I think it would've been very risky either way. In retrospect, probably still the safer move than taking a 3 on 0, but a hard-to-read situation that happens pretty uncommonly, so I don't blame him for not making that move. Not to mention he was burned on a rush to the puck in our last OT, so I can understand his hesitancy.

Yeah, I agree. I do think he was hesitant because of what happened vs. Getzlaf, which was honestly just a really nice move by Getzlaf more so than a bad decision.

I feel bad for him because if one hadn't happened the other probably wouldn't have either. I would guess that was why he smashed his stick.

@Grape you do know the Blues player picked up the puck at the blue line... right? Marky comes out to challenge that and it’s a straight pass across and an empty net.

Hey Stamkos, here's two screenshot of what I'm talking about

The first one is around the time Markstrom should've realize that the puck was coming to him. This is about a second after the shot by Vancouver is released. Schwartz is at the left side of the screen.

The second one is the moment Schwartz picked up the puck.

All Marky had to do was beat Schwartz and skate, I would say, a third of what Schwartz had to skate, to retrieve the puck.

Again, I'm not a fan of arguing against one of my favorite players, so I'll leave it at that and not continue to argue. I don't want to feel like an HF poster.

Just can't agree with you here. There's a pretty solid consensus that the puck was too far for Marky.

I'm not a fan of arguing against my own favorite players, so I'm only gonna post a screencapture for my own argument's sake soon and people can all decide for themselves if Marky was at fault.

Marky was clearly upset with himself after the play, so I'd wager that he would agree with me on this one.

    Lol. CDC logic :picard:

Watch the play again, and tell me how I'm wrong instead of just saying "CDC logic"

Myers' decision was awful, but Markstrom had a clear opportunity negate Myers' error and play a puck that was not far from him at all. A goalie has other responsibilities other than to make saves.

He's made decisions in two overtimes that have both turned out to be the wrong decision. I was stating that it was disappointing to see despite him being solid all around.
